Pipe organs should be used in this sort of music more often, they add SO much gravitas. They're also the original synth... why not use it? How many people who listen to this type of music would say that they listen to organ music? However, here we are listening to organ music. Organs, in their many forms as classical organs such as what we see here, theatre organs like the Wurlitzer at Blackpool Tower Ballroom, and electronic instruments such as Hammonds etc fit into almost any genre of music, and have proven that over the past 100+ years. The organ is not just for use at church or for funerals, it is a diverse instrument that is full of potential, musically, expressively and emotionally. It needs more chances like this one.

Trance music? Pretty good. Bonobo? Even better. Bonobo letting Anna Lapwood go all out with an organ? Absolutely euphoric. This track was already a banger experience, but getting hit full force with a pipe organ at near full throttle? Absolutely blows you out of the water. (Its worth mentioning that until recently during a show with AURORA, this cocnert was the first time she was allowed to run the pipes at near 100% volume. Also worth mentioning that this was a spur of the moment thing. Anna was practicing when someone from Bonobo's team heard her and they decided that it was going to be part of the show. It was not planned in advance before the show. I also love how during the final measure, the lights matched the Organ's intensity. )

Organs were designed to replace a whole orchestra and choir. They are the single greatest feat of musical engineering of their time and we’ve never quite again built anything to this scale in the physical world; we have digital instruments of similar size, but everything on an organ of this kind is a physical instrument powered by air. I love these instruments so much. They are sadly slowly dying out. Being thrown away and scrapped.
@blahfasel20002 жыл бұрын
Well, sort of. The organ in its current form is only about 20 years old, although some of the pipes are 150 years old. First it was extensively rebuilt and modified (eg. changing the voicing of existing stops, adding 35 additional stops, all the inner workings were completely replaced, etc.) in 1924 and 1933. In 1970 some more changes were made. By 2000 the organ had deteriorated to the point of basically becoming unplayable. Then from 2002 to 2004 another full rebuild was done. This last rebuild tried to keep the sound mostly the same, but improved the inner workings, probably for the first time in its history bringing the wind supply to a level where the organ could really be fully used.

Its mesmerising emotionally draining with awe and delight!......ive followed stevens music creations with awe from early boiler room days. This has me in tears from the start to full blown breathless through out. I would love to have been there live.......what a collaboration, the emotions through the hall must of been something else

Anna Lapwood is the greatest thing to happen to the Organ since Zimmer's score for Interstellar. SHE.IS.A.HERO!

This is phenomenal. It’s great to see such an old and complex instrument performed expertly by Lapwood in a contemporary context.

I think a full pipe organ in a music hall is the singly most powerful and impactful and emotional instrument ever created. Doesn't matter how loud you turn up the speakers to play synth bass music, it won't feel more powerful than a pipe organ. I can only imagine what it was like to be in that room for this performance.

I'm typically not an electronic music kind of person, typically rock/metal some symphonic stuff. This gave me chills, it is soo good. The many dimensions and layers to it all, mind blowing. This needs to be a thing, they need her on the next album, or just re-record the song with the organ. Phenomenal!

I have always been a HUGE fan of Organs mixed with current music, have been so for years so TO SEE THIS I am SO happy for it. I really hope more things like this happen because it really shows that the 'Old' never really goes out of style. The lighting is really great here too in ALL aspects. Kudos to whoever designed it.

Good for the composers: the alternation between acoustic and digital! The silences of the organ then its support by looped chords, the progressive effects to go towards a final in crescendo... Wow! And when she's not playing, Anna counts the bars, her whole body is connected to the crowd, the organ, the musicians... Finally! The organ has spoken! On the last note, with the cromhorns, he says: "WELCOME!" Thank you especially to Anna for having undertaken this wonderful adventure: allowing all young people to appreciate the extraordinary potential of these instruments which support the past, participate in the present and prepare for the future... And a big congratulations to Bonobo. Creative and responsive! Thank you so much!

Came here from TikTok because I needed to see the whole thing. I have always loved the fusion of club and classical (I even managed to snag tickets for a Club Classical gig in Brixton a couple of decades ago, which was awesome), and this is why. Just the absolute emotional pull of the music and instruments taking us wherever, whenever.
