I really prefer the Mastering Assistant in Ozone 9. I found that, for me, MA in O9 simply balances the frequency and sets the limiter where you tell it to (low, mid, or high intensity). But O10 throws all the new modules into it and is more like a HYPE Assistant. Especially if you keep the Impact module on. Just sounds harsh and crunchy to me. I compared the same song in both O9 and O10 mastering assistants and found that if I turn off Impact and Imager then it's very close to what O9 suggests...but not exact. The EQ curves are similar, but the EQ curve in O10 is taking into account the fact that Stabilizer is also doing some work. I don't know...I liked using the MA in O9 to give me a good frequency balance, and then I would finalize that with a Pink Noise setting in the Match EQ before going into the limiter, where I would set the level myself. I feel like O10 MA is just over-cooking too much and that's dangerous because then a lot of people will start releasing music online using this. We don't need MORE hype, rather we need LESS in our masters. I wish they somehow incorporated a Legacy option in the O10 MA. Thankfully I can still use O9.

Also prefer using the interface stand-alone and not having to use it as a plug-in within a DAW. Also, anyone else think the track he's using in this vid has too much saturation on it to begin with? Literally everything is distorting
@anthonyh1298 Жыл бұрын
@wtfaulkner yep sounds like someone went heavy on a tape saturator. Doesn't do much for the track imo, and there's nothing to be done about it at the mastering stage 🤷🏻♂️ rolling off the bottom end did help a lot

Thanks Streaky. I was thinking of buying this mastering software, but I didn't realize how Nerdy it was to use. Your demonstration has given me second thoughts about purchasing it. As a singer-songwriter and a person on a limited budget, I am always looking for software that is affordable and easy to use. I am sure I could master this Mastering software, but I think I will look around more before deciding to purchase this software. There are a lot of these Mastering software programs out there. In the past I have used a combination of Protools plugins and then Audacity's free software to "master" my songs.

Just do it. It's fine. If professional mastering engineers have 0.1 as a ceiling WITHOUT truePeak limiting, you can have 0.2 as a ceiling and don't have to worry (especially if you decide to use truePeak limiting instead of conventional limiting)

Export so your brain goes into mastering mode you can always go back and bounce another mix if you really need to…but try and be disciplined to finish the mix and move to the next step
