He is right. The country heavily relies on remittances as booster to growth by fueling consumption. And what are these goods in consumption? These are mainly imported goods. Once remittance is down, there is no Manufacturing sector to take on the decline in income. Everything is short term. If you plan long term you will be village chastised as an overthinker. I think it is in the culture. Now that he gave the very uncomfortable truth, what is the action plan to solve this fundamental weakness of the Philippines.... it should be a long term plan.... 30 years.

The culture of OFW’s has to end. Stay and improve Philippines!
@JLCruise1 Жыл бұрын
@chrisk7118 Жыл бұрын
@@JLCruise1 No you just need to learn skills to make money with a business in Philippines.

@@chrisk7118 kung ganun lang sana gawin yun, eh di sana wala na talagang aalis. Madaling sabihin, mahirap gawin. You need to be realistic sir, hindi lahat ng tao may skill sa pagnenegosyo. Meron talagang tao na mas magaling sila as an employee o worker. At hindi lang yan applicable sa mga Pilipino.

@ Sir Stephen thank you once again Sir for giving your thoughts on our Philippine economy. You're on point, when you said that most children of these farmers are OFWs. If I were in their position, I would not want my children to be farmers too. What is even the incentive? Why would I want my kids to have a hard life like I did? Until that will change, then I would as much send my kids to school , have them educated so they can have a better chance in life.

This man is the most articulate and informed voice in the Philippines economic landscape. Unfortunately, his logical assault on the purposefully inept and corrupt is a threat. When an economic system is leaned-out it removes waste and encourages oversight. Government waste and lack of oversight make a lot of people rich in the Philippines. In each of his interviews I see an uncomfortable push-back from the media interviewer. Feels as if he's speaking the 'verboten'.
@salemtherealtor4288 Жыл бұрын
Yes! Policy. That's the single word why agriculture sector is crippling. Forget the talks about energy... we still have labor, land and capital... we are stuck at the policy level (old, new) to further our agri production. Policy is the cure-all to the agricultural woes. Salamat Steve.

Watching the crypto market's rollercoaster ride, it's clear how quickly fortunes can change. The recent misinformation incident is a stark reminder of the market's sensitivity to external influences. It's a world where strategic, informed trading is not just a choice, but a necessity. Remember, in the realm of crypto, caution is as valuable as ambition. Stay sharp, stay diversified, and let's ride the waves of this unpredictable market together... At the heart of this evolution is Saylor Brian, whose deep understanding of both cryptocurrency and traditional trading has been instrumental. His holistic approach to investment and commitment to staying abreast of market trends make him an invaluable ally in navigating this new era in cryptocurrency investment...

Just a correction, South Korea and Japan are not food self-sufficient, they're. Japan imports around 60% of its foodstuffs, and South Korea is even worse--having the worse food self-sufficiency of all OECD nations which includes Japan. The Philippines in contrast imports 25-30% of its food needs. We may not be self-sufficient, but we're nowhere near as worse-off as Japan and South Korea. Of course there are also other things to consider than hard numbers alone, but generally, we're better off than the Japanese and South Koreans when it comes to food self-sufficiency. Nevertheless, we should do something about our food production now. Our food prices, taking into account ppp, are horribly high even in comparison to high-income countries like the UK, Japan, South Korea, etc. That's pretty insane.

Only a fraction of left to buy cheap and inferior trucks, etc. congress investigated this female responsible for buying trucks she sold to the government. It’s o you tube and when congress asked the government staff, directors, etc., they all have amnesia. I think congress should create a legislation to fire, charge and if found guilty, jail these people who are not doing their jobs, but contributing to the nation destruction not nation building. One director was busted by a congressman when it was openly report that he goes to Korea often not for governmental meetings but to be with his Korean wife! He should be fired, charged, and fined and jailed.

Lol. Japan and Korea are not agri sufficient countries, dunno where he get that info. They import much of their foodstuffs, as much as 60% for Japan. While they are self sufficient for their needs of rice, they consume way less than us, like they consume almost half than we do.
