Vice President Kamala Harris argued for reproductive rights Thursday on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, an evening focused on the future as Kamala Harris formally accepts her party’s nomination for president.
Harris said her opponent, former President Donald Trump, “hand-picked” justices of the U.S. Supreme Court to take away reproductive freedom. Harris also warned of Republican-led efforts to further restrict abortion access.
“One must ask: Why exactly is it that they don’t trust women? Well, we trust women,” she said. “And when Congress passes a bill to restore reproductive freedom, as president of the United States, I will proudly sign it into law.”
Kamala Harris’ speech is her first official chance to offer her vision for the country to voters. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz formally accepted the vice presidential nomination the day before.
