Syngman Rhee, Park Chung-hee, and Chun Doo-hwan killed and tortured hundreds of thousands of people under martial law. There are many people who went missing and couldn't find their bodies. I came to understand a little more about what happened to my grandmother's generation in the history books. The fear was engraved on my heart. Its an attempted coup. No one is using those words yet, but thats obviously whats happening. The leader of the country lost in a recent landslide election and has less than a 20% approval rating. He declared martial law for no valid reason. In response the parliament met in an emergency meeting (overcoming the state security forces sent there to stop them) and unanimously voted to condemn the declaration of martial law. The coup now totally lacks legitimacy. Since thus was uploaded the president has rescinded the martial law order.

President declared martial law late at night when most of parliament had already gone home, (which is basically an attempted coup) that gives him total control of media, of the public, of everything… national assembly voting was the only thing that could end martial law, population was not having it and went to the streets to protest, national assembly members were summoned and headed to parliament to vote but when they got there the military was already there blocking the entrance (that’s the clash in the videos, some members even live streamed themselves jumping of the gates to get in), population doesn’t back off, national assembly members manage to get past the military and enter the building, they vote unanimously to lift martial law, martial law is lifted. Everything in a span of 6 hours.

From an article I saw, it was in response to the opposition controlled legislature passing bills that undermined the presidents agenda. He didn't like laws passing, so he stopped the ability for them to pass anymore. He also got the police to block the entrance to the natinal assembly because if a majority of parliament vote to end martial law, it can end.
