You forgot the number one con of owning a T: IUts people's reactions to them. Fear of them is a thing and if you happen to have your T on display and some idiot sees it and decides to take it upon themselves to kill it with no respect to you or your T, then that could be a problem. That happened to me at a house party I had at my place and some silly broad opened it up and killed my T just because of her irrational fear. I called the police on her and the judge made her pay but the loss of your pet is heartbreaking.

Tarantulas are kind of like having fancy plants. You love and take care of them so much, and they'll never know... It's kind of sad. The most complicated plants I can manage to care for are succulents (the easiest plants to manage) mostly because I have cats that destroy things I love, so a tarantula might be out of my league.

JPs Pet Nation haha very true! I already have a list of 2-3 more already named and waiting for me to find them available. I’m glad I was able to rescue my first, it was very unplanned and impulsive... but I lucked out. A curly hair had been the first that made my thoughts go from “never” to “maybe” in regards to keeping a tarantula. I’ve kept scorpions and snakes my whole life, so I’m not totally inexperienced keeping “creepy” or “scary” pets that need a bit of extra caution, care and patience. I had planned on taking my time setting up an enclosure, starting up some feeder insect colonies, and waiting for an expo to come to my area... then Squish happened to need rescuing one day so.. Left the house for milk, came back with a spider. Mom wasn’t happy with my choices that day but I sure was haha

Okay Kat, I love your videos and you have become a great source of informative in a very short time. I started watching you when you had 14 tarantulas and have watched you grow so much as a keeper. Now, my thought about being tamed and bonding.... I agree they are not animals you can tame, but I see some amazing bonding with certain tarantulas. Maybe bonding isn't the right way to describe it, but with my 11 tarantulas, the ones we have been raising from very tiny slings seem to have a 'sense' of us. Our T. vegans gets very pissy with my partner, but she's perfectly mellow with me. She's quite a character and she's got that threat posture that could terrify anyone who is not familiar with demonstrative T's. My juvenile B hamorii, Adelaide, has been mine pretty exclusively since she was a very tiny sling. I swear I am not crazy. I can open her enclosure and she will actually walk over to my hand and walk on to it like she knows she's safe. I don't handle ours too much because, like you said, they are not social animals and do prefer to be left alone. Anyway, just my opinion. The most amazing bonding-like behavior I saw was with an OBT. She isn't typical. She lets her keeper handle her but the crazy thing was watching a video of her climbing onto her keepers hand and she sort of made her self comfortable and I was totally shocked! I saw this video in a Facebook group. Now of course I can't find it. Maybe it was all a dream. :) I do admit I believe in many things that are not scientifically proven.

One thing that I would add is that with tranchulas you do have to have a lot of patience. Some species grow quickly and some grow very slowly. Like watching grass grow. So what can happen is you are impatient waiting for the T to get larger so you get a larger one and another one and another one oh and did I mention that one is just gorgeous and you have to have it? Oh but look at that one! And the next thing you know you have 30 tranchulas.

I don’t have a tarantula, but I have a huge brown recluse that I have grown quite fond of! Everybody that comes over, I tell them to leave the spider alone hanging out near my porch light! I love that spider, and would be very sad if someone killed it! I used to have a fly problem until that spider built its web by my porch light! The rain washes the web away every now and then, and I’ve seen that spider build the web back within a few hours! It’s amazing to see the work that spider produces! The web is huge! Spanning at least 4 feet long, and 3 feet wide! And it amazes me how quick that spider rebuilds after a rain storm! The first couple of rain storms made me sad, because I thought the spider was washed away! Night comes though and the web is back! My guess is my porch light is a good food source! I may be crazy for allowing a brown recluse to stay so close to my house, but the spider helps me, keep the insects away, and the ones that do come to the light, get trapped in the web! I was going to get a Venus fly trap, but Mother Nature brought that spider to me and solved my problem!

Thank you for this video. I'm a huge spider lover, when I lived in London back in the 1990s I had a tarantula, I only know what she was classed as "Mexican Blonde", she was beautiful, she was chocolate brown, with the most gorgeous pink hairs on her abdomen, she was very easy to handle (I mean if she ran up my arm or something she wasn't skittish), I left her in care with friends when I left the UK. Now here in Australia we are not able to get more "exotic" species, but we do have our own tarantulas ... there's not a lot of info on them, there's basically only exotic pet shops that sell them without a whole heap of information. I'd love to get one again, and as you've shown, very easy to maintain ... I know this is a huge ask, but are you able to find more about Aussie Tarantulas and give me a recommendation on what would be a great species to have as a pet. Cheers Dean.

