Sorry man but there is no rivalry. Maybe with the media and fans but that's as far as it goes. For example you could see the intensity back in the day with Crosby and Ovechkin as a rivalry. You don't see it at all with these two players, especially Matthews. His focus is on his team and winning. Chanting " Laine's better" meant nothing to Matthews. Where when Jets fans chanted "Crosby's better" you could tell it got under Ovie's skin. It takes the players to make it a rivalry and there is none with these two.

Haha nope, not at all. My teams are the Oilers and Islanders. Been that way for a long long time. Definitely challenging teams to cheer for but they are my teams. I am just pointing what I see is all. No disrespect to Laine and I am not trying to imply that Matthews is better. I am just saying they are different players with completely different situations. Laine is a winger and joins a team that already has leadership and a potential franchise player in Scheifele. The Jets are solid in most areas of their team so it is an easier adjustment for Laine. Where Matthews is the face of the franchise and expected to come in and save the team from losing. The Leafs are young, quite inexperienced and the pressure is huge on Matthews compared to Laine. As well, Matthews isn't really buying into a rivalry with Laine so it seems. He seems more mature and focused on being apart of getting the Leafs winning. I am definitely not a Leafs fan though. I don't dislike the Jets either but my teams are mentioned above. The Jets have one heck of a future ahead I will say. I just personally do not see a rivalry with these two players aside from being drafted 1st and 2nd. That's just my opinion though. Cheers!

If you were a Winnipeg or Toronto fan at this time, there was so much hate towards each other it was insane. This was I think Winnipeg's fourth game of the season or something like that. The buildup to this game was absolutely nuts and began on the day these two were drafted. The game itself a literal rollercoaster. Hollywood couldn't write the rest of the script after Toronto took that comfy lead. Laine getting his first of the night, obviously loosening up a bit. Tying the game in the dying seconds was ridiculous and they could've lost in OT and I think all Jet's fans would've felt better about that. No. They put him out there AGAINST MATTHEWS and after 34 hits a brick wall in Hutchinson, Laine takes a pass from ol' Buff and tops off his hat trick with the game winner. Looking back now I can confidently say Toronto won the war lol, there is absolutely no question. Laine's time in Winnipeg was fun. Wish it lasted a little longer and things were different but here's to wishing him a great career!
