What until the first time you run out of brakes on a bike. Either because you broke too late or some other reason, like slippery surface. It will amazing you how well you can dance! Especially if you can't simply get off the brakes.

This is my first comment. While a watcher and rider for 58 years, and I’ve seen great videos, yours is perhaps the most clearly demonstrated. As a teacher, coach, and instructor in several disciplines, I admire your clarity. My own thoughts are more braaaaakkkkkkaaakkkeeekkeee. Minute changes to pressure. I will never say brake, brakes, brake.... to myself, but I appreciate the simplicity and it enforces maintaining pressure, adjusting pressure until you see your escape. I have forwarded this to several experienced riders I know. Only they can really appreciate it. That said, it will help intermediate riders a lot.

4 months ago when I first got a bike, I was scared of cornering, had bad body position, didn't make use of counter steering and rode with the worst skills ever putting mine and everyone's life in danger. Fast fwd 4 months, I just did a 1800mile round trip from MD to Chicago n back via backroads, freeways, highways, twisties and I owe motojitsu for all the skills that I learned over the past 4 months and ofcourse regular practice. I've never had confidence around bends on tarmac. I thought perhaps it is because I first learnt to ride off road. But this video was really good, I'm that guy who tries to slow down and come completely off the brakes before I lean the bike. No wonder I've struggled into and out of corners and never had any confidence nor did I ever felt like I knew what I was doing. Can't wait to practise this, the bit where you talked about your braking column and that yours includes the first half of the turn was really good info. I mean it was all good but that bit will help me a lot and braking till you can see the exit. Damn, that is so clear, thanks very much. So well explained. Good teachers is able to get their students to understand them and you do that.

Slow, select gear, lean n ride it through the bend is how I was taught. It’s like launching into the unknown n I too lacked corner confidence. I know people who do it at pace but it’s hit n miss. Ya might be lucky now get a clear run or the bend may not tighten up on ya. This had done so much for my confidence. Much more in control

You have SO much experience, you are working on your craft constantly, and you still use the break when entering a corner. I like the sensible approach and, as new rider, I follow that approach to. Every other week I will go on Sunday tours with a team of bikers who are a lot more experienced than I am (the guy who plans the routes has been riding for over 40 years). They are good riders, not doing stupid stuff, yet I NEVER see their brake lights go on. I can only conclude that they choose to "hope that the bike will slow down enough by rolling off the throttle" and just lean more, because I cannot reach them. Which means they do not slow down that much. I have always wandered (still do) how they do it, but I choose not to experiment too much on the twisties. I have narrowed my chicken strips considerably, but that is more due to the experience I am gaining, than winging it and hoping for a positive outcome. I think I am right in doing that... public roads do not usually give you second chances.

Here in Belgium they still learn you to do all the braking before the turn. Then I did follow the couse from Champ School. Focus, 100 points of grip, Radius = MPH and of couse umbrella of direction, all were an eye opener for me. Nowadays, I allways brake until the tipping point, and i gets all more fluently and safer. And other bikers still warn me not to brake in the corners. I know better now.

I was taught by my MSF instructor to always start braking with front and rear brakes and increase front pressure and decrease rear pressure as one slows down. The forward weight shift makes the rear brake almost useless at a certain point, but you should start with both so you can slow down faster.

I'm still practicing it, but this is the approach to trail braking I've taken from watching your videos and some other virtual coaches that I've found over the years. Really started to click for me last weekend after months of practice that what it allows is what you mentioned. "Fast in. Fast out." Second Comment As for the Bikes 🏍️ Road Position it’s always the same unless there is an Hazard or Obstacle on or in the road. The Road 🛣️ is Split into 7 Sections 1. Yellow Line Never 👎 2. Very Rarely; Very Advanced only on roads you know like the back of your hand 🤚 3. Always on Right Handers 4. Centre, Camber High Point; Very Rarely and only when Clean 🧽 mostly used on Switchbacks & Chicanes 5. Always on Left Handers 6. Very Rarely - Very Advanced on roads you know like the back of your hand 🤚 7. White Line Never 👎 It is the same approach on a Track except 1 and 7 are used advantageously and 2,3,5 and 6 tactically and 4 is used to Wheelie across the finish line 🏁

Several other people have mentioned "vanishing point" or "visual horizon"...this is the real KEY FACTOR to COORDINATE SPEED WITH VISUAL HORIZON. When the visual horizon (farthest point you can see down the road) is getting closer-you should be decelerating. When the visual horizon is staying the same distance from you-youcan maintain steady speed. When visual horizon gets farther away from you-you accelerate. The second point I'd make in this vid relates to trail-braking. Advanced riders know how to use brakes, clutch, throttle in a combined fashion but the difference between front and rear trail-braking is the front also increases the dipping of the front suspension more than the rear brake. This change of geometry increases the bikes turning ability.

This is indeed the best explanation regarding trail braking on a public road! Traffic coming from behind (another motorcyclist or fast car) immediately sees that you are slowing down through your brake light, and you can quickly make an emergency stop. Won't the brakes fade and glaze over due to too much overheating, especially if you switch off the ABS?

However, one never stops learning and embracing the new....That could've been me riding that road. Just found this channel recently. Long time rider here. This is similar methods braking as I used on dirt bike tracks. Why I never used it on pavement? IDK. Tried after vid, and got a lot smoother. Thanks….always honing the skills

So, I watched this earlier in the week and this morning found a nice road for intermediate rider and employed all of this in some twisties! No issues …other than 6 coon dog pups that ran out to greet me as I topped a hill at about 50 mph. Trail braked, geared down, hit the horn twice and blew past those pups! All learned here! What can ya say…it’s Southern Mississippi…

@MotoJitsu I have a question. In this video (which is great btw) you are braking thru the the turns until you see your exit. In California superbike school they teach the rule “one you start your turn throttle is supposed to be added constantly thru the whole turn”. That’s not the exact wording but the gist of it. And your technique seems to almost be the opposite? You’re braking thru the turn. I’m not in anyway saying you are wrong. It just seems to be different from what they teach.

I have always done my down-shifting and braking before I enter a corner to avoid the consequences of a mis-shift while leaning and because braking in a turn tends to stand the bike up with the result it can run wide. When riding more aggressively I’ll take the braking into the beginning of the corner as you do.

Braking mid turn doesn’t make the bike go wide, that’s a myth

@@MotoJitsu A lot of riders think that using front brake in the corners (mid corner) makes the bike "stand up" which is not the case in my experience..