I knew nothing when I got my first tarantula Blair, she was a 14 year old Rose Hair, her owner had decided just to let her starve to death as he was tired of her, I said I will take her I brought her home and then tried to figure out how to care for her. I think I did fairly well for she lived 13 more years in my care so she got to be 27 years old. When Blair died I went and got a B.Emilia that I have now. I choose her species as I wanted the longest lived species I could find. I was sold the wrong cage for her though so I have bought Hufsa a new cage so then I want an pink toe to live in her old cage. I think they make great pets but while I think Hufsa have a personality and I sort of can't see her as just instincts, they are more of a pet you observe than interact with and most of the time she is dug down under ground.

Watching your vids definitely inspired me to get a tarantula. Maybe not as many yet lol but they are so cool. I went with a Grammostola pulchra for my first one. Took me a while to choose which species to go with.

I saw a cartoon when I was little that showed a witch who had a pet tarantula and I was like "I WANT A PET TARANTULA" & my grandma was like "Absolutely not" lol But now that I'm older I'm ready to get one, I'm not sure when or what specific kind but I'm like committing to the idea and planning on getting everything prepared, & overall I'm really enjoying watching your videos and looking at all the wonderful footage/photos of them :)

That’s the only thing stopping me from getting one is because of my cat I had lizards hamsters and rats killed by my cat he literally will knock the cage/ tank over and chase them then kill them so I think it’ll be best if I don’t get a tarantula atm because I’m not going to get rid of my cat I had for 5 years now and I’m too attached to let him go Edit: I love your videos and I’m gon keep watch them 💯

Greetings Kat and comunity I start watch videos for about 2 months and I enjoy them so much that I will get soon my first Tarantulas. I take it really serious with them, watching care vids from Tom Moran and other YT Channels. For me it´s not only getting a new beatuful pet, more I enjoy learnig about them and understanding, while having a nice pet. It was not easy to decide witch one I want to get first, old worlds are from the table, also i decide to get 3 of them. Grammostola pulchripes, Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens and Brachipelma auratum. They grow not so fast and I can grow with them. I will buy them on a Expo in my near. It´s my first Expo and I´m total excited like a kid in a candy faktory. I took care sheeds for every Tarantula to prepare myself the best possible way Sorry I´m not juse to write in englisch at all XD a normal conversations will be fine. I get use to it XD to learn it not only in your main language is more fun for me

You don't have to apologize for your English; you are doing a great job. Keep it up and good luck with your future tarantulas!

Great video, I'm looking to buy my first tarantula here in Australia 🇦🇺. I would like to know, I always burn scented candles but the spider would be on the other side of the room. Would this still affect it?

CONS: pre-molt. My Megaphobema robustum is in pre-molt again. She molted just 30 days ago. She went from 3.5 inches to 4+ and now she will be even bigger by next week or so. My Tliltocatl albopilosum (Curly) and my Grammostola pulchipes (Larry) just molted. My Brachypelma boehmei (Moe)is in pre-molt. I only have 4 T's and none will be eating this week 😢. Curly, Moe, and Larry are slings.

I want a tarantula so bad because of how low maintenance they are compared to my reptiles. I also love the variety of species there are

my cat luckily doesn’t really eat insects and bugs, she just likes playing with them.... which still doesn’t bode well for my tarantula friend should she ever get a hold of her. also, I have an a. avicularia, and when she was a juvenile I could handle her no problem. however, after a couple molts, she no longer tolerates being held and she WILL bolt. which isn’t a bad thing, I’m perfectly okay just watching my beautiful friend live. c:

Theyre 3 species that are fascinating to me...Haplopelma minax (my first love as a child) , m. Balfuri and p. Irminia. The problem is noone of those is condered a starter Tarantula but i want one of them as my first. (in germany new worlds are more expensiv as old worlds) and the Haplopelma minax is very rare, Balfuri is maybe better in communal and Irminia is a skittish fast arboreal xD bad choices for a beginner i know but i love them

The only tarantula ive ever owned was a rosehair....she/he...it was a wonderfull creature and it rarely if ever flicked hairs at me....when done so as soon as i touched it.. It would stop realizing i am not a threat... Sadly when i was about 13 i gave it to a good rescue home thinking it tried to bite me as i was trying to pry tape off of its foot that i used to hold up a thermometer inside of the enclouser...didnt kno that it didnt matter for the heat then...but soon after the freak out i just realized it was using it fangs for extra grip so it wouldent fall or lose balance on my hand while i was performing this task....but yea i recommend a rosehair if u dare to brave handeling an arachnid of size...if you handle shuch a large spider keep it close to the ground because its weight can be its downfall ...literally.. such beautiful creatures tarantulas or spiders all of them are unique and serve a bigger purpose to this world than any human combined....get your nature facts on par or its just plain survival of the fittest
