@@Lou-yf1jo Bob's DVD has DRM which will cause the DVD to explode after a certain amount of time, Jim's DVD doesn't. Bob's DVD costed 60 dollars for a film that had the budget of 4 dollars. Jim's DVD has 10 films and it only cost 6 dollars. Bob's DVD has no actual subtitles, Jim's DVD has every language that you could think of as a subtitle. (Even if it isn't perfect)

I had quite a few pirated DVDs of Disney movies and other movies my family would give me (who the hell knows where they got them) during the 2000s. The picture and sound quality were pretty much the exact same as authentic releases so Jim must've bought a DVD from a crack dealer or something.

It's because DVDs are digital, so if it is ripped from an original disc, then (unless the disc is downsampled, possibly due to dual layer to single layer conversion), then the images and sound are exactly the same, pixel for pixel. This is one of the reasons why people in the music industry were originally worried about digital audio, it makes pirated copies effectively perfect.
