It seems like Republicans might go on the offensive with this story? The NYT published a lengthy account of what happened including a timeline and it looked to me like she perpetrated a shakedown. I say this because she waited four days, acc. to the NYT, to go to the hospital and ask for a rape examination. This is what triggered the police investigation. Why would someone wait four days if they thought they had been drugged and raped? Was she laying the groundwork to possibly come back later on him? Years later, after Hegseth has become a celebrity on FOX and is presumably making the big bucks, she contacts him with a threat to go public with the police report. Why would she do this? They had had no contact since that night at the hotel. It could only be because she was hoping he would offer her hush money! This is predatory. It's actually blackmail and there are laws against this.

I went through something similar, on a local level, back in 2008. I lost a 23 year career and served 22 days in jail, over a female co-worker accusing me of sexual harassment and simple assault. I had no legal counsel and was given 5 minutes to discuss with my older brother and decide whether or not to accept a plea deal. I just wanted to put this behind me and so did plead no contest to the simple assault. After one year of unsupervised probation, the other charge was dismissed. This "lady" also filed a civil suit and that was settled out of court for $58,000.00. I spent the next 5 years, rebuilding my reputation. I was able to obtain employment in another agency, where I could continue to pay into the same retirement system. So........my life was not ruined. I was able to retire with full benefits. Mere accusations can, and do, ruin lives every day.

Why? when a woman sleeps with a married man, they always say go after the husband only. That he is the only one that owes loyalty, the other person does not. The only explanations I can think of would be: 1. He li ed about not remembering that conversation because it was embarrassing to him (unlikely since he would know she would be telling them what was said) 2) He was at peak drunkeness by the pool and had sobered up a bit by the time they got to the room (I don't recall where in the timeline that convo happened, nor if he continued drinking after that) I agree, that detail is puzzling.
