A number of Gold Star families spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Wednesday, a day devoted to foreign policy and national security.
Christy Shamblin, Cherly Jules, and Herman and Alicia Lopez remembered their family members who died while serving in Afghanistan. They criticized President Joe Biden for the 2021 withdrawal of forces from that country, and for how he interacted with them when the bodies of their loved ones returned to U.S. soil. Herman Lopez then read the names of the 13 service members who died in an attack outside the Kabul airport.
Sen. J.D. Vance, named as former President Donald Trump's running mate Monday, will also give his first address as the vice presidential nominee on Wednesday. Trump will address the convention Thursday.
