Just found your channel and this is brilliant! “Assumer” makes sense as the lesser used definition of the word in English eg “I assume responsibility” - I’m sure it came from the french language to begin with!

Hello, Alicia!! I hope you're doing well. It's been an immense pleasure to see you again and learn from your lessons. They're surely very useful for both English and French learners. This topic of "false friends" is very important to explain, as it can be so tricky and mislead us into making a lot of mistakes. You've done a wonderful job as always. We're so lucky to have you!! Thank you so much, Alicia!!! 👍😊♥️

Great topic! En anglais, la personne désignée responsable de quoi que ce soit est "designated" (comme, par exemple, the "designated survivor" who becomes president if the top several people in the chain of command are incapacitated).

That's a great list 👍About half of them I didn't know (like faculté and compréhensif). Except for actuellement, éventuellement and compréhensif, a lot of the French meanings do correspond with an English definition of the word, just not the first or most common meaning, eg assumer. Designer is also similar to designate and concevoir to conceive. One word a lot of us anglophones find surprising is "responsable".
