As an online freelancer who's never worked in an office and never wishes to, I watch videos like this every now and then to remind myself why 😂😅 I'm a blunt introvert with no patience for drama and I don't usually get on with people offline. But I'm able to do so online, and in general being in charge of my own projects and my own time just works so much better for me. Thanks for making this video. It's incredibly valuable and sincere, and I appreciate you ❤

I just started my first corporate job at 31 after a career in f&b hospitality (server, bartender, manger, etc). Thank you so much! This was a great primer for rearranging my expectations and mindsets. Also a lot of this (don't drink the kool aid, gossip culture) are great pieces of advice in general.

Hey @aceille how's your HR role been going the past year?
@aceille6 ай бұрын
@@brauliol wow hello there I completely forgot about leaving this comment. well, i got promoted last year, am super slammed with work since then, planning to hire an assistant soon and change companies once i get an opportunity to do so. i have a good work ethic, am adaptable, learn fast and am self-managed - thus low maintenance employee - so i was pretty much handed over managing the HR for about 11 offices in a group of 4 companies with little to no support from the leadership and no team. i don’t mind but i need more people to do the work and improving processes so i have been begging for a full time permanent assistant but only managed to convince them of letting me get a temp intern. good enough for now but idk how they expect me to keep up this pace year round and add the recurring training of new interns to it as well. the market isn’t the best now, i have been searching for a new company for a while with no success. not many opportunities in my area. but yes i still give the credit to Emily for equipping me with tools to getting as far as i have come now.

Hey. I work in the service industry. I have some friends that do corporate jobs. I was curious to delve a little deeper into the different inndustry cultures. I could never exist in an environment like this. I think about the grass being greener if I had a well paid office job. I now think it would be signifigantly worse. It seems like you actually kind of have to care about your job to thrive in this world. I get paid less, yeah. I also get to clock out and disengage. I also get to goof off with coworkers, talk to my coworkers about things outside of work and have little real responsibility. Lifes for living. There is a balance between responsibility and money. Its harder to make a living in the service industry though....but possible. It also seems like less layoffs

I totally resonate with what you are saying! Regarding bad vibes from some people (generally young), and searching for good mentoring. My best learnings come from separating myself from the sheep gossipping flock and getting closer to senior roles, especially women, who could give me advice on both social and technical skills from a mature position. You end up becoming more efficient and focused. Also, salary negotiation: we women are TOO HUMBLE, and end up getting waaaaaaay less paid than our male work colleagues! some of them even less experienced or educated. One thing we have to learn from corporate men: have self-confidence even when there is no factual basis for it.

Solid video, bloody corporate lol. -It's funny, unfortunately many bosses seem to make mistakes into a big deal, as if they are saving lives. Just ask them if they've ever lost their wallet before lol. -learnt that colleagues aren't my friends the hard way, also never look up to your boss, no matter how good they are. -However, with after work events, after attending quite a few, realised that attending them was almost pointless. People chat to you to gage what they can gain out of you and see if your worth interacting with, and being a backend person, many times there isn't too much, which I don't give a flying fuck about. I'm currently in the same situation where I am grossly underpaid and looking to get the hell out to where I am valued properly.

I don't think the "catty gossiping drama" thing will be a problem for me. I'm there to work and earn the money, not make friends. Sure it would be nice to have a good relationship with my coworkers, but I want to keep my eyes on the prize. If they try to bother me with gossiping about others, I'm telling them "I live by the Sheldon Cooper rule: Unless it somehow effects me, then whatever they say or do is none of my business. So does it involve me? No? Then suffer in silence!" That and the fish one is easy for me, because I HATE fish!
