Peering down through the inspection hatch of old van bodies on to the gearbox below and lifting the selector housing off whilst peering into a strategically positioned shaving mirror to keep an eye on the indent springs!!!Never imagined all that electronic/air wizardry would come to be. Hello I have a duff xf model 2020 trailer. Retard three-stroke engine. Very often, the valve stem and tappet will be damaged. Why is it so weak? The mechanic told me that the reason it breaks is because you use too much retarder in the engine brake. Is it correct and what should I do to prevent the valve stem from breaking? Thanks

Love the videos, im in Australia with a CF85, MX13, Astronic ZF. I have a vibration or shudder when accelerating from slow speeds which I suspect is the clutch, but have a different one almost a crackly grinding at top speed when not under power, but goes away when I press exhaust brake. I dont know if its the clutch as well, or gearbox, or even exhaust valve?? Its just done 500,000kms. Doesn't make any noise when stationary and revved etc. Any ideas??

I've found a totalled 2010 Iveco that has a ISX with one of these box's behind it & would love to know if I could use all the parts frol it to fit it in behind the ISX in my 05 FH16 Volvo crane truck ( I'm sick of the 18spd RR box as I'm always driving in city traffic 🙄) & in depth knowledge of these boxes is pretty patchy here in Australia! P.s. I'm familiar with the operation of these boxes as my 18t 4x4 MAN'S have them

Great video! Thanks. I have exactly the same dtc, is the only dtc my gearbox have. Counter 60 times😅. In my case the gearbox goes into N only between 1 and 7 gear. when gearbox try to shift , it goes into Neutral and warning transmission in red, 8 and upper gear works good, have diferent solenoid for low and high gears? I'm thinking of replacing only the solenoid part for a remanufactured one. This behaviour may be not related to the upper astronic ecu? What is your opinion? My truck have 1 million kilometers 😅. 2016 xf 460 my dealer ask me 5000GBP for a complete new(remanufactured) modulator😮

Hello, very informative video. Good work. I've gotten the error 3002 FMI:10 that seems to be splitter valve Y2, I changed the As Tronic Ecu and Cylinder and cables that go under gear box, but the error is still there. Could anyone have any idea what it is? Cheers!

Hi, thank you for the comment and for taking the time to watch the video. As for your issue, I believe you could possibly have an open circuit on the Selector Valve circuit y2 still unfortunately. Have you checked for continuity from the PCB to y2 on the modulator?

If it helps, this gearbox was also fitted to MAN, so don't think you are limited to DAF if you're struggling to find a competent technician/garage to repair it

Hi buddy thanks for the comment. There are a few videos on KZbin of it doing 300nm I think but It certainly isn't that.. I had the fuel 3/8 ratchet before this and this angle impact wipes the floor with that but it's not as powerful as the 3/8 stubby impact gun. All I can say is if you have the gun and want more flexibility in removing stuff get this.....just don't expect it do wheel nuts 😂

I am currently having a similar problem on my 2015 euro 6 Xf. The truck has been in the shop for 3 weeks and they cant find the fault. It is intermittent and comes a goes every other day. You can get it to work by shutting of the main power switch for a while. The clutch and slave is new with no difference. The have cleaned the modulator because it was pretty grotty.

Hey, thanks for the comment Tom. I think you should put some seals on the 3 main pistons in the lid or just get it all reconditioned. If you want to see if it's the lid, do you have another truck you could substitute it off for a day?

No problem! you can swap them over in about an hour and then see if the fault moves to the other gearbox 👍

@@TRUCKTECHUK i have binged your videos and i wish i could find a mechanic like you in sweden. I have had two identical 510s since new and they have been very reliable. The have similar miles on them around 1 million each. They are still fuel efficient and dont take any oil, 4 liters per year.

Hey, thanks for the comment. Model year 2018 will have a traxon box fitted when you say letting go of the gears. Do you mean slipping or dropping into neutral?

Hi thanks for the comment. 👍 Working at a dealer they don't pay you to fix the part! trucks under contract maintenance like the trucks I work on at the dealership WOULDN'T allow seals to be put in for repair as the modulator has to be free from defects for 12 months under warranty.

I haven't seen an AS-Tronic AS-Mid issue in years to be honest ..When it first came out fitting the lid really was hit and miss ,then it was remove the 2 screwa to see the rods and now as you did it is a camera...DIP i thought was Drivers instrument Panel lol...I offically hate the MX11 ,i have a long block ,jesus drssing it is a nightmare ,MX13 is lovely in comparison ,and when you build up the hot side to find the turbo coolant pipe does not fit in the block as the blocks been modified ,and the parts where meant to order it as it is annotated with a (1) but didn;t is slightly annoying as i now need to strip it all again lol Though if that is my only issue i will be happy...I see in RMI in the academy they have launched more training i have went from 100% to 75%......And we have got new DAVIES pre release ones ,detachable screen ,but they dont look as robust as a unit

Hi norb 👋 funny enough I seen a as-tronic MID issue in a LF the other day, it was a 21 plate. The APU had packed up causing the air not to build over 7 bar ......so no gears 🙈 I'm going to make a tool to do these rods which sets the modulator and the ones in the gearbox so it should just drop on then....here hoping! You had me 2nd guessing myself with DIP so I checked RMI just now 🤣🤣🤣. Parts not doing their jobs correctly!!! NEVER!!! Leyland training at it's finest 🙈. Sometime I have to read there bulletins to them myself 🤣 I best go check and see if I'm still at 100%! I'm still waiting to do more E.V diagnostics. I see the passwords change every 90 days now 😑

@@TRUCKTECHUK When AS-Tronic first came out, ZF gave the dimensions to make a tool from wood that set the dimensions .so it should still be in RMI..It is the same at our place with parts if you want a plug kit ,unless you give them the number ,you will get whatever they think it is you want.I have even showed them how to find them in the diagrams ..As you know it has been a while since i have had to really use a DAVIE lol..are you talking about RMI or DAVIE passwords

Hey thanks for the comment. The vehicle is under a maintenance contract so it has to be replaced as a complete unit, the unit is reconditioned and is covered by a years parts and labour warranty. If this was a cash customer I would rebuild the seals and charge him more labour
