Watch this before you buy a pet Monkey! Monkeys are not meant to be pets and can be very dangerous!

Monkeys, especially need a GROUP of other monkeys to just be content and unless you are running a sanctuary, it is just IMPOSSIBLE to spend enough time with each of them. Let alone being able to afford their care. Finding a vet, that will treat primates isn't such an easy feat, either. It's like raising a super fast and strong creature, but with the mind and communication skills of a child. A creature that NEVER matures mentally but can still live for 30-40 years. Monkeys are NOT, and should never even be considered, pets!

There are couples on YT that have "pet" monkeys living in their homes. They dress them up, sit them in high chairs for meals, have outdoor play enclosures, etc. I think they are deluding themselves if they believe nothing bad will ever happen to them. I sometimes look at their monkeys' faces and see such sadness & discontent. They seem to know they are not living the life they are meant to be living, and according to what both of you have said here some kind of backlash in the form of acting out aggressively is inevitable.

After volunteering at animal shelters,i see abandoned animals with such sad and bewildered faces, too. People cry and carry on about monkeys living a long (20+ years in captivity,less than 10 in the wild) and comfortable life;but shrug off the daily abuses of animals right under their nose.

Monkeys have successfully been pets for far longer than dogs and or cats have been. Even dogs and or cats need specialised care and as such part of the reason ~300,000+ dogs and ~150,000 cats in US shelters are euthanised every year. All animals come with specific needs and many animal.owners, especially small animals, have not done their homework as too the needs of their animal and results in difficulty but proportionately, there are fewer problems with monkeys than dogs and or cats. If you do not agree that others have a particular pet, I ask why then would you watch, especially if you find it upsetting the owner dresses their pet(s) in some sort of adornment. Seems a bit masochist to me. Please know that all animals can at any time bite the owner. They are animals and therefore unreal to expect their behaviour to be that of a human, even with training. Your comment saying people are foolish to not believe their animal would ever bite them is you speaking on the daft, emotional side. I do not believe the majority of pet owners believe that. I have found those who tend to parrot the animal rights terrorists propaganda seem more likely to not have a clear, rational understanding of animal ownership.

Look at their big sad darkbrown Eyes ...it tells alot !!! they're not happy , even they not understand any Words !! When you take in a monkey to care for you have to have someone that can give them 100 percent of their time. You have to always remember they are monkey 1st. They will get attached to their main care taker's and no one else can take care of them or stick their finger in their faces. You have to teach them who is the dominate 1. Mother's will abandoned their babies if their sick or just not ready to be a mother. I think it's good their are people that take the time to do the hour's of training it takes before you can get the permits to have them. Their homes are inspected before they can have a monkey in their home. And responsible person that has taken in or has gotten monkey's as pet's will tell you it cost money. They take 100 percent of your attention and you have to give them space to be monkey's.

@Tracey Scarborough You are correct. Its a 24/7 job to care for monkeys. You cannot have a job or school, you and the monkey are one. That's what people don't understand. Also, you can't just walk up on a monkey and hold your hand out to them, you have to let them come to you on their terms. The person that owned the monkey in the other comment should have told Faye not to go after them. Thats why I think its wonderful in Florida you have to have so many hours of training to handle monkeys. Not everybody should be able to buy one. They need to be very educated. Finally, people should get 2 monkeys. I'm not saying to out and buy 2 monkeys at the same time but eventually they are going to be outside and need a companion.

@@inspire734 So a baby monkey 4 day's old hanging on to it's mother while the mother was in a fight with another got killed. They had to go in and take the monkey or the 1 that killed his mother was going to kill him. Should they let the baby monkey be killed? Or do they send it to people that have taken hour's of glasses. That have all the permits. That have raised the liability insurance on their home to cover someone that might get hurt. That have thought as far ahead as they live up to 50 year's who will take them. That has outside jungle gyms for them. That yes dresses them because their body temperature runs cooler than ours. That feed's them and takes care if them. No it's not ideal. And the exotic trade should be shut down. But a lot of the monkeys you see was not bought. They were rescued. And I'm thankful for the 1s that save them and give them the best life possible. You should watch Winston the spider monkey on Tictoc. The guy that rescued him talks about everything owning a monkey. The dos and the don'ts he has quit a few animals he has rescued. I know there's nothing that can change your mind about keeping them in captivity. But for some what the other option?

