What a fantastic video. I'm just now tearing down and learning (lots of research and reading) on my C4 race trans. Even before your video, I understood how no 2 transmission are built the same and have completely different purposes for different applications. I would definitely buy parts from someone who is honest enough to just come right out and explain why one kit WILL NOT cover everything for everyone out there. VS someone trying to tell you there kit has it all and be disappointed when it doesnt. Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge. I owned a successful auto repair business for 20 years (now retired) and being honest and upfront about pricing and doing the repair the right way the 1st time made us very reputable. Glad I came across this video. Getting ready to do my first C6 rebuild and was stressing out about a rebuild kit. This is some great advice. And those thrust washers, I thought if they were discolored in some spots they were spent.

Worrying about the washers discolored is what I would call majoring in minor things.

So my C6 is a 68 with an H code servo, could you put together an overhaul gasket/seal kit for the earlier years?

Thanks for this info as I just bought 2 C6's to build into 1 for my Big Block Mustang. I am still learning myself and you gave great tips. I notice a bunch of your parts are out of stock online like the overhaul gasket kit you mentioned. Any idea when they will be back in stock? One trans is the older 70's Lincoln ribbed case that I plan to pull the direct drum out to use for extra clutches. The other is a smooth case that I actually plan to use in the car. I already have a new R Servo kit and a new E Lever. Was thinking about doing a Trangso to the VB, but not 100% sold. Not looking to manually shift the car. I still have to get it all apart when I finally have a place to do so.

I live in New Mexico. I have a 79 Lincoln Mark V with the 6.6 engine and wanted to know if my Lincoln has this C6 transmission? Lately, it doesn’t go into reverse and the Drive won’t engage. Just 1 and 2 work. How much is a rebuild?

Its most likely a C6. Rebuild costs vary quite a bit. Id expect $800-$1500 depending on location and modifications.

Wished you lived closer. I have more than 30 c6's in my yard. Diesels, e4od's small block, Fe and 385's. Couple send you all kinds of parts. I've been collecting them for over 12 years now.

Got a c6 I rebuild about 15 years ago, has reverse but no forward drive, I'm thinking because what I was doing, it blew a drum compression ring or seal that holds pressure to the plates, haven't pulled it out yet, but for some reason reason I think I might have an idea what whent wrong...

My guess is the forward drum came apart. I made a video about that showing my fix for it. I forget the title offhand.

Totally understand the multitude of differences in these things but i will say i was a great fan of your C4 500hp kit for doing mild builds with.ade mt life easy but if yournot making profit aswell then i get it 👍

The problem isnt so much profit as it is we just cant get the parts anymore. That kit used to have a forward planet, hub and a stepped pressure plate. None of those items we can get anymore.

.. i used a TransTec kit with Kolene Steels & Blue Plate Clutches & That Worked Pretty Good .. 👨‍🔧🧰🚀 .. it was four hundred & something dollars .. 💵🤝

Its funny because years ago Raybestos told us if we use their frictions with Kolene steels it would void the warranty. I wonder if they still have this opinion. I havent spoken to them in years.
