The last 150 feet were being reconstructed and not well reinforced. Rest of pier was fine. Waves frankly were not all that big. The video of collapse doesn’t show a big wave hitting it. It just sort of leaned over and slid into water gently.

As long as the structure generated public income with the accompanying tax dollars, yes, it's in the community's best interest to maintain the wharf.
