I've been pro abortion most of my life, mainly because that's what I was told to do. A little over a year ago I watched a video of an abortion being performed for the first time and I realized I couldn't justify my opinion any longer. I've always been on the side of the defenseless, when it comes to humans and other animals and watching a baby get torn apart...well, let me just say, I'm a grown man and don't go around sobbing about too many things but honestly, it made me cry a little. I guess I just never gave abortion enough thought to ever really investigate what it's all about.

No, it's not murder. The US adopted english common law after the revolution. Only a Natural Person can be murdered and a Natural Person must be naturally *born*. To adopt is extremely expensive. Not everyone can afford it. People don't "just forget", they just aren't able to. Plus the process is tedious and some children can not get adopted because the right person isnt available.

I agree that adoptions are too expensive and time consuming. My brother adopted a baby Chinese girl instead of an American child partly because of those reasons. However, with appropriate citizen involvement and adoption activism, we could change the adoption systems in this country. I have adopted two children. My second daughter was almost aborted, but thankfully she is with us today. 1)Adoption for a birth mother is not expensive, it is emotionally difficult, but better than murdering a child. 2) Costs of adoption would go down if there were more children available. I would rather talk about a problem finding children homes than talk about how many we are murdering a day. Wouldn't you rather be a live and poor and need a home, than be dead? ADOPTION! Making abortion illegal doesn't make it less common it just makes it less safe. The result of banning abortion or excessively restricting abortion access is more women dying or being severely injured by trying to do the procedure themselves out of desperation. If you want to decrease the amount of abortions that occur the best way to do that is to provide comprehensive sex education and access to affordable contraceptives. There is research to back this up. It is possible to be pro-life and pro-choice. To respect a woman's choice and to respect the fetus by making abortion safe but rare.

I am really torn on the idea of abortion. I know that I, personally, would never have one but I have a hard time negating the negative correlation between abortions and crime rates. Meaning, the more abortions there are, the less crime there is. Abortion was legalized in the 1970s. Crime in the US peaked in the early 1990s but began a steady decline after that. So, once that last generation of babies that might otherwise have been abortion aged out of crime, crime rates plummeted.

I think abortions should be legal up to 7 weeks of pregnancy... I think at least. But that also makes it very important that young girls especially can get help to find out if they are pregnant early and get someone to talk to to help them decide as early as possible to do the abortion. I am prochoice when it comes to whether a woman gets pregnant. That should be the woman's choice. But when it comes to a human being, being executed for the crime of being a nuisance to society then it should be a 12 person jury trial to make that decision. How many infant humans have had a 12 person jury trial to determine if their crime against society is worthy of death? Dr. Levatino suggests that life-threatening pregnancies can be ended by delivering the baby instead of late-term abortion in many cases, which is true, but the example he used (toxemia) was one where it'd take much longer to dilate the cervix than to perfom a c-section. Each individual situation is different and it's up to the the doctor to judge which option will result in fewer complications for the woman. Also, nice strawman you've got there. Gwen If the baby is past viability, that means there is no medical reason why the baby must be killed to save the mother. Just deliver it via c-section or a controlled induction of labor. Stop pretending like all of these women are just jumping at the chance for a medical abortion. They are devastated that their baby may not survive and would like very much to have a successful full term pregnancy. And even if the risk is slightly elevated in the attempt of a live birth (it's not), a woman should still be able to choose to give both lives a chance. If my kid was standing in the way of a speeding truck, I'm not gonna just stand there because it poses a risk to my health. Saving the life of the child absolutely takes priority for most people.

Dairy Queen Of course nobody's "just jumping at the chance for a medical abortion." It's never ideal. It's supposed to be a last resort for when the baby is unlikely to survive even when delivered. And yes, it should ultimately be the woman's choice (but she should be informed of the risks to herself and the baby of either option). I imagine more people would be willing to try to save their kid from a speeding truck than risk pregnancy complications to try to save their baby (although both numbers would be quite high) simply because the kid has more emotional value to them - they actually got to know each other. But again, not every situation is the same and part of what goes into the decision is who has better odds of surviving and having a good quality of life. P.S. I'm neither a medical student nor a medical professional, but most doctors would prioritize the mother's life over the baby's in a life-or-death situation unless the mother dictates otherwise.

My personal belief is that life begins with brain wave activity which usually begins about 60-70 days after zygote implants on the uterine wall. This belief is due to the fact that we consider brain death to be when the brain ceases to create brain waves. I think it is really insidious how our society allows women to treat their unborn babies, if they so close. Many people, in our society, unfortunately think their freedoms trump others freedoms. If you take the stance that an unborn person is not a person and you stand with others who do so, be prepared for the moment when they turn towards you and unperson the people that fit within your subgroup to rationalize your genocide.

I don't know about no abortions for cases of incest and rape. both of those situations are extremely traumatic and can really effect the quality of life after the child is born. I have heard of women being able to raise the child after she was rape but incest is probably even worse since its not only rape, its coming from someone who you're supposed to trust. I think if its discovered in either of the situations I mentioned at a very early stage, then the option for abortion should be readily available. as for my stance on abortion, if you are responsible enough to have sex, you can take care of the kid. if not, give the kid up for adoption, there are plenty of couples who want children.
