Former President of the Republic, Leonel Fernández, said on Tuesday that he is “carefully” analyzing the tax reform project presented by the government of President Luis Abinader.
“I am carefully studying the proposal for changes in the tax regime of the current government,” Fernández posted on his X account.
In addition, he said that “we will establish a responsible and well-founded position before the country in due time.”
The tax reform proposal presented by President Luis Abinader seeks to raise funds to reduce public debt, combat tax evasion and avoidance, eliminate exemptions and increase the minimum wage of the public sector, among other points.
In this regard, the Minister of Finance, José Manuel "Jochi" Vicente, detailed the scope of the "necessary" tax reform and assured that the Government has spoken with all economic sectors of the country before presenting the reform, which was submitted this afternoon to the National Congress, in which the ruling party has an absolute majority.
