By no means am I an expert in watches or have great knowledge of this industry , what I am is a person who loves learning about things that interest me, thanks to people like Nico, and others I have learned quite a bit about Rolex, AP, Patek and other brands never heard of. What I find even more interesting is I am now looking for what people are wearing in public and other videos and identifying them, its a hobby now. Shinola is really popular in the greater Detroit area (and you probably hear about it a lot since the Detroit area is as big as an EU country). They employ something like 400 people in Detroit itself, including a hotel, and that is something the community really appreciates since Detroit struggled so much in the recent recession. Yes, they are owned by Fossil and thus are technically a fashion brand, however I love my Runwell and it is a huge regional conversation starter. No matter where I am in the US, a Shinola wearer is usually someone from close to where I am from and the watch often has some sentimental value. Furthermore, they are largely Swiss-parts-based quartz movements (though that might be mostly marketing) assembled in Detroit, featuring screw-down crowns and sapphire crystals. They are overpriced, but REALLY quality and stylish. I think they are the most distinctly American looking watches right now with their vintage railroad clock look. My Runwell is nothing I would have bought for myself as a watch guy, but it puts to SHAME most other dress watches I would buy for myself at this point, especially with the personal connection. They also released a line of Automatic watches this year, but I don't know enough about them. Another thing that is kind of interesting is that they make HUGE watches. They make a bunch of case sizes over 40mm, up to 48. The 41 is a big dress watch on me, but I have a smaller wrist. I imagine there are some big dudes that really appreciate the 48.

I went to a watch boutique here in KOP (Pennsylvania) and I walked through an area where they had a hublot display and I spoke with one of the reps there and said "how can you work for them when their watches suck?" i have a shinola runwell moonphase and like it a lot as my main dress watch. not the fanciest or most expensive but it was a gift from my brother for being his best man so it has a lot of sentimental value. he got the shinola because he moved up to detroit after college for work so was looking for something local. certainly no god tier gshock but i like it. and i have a couple gshocks so covered there too.

Shinola is what the US govt calls a US Assembled Brand, to be a "Made in the USA" watch under US law 100% of all parts and labor must be from the US (raw materials can be from other countries). There is exactly 1 company that meets those requirements. There are several assembled in the US brands. And Shinola watches from what I hear are a good value for the price. But also they buy movements from several places, including Switzeland, Japan, and China. They assemble them in Detroit, and some celebs like the rapper Common pushes them bc the company employs nearly 500 watch assemblers they trained from some of the poorest areas of Detroit. They also hire small time unknown artists to help with the designs. Bill Clinton is very publicly a fanboy of the brand and claims to own 14 of them, and back in 2016 Obama gave one as a gift to British PM David Cameron on a official state visit. The company Shinola has been around since the 1800s, in the leather business (only thing they make in house are the leather straps), but only started watches in 2011

Out of any hublot that one is probably the only one thats valuable. Its an ode to their og sports watch that really made it okay to have a luxury watch with a rubber strap.
