I think you're doing something wrong. I have been steam juicing for about 7 years. This year I juiced 44 quarts of cherry juice which were done in 0ne day. If you are getting bits of fruit in the juice you must be pressing down the fruit. I also juice grapes, elderberries, apples and beets. Only the beets take more than 30 minutes to completely steam down. No seedding, no peeling, very little mess. I do it outside to keep the heat out of the house using my camp stove. One 3 gallon propane bottle provides all of my heat for the canning season normally canning 0- - 100 quarts of juice to be used in jelllies, drinking, etc. I completely disagree with your analysis and I have been canning and helping other people can for 60 years. The pulp goes into compost and to the chickens. Nothing gets wasted.

Thanks for watching the video. I honestly can't justify spending all that time. Steam canning fruit when I can just boil the fruit for 20 minutes and can it up and I'm not spending hours on the stove wasting gas. I've been canning juice for. I don't even know how many years and I was told that this steam canning was going to be the best thing ever and honestly I don't believe it is. I get way better results boiling the fruit and water straining it and it's a lot less hassle and a lot less work at the end of the day which is what matters because I don't want to spend my life refilling the bottom part of the steamer with water every 40 minutes

After reading most of the comments on this video, I agree with the seasoned canners on the comments. One of them said that certain fruits do not juice as fast and it depends on the ripeness of the fruit. There are a high percentage of people in your comment section that love their juicer extractors to make juice from elderberries, apples and grapes. Maybe there is a difference in the quality of the steamer extractors that one can purchase. I am glad I watched your video, because there is a lot of comments from people who have been using their steamer extractors for years with no problems. I agree with other comments, I’ve used this steam juicer for years, remember you are getting pure juice not watered down juice, it’s a concentrate. Then the steam issue you are having is because you are boiling the water too high of temperature. Mine never seeps over. The last thing is you get a pulp of fruit you can use that still retains all its flavor to make jams, puddings, sauces, pies. Maybe look on KZbin to see how other people use it. Like I said, I grew up using this type of steam juicer and it is brilliant.
@zenophryk9419 Жыл бұрын
I watched a bunch of video's and in a lot of the cases, the amount of juice being extracted was more than the amount of fruit being put in. Which makes sense since the steam really has no where to go but to condense back into water and end up in the juice collection section, therefore watering down the juice. It's going to be the opposite of a concentrate, since a concentrated juice would have less water in it that it does naturally . And you can't boil water at too high a temperature. the water boils at 212 deg F so it's kind of a self limiting process. Sure, you can have a slow or rolling boil, which is really just an indication that the entire water volume is getting to the same temp. but if the water were to get higher than 212, at standard sea level, it would no longer be liquid. She may have overfilled the water level, certainly possible. So while I think this type of juicer may be good for certain things, it certainly won't work for making jellies very efficiently like I was hoping.

I have watched other steam juicer videos and have seen that some people use frozen fruit which extracts the juice faster. I’m not sure if that will help you but it is worth a shot. Also, I agree with the comments that this is concentrated and not premixed like the other method. I’m going to see if I can use a makeshift method I saw and make it work. If you need distilled water you can use this to distill water at least. Flip your cover over and add ice before you start heating it up and the distilled water will condense faster (maybe that’s why the frozen fruit also goes quicker). Good luck! Happy juicing!

The juice is better than any that you can buy. It's also great for plums, too. My suggestion is to buy the juicer with the largest capacity water pot. I use a NorPro and a Mehu Liisa and the Norpro is better because the water pan is significantly larger. It rarely takes me longer to a load than 30min. The directions for the ML tell you to turn the heat down after the steam begins to come out of the top. Since you leave the burner on high, the water boils out. Always read the directions.

Excellent info and honesty. I've have a question. Wouldn't one be also getting the water that's in the bottom into any juices? It steams and then falls. I've watched a few doing apples and when they're done, it's not as if the apples in the top are dry, therefore there is still lots of juice there. We know peaches are juicy, but with you only getting that much in a quart, wasn't most of that the water that was put into the bottom and steaming? P.S.--I have done juicing the old way and of course that obeliterates the fruit to really bust up the cells holding the water. For clear jelly you wouldn't press but if you didn't care, you press the fruit to get more juice. Question then is..........am I not correct that with this juicer, you're really not getting much of the actual fruit juice? I was debating on this steam juicer but couldn't wrap my head around just ending up with the juice of the fruit and not alot of added water.