Monkeys can be pets, all animals were wild or exotic at one time. The have found monkeys with collars on them in a pet grave yard at the pyramids, The number of people who have been injured by monkeys is a very small number compared to dogs. There is dangerous breeds of dogs that people think they need to own and they can be very aggressive to their owners or the neighbors kids. Just compare the number of deaths by dogs and monkeys and see for yourself. Monkeys are comparatively harmless, you just need to give them their space. People have been bitten by their parrots myself included. All animals and pets can be dangerous even so-called domesticated animals like cattle they can run right over you and kill you. The monkey issue is a dumb issue, if a person can own a 180 LB pit bull that will eat granny next door why can’t responsible pet owners have monkeys. I believe some dog breeds should be banned because of the danger of having them, you can’t even own a ferret so what is the deal here it makes no sense at all.

That’s all fine and all. But I think you’re missing out on one vital bit of info here. Dogs and cats were selectively breed for a LONG time. They did so by breeding the more tame ones, and not breeding the more aggressive ones. Another thing you’re missing here, intelligence. NHP’s have their own agenda, and this will never change.

I used to work at a animal sanctuary. There were times when I had to help feed some of the animals including the primates. I was so afraid of them that finally the founder told me not to go around them. I remember watching a talk show where they had this woman on the show whose friend had been killed by her petonkey. This monkey had been with the owner for years. There was another report where this monkey attacked it's owner an literally tore her face off. She lived but had constructive operations!

They are not pets, they are companion animals. You have to know their language. If they are agitated or not well, they can be agressive. To people in their troup they are alright, but outsiders they fend off. That is their nature. You need a special type of indoor/outdoor enclosure for them, which can be expensive.

Primates are not pets. They are wild animals. They are not domesticated and can never be domesticated. They are highly intelligent, long-lived, extremely active, have very specific diets, and most live in very complex social groups. When they are infants, they resemble human babies and people assume they’ll stay compliant and lovable. They don’t. When they hit sexual maturity, whether you remove their sex organs and teeth or not, you’ll have a dangerous, aggressive animal. It’s just their nature, as they’ve adapted by evolution to compete for social status, sexual partners, and food. Even a marmoset can do serious, permanent damage. There is simply no way a typical human home can ever provide an adequate life for a primate. If you love primates, volunteer at a zoo or sanctuary. If you want a companion animal, adopt a cat or a dog. If you want a child substitute but don’t want to volunteer to help human children in need, get some counseling and learn to be happy with yourself as you are.

I owned horses and dogs my whole life and was never bitten by them. I was bitten by my Aunts pet Capuchan that destroyed the inside of her home, would swing on the drapes, go after peoples jewelry and try to rip necklaces off. I was sitting in the living n room having a cup coffee and the damn thing stuck it’s entire head in my cup to taste what I had. That made me mad so I hit it over the head with a rolled up magazine and it showed me it’s teeth, then I picked up the cup and was going to smash it’s head in when my aunt came over and got the rat. They’re nasty animals. Don’t get one.! Get another horse or dog instead.

I had a spider monkey when I was young a friend had her and was going to dump her because he was tired of taking care of her.she was 8 years old when he gave her to me after getting used to a new place she turned into the best pet I ever had she would go everywhere I went never had trouble with anger treated her right she stayed with me for 19 years I'll never find another one like her she was 27 when she died and was always playing and happy miss her

monkeys like dogs and cats aren't inherintly dangerous creatures the only time these animals turn vicious and dangerous is down to the way they get raised, treated, and trained by the owners. if they are raised the wrong way, trained to be vicious by the owners, or generally abused neglected and mistreated by the owners then inevitably they will turn nasty and become dangerous towards strangers. and it won't matter what breed of dog or type of monkey the animal is it's always going to be down to the nature of the owners period. treat the monkeys properly and bring them up right then like kids they should turn out right
