Faster to change the date by jumping the GMT hand forward or backward. Moving the hours hand works, too, but takes forever. Good review.

Some pristine looking Yashica’s there. One of the best P&S cameras ever made. Fantastic lens and, to this day, one of the greatest light meter’s ever put in a camera

I love the case, the movement. I'm even ok with the bracelet, but the dial is very busy.

I set both features for my own time zone. One for military the other regular time. Then when I travel use it accordingly. But, as many say…I really don’t need a GMT. I just like the inner workings of the movement.

Hi Eric another honest and great review. I am yet to buy an Islander and when this came out I knew it wasn't for me, but like you said it does not mean it isn't a good one. The indices stood out a mile as not being right for me and that date would definitely be a problem at the end of many months of the year. As for GMT, useful for some but a gimmick most of the time. My G-Shock goes 53 countries I think at a button press (but of course hasn't the same style)

Hard to beat the simplicity of one button press. 😄. Maybe that is what i need for a “travel” watch.

I'm not a GMT enjoyer either, and it's for the same reason as you -- I'm just not a big traveler and I prefer a simple & legible display. I have watches that travel well anyway - such as my SKXMOD'd Casio Royale on an FKM strap, my Citizen Promaster Land AT6080-53L (a brilliant titanium watch with _all_ the features, its H100 movement supports moving X hour(s) forward or back w/o interrupting timekeeping). If I was to get a GMT, I might actually prefer a caller GMT & just use the GMT hand as a 24-hour indicator, as it's helpful when setting the date & time to know whether you're in the "danger zone" within 3 hours of midnight.

That’s a really good idea about using the GMT hand to know if you’re in the danger zone. That didn’t occur to me. That makes sense. Thanks for watching.

i have the 3 hander in charcoal grey and it has some benefits over this, love mine.. as you, ive never needed a gmt but i do have a couple of dual time zones in my collection. some people use the gmt as a 24h hand. i like what marc and ryan are doing, im a big fan and currently proudly own 4 islanders :)

Couldn’t agree more. I think those guys are killing it lately on design. My three handed version of this watch ( green dial) is one of my go to watches and gets a lot of wrist time.

In the video it looked like you tried to use the hacking function to set the date. Just pull the crown to the first position as usual and let the hour hand move forward. Sure this is slower than a normal quick set date, but you can also set the date backwards to speed things up.
@thetattedpharmacist32155 ай бұрын
Agreed, put it in the jumping hour position and wind it on. Easier and quicker than in the time setting position. I can’t help but feel for this particular person, a caller GMT movement such as an NH34 would be more appropriate given the quick set date 🤷♂️

the only thing i don't like is that it's hard to read the minutes track on the dial. the lack of date adjustment doesn't bother me as much.

@@megacab the Grand Seiko SBGN013. It’s an expensive watch, and I believe it’s no longer in the catalog.

@ge48421 thanks for the response. I like it. I'll check the secondary market.

it would have been a lot better if they wouldn't have cheaper out on the foe beads of rice bracelet and also if they would have used a brushed ceramic bezel insert
@EricsEverydayWatches5 ай бұрын
Hello johnnyhuie74. Just out of curiosity why do you prefer the individual beads of rice? Do you find it articulates better or is there some other reason?

There's something about that Marc fella, he has shifty, beady eyes.

He’s a nice guy. I met him at the Winduo watch fair. His entire team was nice. The higher end watch makers were a bit snooty. Christopher Ward personnel ere really nice.
