2:10 It's not dangerous to turn left in Vancouver, there's just a lot of Vancouver drivers making dangerous left turns. Pull into the intersection plotting your route through it, position your vehicle for the best view of oncoming traffic, pay attention to the light and both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and finally don't go unless you're certain it's clear. There's a few steps but for anyone holding a valid driver's license, they should be relatively simple to follow.

The Government needs to start pulling Taxi company licenses - too many of these guys are playing with the lives of others. Just tonight alone, I was stopped at a red light and two Black Top cabs barely even slowed down and blew right through the red light, right after each other. We started suspending trucking companies for the incompetent drivers they hire, it's time we started to do the same with Taxi companies. And make sure we suspend the license of the driver as well to shut down their Uber side hustle.

In my state, it is specifically illegal to go through a parking lot if you are doing so to avoid an intersection. It's a very strange and specific law, but that weird accident at 3:59 (the white car cuts through a gas station parking lot in a road rage incident) is why they made it illegal. You can do it if you stop your car or if you get out of your car, but you can't just shoot through a parking lot and fly onto the street at the other side of the parking lot.

When you're behind someone like that, don't even look to your left. There's absolutely no reason to look because when that guy is in front of you, you can't go!!! I'm new to BC and... yeah... Where I come from, people do regularly run red arrows for left turns. I've seen the aftermath of in-town crashes with flipped vehicles. But I had to come to BC to nearly get T-boned by someone running a red light as I has a green arrow. Twice at the same intersection near my home. Generally, if I find the person behind me seems dangerous, I've just started putting on my emergency lights and drive the speed limit so they pass me. Works 10/10. I don't want to alarm any other drivers, but when that driver is half a car length behind you entering a freeway and you're already going over the limit, or when they nearly rear ended you while texting, it feels like the safer option.

Here in the Netherlands we've had that rule for 40+ years and it works just fine. The difference is here you have to get a driving license before you're allowed to drive, and can only get it from a licensed driving instructor. We don't use a system of 'provisional' no-license driving or unprofessional driving lessons from mom&dad.

For the second clip of the driver turning left at the traffic light at Metropolis at Metrotown, the driver may not have done anything wrong as the green left turn signal might have given him the right of way. So he might have seen the ped too late. I see pedestrians ignoring the red light all the time at Metropolis.

The bottom line is that the government and ICBC aren't doing enough to keep our roads safe anymore. The amount of craziness that has graced our streets is completely out of hand. Definitely a lot of bad drivers out there but the fine for distracted driving needs to be extremely severe because clearly the current penalties aren't enough. If you get caught it should be an automatic suspension with a huge fine. If you make the fine $10k how many people do you think we'll see playing on their phones?

Taxi drivers in vam😅are the worst. 4 or 5 years ago I had an argument with a taxi driver talking about how uber and lyft was coming to Vancouver. That taxi driver was so mad. He was adamant that it'll never happen.

Agreed. It's not to say that all taxi drivers are terrible (I've had some lovely ones in the city), but a lot of them should pick another vocation, and the legit drivers should come down HARD on them for tarnishing their reputation.

Scooters! Just making the rules up as they go along, they can come out of absolutely anywhere, day or night, and be going faster than the rest of the traffic. They are more difficult to see than a bicycle, there’s less body movement to catch your eye, and the rider is just standing upright like someone walking, but covering ground at automotive speeds.

Too many morons on scooters unfortunately. Weaving in places they shouldn't be, riding without a headset, going waaaaaay to fast on such a vehicle with small wheels, (25 km/h is the legal maximum in BC) etc... I love my scooter but idiots like the one in 1:55 make me think we could see them just getting banned after the pilot is done in 2028. You can really mangle yourself up riding a scooter like that.

The scooter thing really irks me. Locally, still in BC, I see too many scooter drivers driving like bikes. ICBC says to consult with local police for routes prior to driving. Then, because you have a plate, take the lane like a motorcycle. 2:34 cold have been avoided by taking the lane, but resulted in road rage because.... Vancouver people.

IN NORTH VANCOUVER, there are several blocks of 1st that have a middle turning lane framed by yellow lines on each side. At each end of the stretch, one line becomes a double and it's a left turn lane. People are pretty good with it. So I'm riding my motor scooter past one end when two women dash out from the right curb, as if I'm of no consequence. I swerve a U around them, *perhaps* catching a couple of feet of that double line - and a policeman, cherry-picking intersection violations, flags me over. "You know you crossed a double line back there." "Better than maybe hitting one of the jaywalkers, I figured." In fact, their dangerous behaviour is ignored! "You know you need a motorbike license for one of those," as if everybody riding a 140cc scoot is an idiot. "Uh-huh," I say, getting out my license. "If your paperwork's in order, I'll just give you a warning." It was, and he did. I FINALLY gave up riding one rainy day when a woman ran out from behind a stopped truck as I headed downhill. I was going to do a slow stop to see why it had halted when she darted out. I nailed the brakes, and maybe there was diesel on the asphalt, I don't know. Busted hell out of the bike and got carried off to the ER with cracked ribs.

Any new drivers watching this. Never turn left if there’s a line of cars turning the opposite way and you can’t see. Even it seems clear it’s not worth saving a few seconds. If you are first in line just wait for the light to turn red not yellow! Then slowly make your turn. Who cares if it slightly annoys the drivers behind you. If it does so they’re shit drivers and you’ll never see them again anyways