That’s exactly my question as well, I’d like it for rose pedals to make rose water, which is essence and a water but to extract juice from fruit I could be wrong but I think it would be mostly water?
@angelasscrappykitchen3 ай бұрын
@@BrattyPatriot no so the way that it is the middle part is a solid bottom and that's where the hose comes out of where you get the juice. So the water that's boiling is at the very bottom and the very tippy top is essentially. It looks like a strainer so as the steam rises it essentially makes the fruit sweat and then that juice drips down into the middle section where the hoses. But honestly if I wanted to make juice That is super concentrated like that. I would just run it through a cold pressed juicer can it and then be done with it instead of messing with the steamer?. Yes I would have to bring the juice up to temperature to can it but it would be way faster and a fraction of the time that this takes

I have the same model steam juicer you do and I have the exact same problems. I also get liquid pooling on top of the lid. I think there are some things that can be done to fix the problems. I put a filter paper or piece of cheese cloth in the steamer basket. I think the lid needs to be replaced all together---honestly, the lid handle alone is so stupid. I think the whole in the lid for "extra steam" is the biggest problem with the pot. If the "extra steam" weren't escaping then we wouldn't have to keep refilling the pot. I was considering whether a gasket around the hose hole in the bottom pan would help prevent the water from spilling out. In general, I think for this particular brand of of pot, the steam is not kept in properly to sweat the fruit. My juice from this steam juicer comes out watery.

Theres definitely something going wrong here. 1. what ever is on the top part, should be loose enough for steam to penetrate, for example redcurrants as they are, are loose enoung, you dont press them down. 2. you fill the top part ALL the way, as much as you can but still can close the lid. I did redcurrant juice for wine yesterday and there were no particles, around 3.5 - 4 litres of juice from 5-6kg of redcurrants. All redcurrants fit to one cycle, which took about 45 minutes. The juice that comes out is quite concentrated even. Either the fruit has low moisture or there is something else wrong here.

I did exactly what the instructions said and what every KZbin video says....you get steamed juice, but I honestly can't justify the hours spent doing that method and paying for the electric bill because it takes so long, when I get 32 Litres of juice in 20min...lol Thanks for watching!!

I really appreciate your video/opinion, but there are many more uses of a steam juicer then just making juice. I just received one, not used it yet; but now that I have one (the reason I looked on YT and found your video) I have so many ideas on what to use it for.

OK then the only thing left is that your stove is crappy. Maybe you have those little tiny 5000 BTU gas burners. Don’t use the center burner if it is the lowest BTU Unless you pay good dollars for your stove you’re better off cooking outside on a camp stove. Just pay the extra $3000 and get the good one. You won’t regret it as for the machine there excellent it’s never taken over 20 25 minutes for me. I do cut the beats and Asian pears in half.

Does the quality of the outcome in terms of taste and purity differ?
@angelasscrappykitchen2 жыл бұрын
In my experience I have found that yes the juice is more concentrated. But when you factor in the length of time that it takes the amount of energy for gas that I'm paying for in order to get the juice does not benefit doing it this way. The taste, however at the end of the day does not differ either between doing it this way and doing it the other way that I always have done it

Why not just use a regular juicer? This method seems less efficient than just using a masticating juicer.

I abolutely agree with you. This is a very slow method. Waste (time) and energy. Work with soft fruits maybe. I tried with apple. After one and half hour I got 7,5 dl of juice and I burned lot gas with my cook stove. So I finished that. Best way to chop fruits and press with grape presser. Same time but without energy (electricity/gas).

Perhaps your fruit was still a bit young. Using fruit that's extra juicy and mature produces far better quality and quantities of juice than crisp fruit.

@denisdyck8800 Жыл бұрын
@@maaritsteinwedel4351 I suspect that she is overfilling it with fruit. For instance, we get about 2.5 litres of concentrated crabapple juice in the first 45 min and if we want to leave it more we get another 1-1.5 litres in the next 45 min. This technique of producing juice has been loved for decades for a reason...
@heherttu10 ай бұрын
@@maaritsteinwedel4351 I agree. I have watched these being used since I was a toddler by my grandma (Mehu-Maija), and now own my own (Mehu-Liisa). Definitely something odd going on. Perhaps the "fruit" didn't have a lot of moisture and she forgot to add water for the steam to extract the juice and flavor? Maybe her fruit pieces were too large.

Ones opinion is not that of others. If you don't have the time to make juice, then do it your other way! Your video is not very helpful, except I hear criticism only. You are not using it correctly. Make sure the hose is pointed down. Here is another video you may want to look into! She got far more juice than you are leading onto. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rl64i4aOpcZ8mK8
