I’ve installed cabinets for years. I found all doors are different. All hardware is different. One hole. Two holes. 3”. 3 1/2 “. So I made a jig for each job. Takes less than five minutes. Then when your done thro it away. Simple. Perfect. Free. Love you channel 😎😎

Guys like me need this video. Thanks. New guys: I've thrown away a wastebasketful of plastic gizmos in the last 40 years. If any part is plastic ask yourself how useful that tool will be without that piece.

Thank you for sharing. Tremendous price spread in the two you reviewed. Amazon refers to several mid priced jigs that look comparable to the higher priced item. Bottom line is you would have to be doing a lot of cabinets to justify the price of any of the good ones.

Just admit it! You are a quality-tool freak! Welcome to the club. We can't all afford the best of everything, but there's no bigger pain in the shop than trying to make a cheap tool work right. We just need to decide which quality tools we want to spend the money on, and which tools we can "just" get by with. Enjoyed the video.

I bought one of those "mid range" tools and it worked quite well for the kitchen I did and I have used it on a couple vanities too. Mostly it is in a drawer in my shop. The $150, that I did not spend is in an investment account and is now worth about $500. I think you see my point...

I debated on the True Position one and bought a cheap Chinese version. On a standard pull it was off about 2mm. Drove me bonkers. Tossed it and bought the TP version. Like going from a Yugo to a Bentley. If you can in any way afford it, buy the True Position version.

I bought the cheap jig and it is rubbish. One of the thumb screws I had to tighten my push lock pliers and it did not feel me with confidence when drilling the holes (too much movement for my liking). Fortunately, my first holes were perfect. But then the second attempt was out!!!! I am still using this jig, but taping up the door and marking the handle positions before drilling - checking and rechecking with the jig and drilling free hand. Would love to Position Tool Kit but cannot justify the cost as a weekend wood worker 😁

Good to see you back! While the TruePosition is likely the Starrett of the cabinet hardware installation world, I think (emphasis on "I") this is probably best for professional cabinet people who do this virtually every day. The plastic one is good for nothing based on what I saw. So the only 'mid-range' comment I'd offer is, purchases on these are dependent mainly on how many pulls and knobs you need to do. I'm fine with saving $ and making templates. You produce really good tool comparison content - have you considered a related video on the various Euro door hinge jigs?
@InspireWoodcraft
@InspireWoodcraft 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah agreed. As someone who isn't made of money, I try to always start my observations with the lower end stuff first because that is most likely what I would have to buy myself. 😂 I didn't even know jigs were available to buy until I was sent these ones. I've always just made my own. As for the hinge jigs, yes I have. Again one of those things I usually make myself, but there are a lot on the market. Hopefully soon!

if I was an installer the true position jig would be a no brainer but if you are putting hardware on your own kitchen a $400 CND jig is not an option. there are some decent all metal ones for under $60 CDN that I would prefer over the inaccurate plastic versions that I think makes more sense because who wants to look a crooked handles every day.

@andrewknots

I’ve had good experience with the metal jig from Banggood. One thing you didn’t mention was the quick setup for setting the pull width by loosely assembling the pull through the guide bushes, which allows one to set up for unknown dimensions

I've heard a lot of great things about the True Position but its just too expensive for me. If I was doing a lot sure, but at the time, not so much. The Kreg is okay. I would totally invest in it though if I was doing a kitchen remodel.

