@@theblindfishkeeper I would think they could branch it out into other things as well that not just fish keeping. But you are probably right that with fishkeeping being such a smaller hobby itself the visually impaired portion is thus smaller already.

I have to save for somebody that’s new to the hobby I I would definitely give them a thumbs up for this because if you can skip the testing stuff and just glance at it and know that there’s further attention required whether that’s additional testing or remediation needed, then everything‘s as it should be. It’s better than somebody ignoring it until they find a bunch of dead fish

my thoughts exactly! Like I put them in tanks that sit above my head so I cant always just get up there and test water or visually inspect the fish. So havin these on the side of the tank at least lets me ascertain an issue with a glance at the color. Since i'll know that pale yellow is an ok color then it jumps to a green or blue when stuff gets worse.

People parrot things they never even try. The strips work fine for what we do. It's a turn key operation. The Chem tests have the potential to be more accurate, yes, but all it takes is an extra or one too few "drips", or 10 seconds too long or too short in the tube, or shaking for 10 seconds too much or too less, and they can be wildly off too. All you really need is consistency.
@Lefty3213a

Ya I have tested the strips against the liquids and get the same readings. It's the same with pool testing kits. People think the strips aren't accurate and you MUST test with liquid
@anonymouswhite7957
@anonymouswhite7957 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s because strips go unreactive overtime and usually have no expiration date to indicate how reactive it is (usually about 2 or 3 years though). Also exposure from sunlight or moisture getting to the strips before use can affect the color too Consistency can be an observational error, since it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s accurate. Like maybe 10 test strips shows consistent ph of 6.5, but if the water actual ph is 7 it doesn’t really matter. There is no reliable best water test kit, except maybe sending water sample to labs or using all of the different kind of test kits

Ya that's why I always test both if I need to. I just like the sticks for a quick dipstick to check water. If somethings wrong I will go back and liquid test

An inexpensive reassurance for newbies like me. Helps me monitor what's going on. The ammonia one especially. A good product for sure 👍

@jspratt97

Bear in mind the alert only measures free ammonia (Nh3), whereas most test kits measure total ammonia (Nh3+Nh4). Nh3 is the toxic part and it makes up a very small part of total ammonia. Look up "free ammonia calculator" to estimate Nh3 using your regular liquid test kit. Also make sure you followed the instructions exactly. If you get the chance I suggest you re-evaluate and let us know if it still does not work.

@@jspratt97 I followed the instructions on the pack, avoiding finger contact etc it never changed Colour, not once and this was a brand new aquarium that was going through a cycle. You can do a test to see if it works and my one didn’t change colour when I tested it. It 100% doesn’t work. Had it in my aquariums about 2 months. I’m assuming it’s down to the batch if it works or not, the manufacturer probably sells bad batches along with ones that work. I have a 250 litre aquarium with 50 tropical fish and 30 shrimp. Aquarium is cycled now so the monitor of basically of no use now, really needed it when I was establishing my tank. Waste of €20

Be aware people it only tests FREE ammonia not total ammonia. API and other test kits test for nh3 and nh4, this product only tests the harmful ammonia type.

I realized after I filmed it I forgot to verbalize it in the video and not just in text, my apologies. So the Ammonia is good for one year. The pH is good for six months. The kit cost 10 bucks though so not super expensive.

@@theblindfishkeeper now what I would love to see is some type of audible alarm system that works the same way. If it detects a change to ammonia is goes off and says ammonia detected or something. Kind of like the sensors for hot water when people are filling cups. I watched a youtuber with retinitis pigmentosa who uses one.
@theblindfishkeeper

@@Lefty3213a yes sir, those would rock. I have one of those sensors myself. Not just for hot water, but for pouring liquids in general. I also would like to see some sort of testing device there’s auditory responses for their readings. That would just allow me a little bit more independence with my hobby!🐠🦯