At the end, but lining up those fake eye lashes requires repeatable jig... hence the "synergy" 😂 As always, very well thought out and to the point review. Was getting worried about you, hope all is well. As for the cost, if you need to do this for a living, time is money. And imperfect handles is money down the drain (never mind the reputation/word of mouth hit)

What about the Neitra tool, at less than half the cost of theTrue tool
@InspireWoodcraft
@InspireWoodcraft 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think that's actually the one I showed at the end. Based on my experience with other tools, I would say that the quality of materials is going to be far better that the plastic ones and from what I've seen online, they are a bit better designed. (Like the end stop not having drill guides in it, and the graduations being easier to read.) I don't recall if the Neitra jig comes with replaceable bushings (I know they say they ARE replaceable), but they claim they use case-hardened bushings, yet only give it a 10,000+ use wear rating whereas True Position's uses the same verbiage and has a 100,000+ wear rating. So that's suspect, to me anyways. One thing I thought about too is if you lose or break any of the parts on the other stuff, you're stuck buying a whole new jig. At Neitra's ~$100 price, replacing the whole thing twice would be the exact same price as True Position's $200 price to begin with. Where with True Position every single part, even thumbscrews, can be bought separate. Like I said in the video too, I think the extension ruler, which I haven't seen available for any of the other jigs, makes all the difference.

Appreciate the video but you compared the expensive one to the cheapest plastic piece of junk out there. I purchased one off Amazon for $29 that has mostly metal parts and has been great for my applications. I know you mentioned this at the end of the video but there are some great jigs out there for a fraction of the price of the TP jig.

Was this a sponsored video? Could you please disclose this upfront if it is? Seems like it may have been. Toward the end of the video you say that you reviewed these two tools because that’s what was sent out. A sponsored video with talking points from the company is different than someone just sharing their review after making a purchase. Please be upfront about this. All the content otherwise can be the same, but the filters we use may change, along with how much we trust your recommendations.
@terrmaso

He gave an unbiased opinion. He even showed why he felt the way he did about the products. If you have watched previous videos, he has stated the video was sponsored. If you choose not to use his videos based on an algorithm you have established, that's fine. You have no input as to how he makes his videos. Unfortunately it is people/organizations like you that make creators not want to produce content. For all we know you could be working for the company that wound up getting a poor review.

@@terrmaso Wow. That’s a bit over the top for what I wrote. For your information I have been subscribed for over a year, maybe two. I have watched every video since then. Many I have shared grateful comments and even had my buying decisions changed based on these videos. Additionally, as a community member who cares about the creators I watch - not based on an algorithm - I speak up and share feedback to support even better content in the future. This feedback can be taken or left by creators, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong in what I’ve said. Sponsored videos should be disclosed upfront. This is a universal standard among creators. When there isn’t that disclosure it may lead to a creator losing the trust of his audience. I just pointed out my perception of the video and what was said towards the end about the products being provided for this video. No need to be upset with me for sharing an observation and asking for disclosures upfront.

There should be a little box in the upper left of the video when it starts to play that reads "this video contains a paid promotion", or something like that. In this case, both tools were sent out by both companies that make and/or sell the items, however I was not given any "talking points" by anyone and no one reviewed this video prior to publishing. I also received no monies from either company. In the case of this particular video, I do receive a small commission through affiliate marketing if you were to purchase an item that I linked, as stated in the video description. However, that isn't always the case as sometimes I work with brands that don't sell on Amazon or other sites that have affiliate program, and don't offer an affiliate program themselves. Woodpecker's would be a perfect example of this. As a creator, when you start the video with two minutes full of disclaimers, as I have done in the past, people click of and don't watch anyways, because they didn't click on a video to watch a bunch of disclaimers. Kind of defeats the purpose of making the video. That's what that little box in the corner is for. Hope that helps.
@realgoose

@@InspireWoodcraft Really appreciate your thoughtful response. I restarted the video and did see that box for a paid promotion. I didn’t see that the first time through because my feed was on auto play and I missed the first 30 seconds of your video, hence didn’t see the banner. Wonder if there is a compromise between making a long intro with disclaimers and quickly sharing how you came about the products you are going to tell us about? Good time to point out the affiliate links and how it’s a way we can support you. I do appreciate your content and the help it has been to my own hobby woodworking. And thank you for hearing my feedback. Blessings on you mate!

Good as always. Dennis from Hooked on Wood does a review of the BangGood version (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioSrkIWemrx_bMk) and liked it. Not as full featured as the True Position, but a good compromise if your not looking for the extended range.
