People seem to take designing way too seriously on this game. Just make what stands out to you and that way you don't have to feel too overwhelm by others. Its YOUR island, YOUR imagination, and how YOU see it. Try to challenge yourself into thinking that you are in control of your island and you make it how you see fit. Thats the mindest I went with and it worked out really well.

I make my island into my wonderland, I like to make it cute and well decorated but I don’t think having a non aesthetic island makes u worse at the game. Everyone should have their own island however they want it :) for me though, I do want my island to be well decorated

I don't really much care about the theme for my island, I just make whatever stands out to me. I don't take designing too seriously. I usually just make an island based on a small park or towns that I usually visit in real life and sometimes I may make something that is not related to the theme I started out with, but I didn't care all that much. It was from my imagination and I didn't let other islands bother me all that much. My point is you should make whatever stands out to you and never compare yourself with others.

I do the same actually lol. Each part that's separated by the river(s) has its own theme so it's not all the same. I like it that way. I hope you'll get a five star island! (if you already do then I'm super happy for you!)

@@Roxyy_Foxyy I just plant alot of flowers, put a lot of fencing, decorate the island with furniture items (with floor lights and Nook mile items), and of course having only 8 villagers on the island. That was enough to get me to 5 stars.

amazing video! that last bit really hit home, as I don't have a theme. It feels like everyone has a theme, and that an island has to have an elaborate theme to be cool, but my island is whatever the heck I want it to be. And I love the ideas. Literally just yesterday I remembered this inspiration tips video I saw online and went and pulled a few things out of storage (a hammock, book, fan thing, and grabbed a candle from my nooks. found an empty spot next to a river/waterfall, Slapped down two cedar trees and two custom designs, put the hammock in between them and put the other stuff around it. boom it's a build.

I haven't started it yet, but real life locations are the main inspiration for what might be my first build ^^ In my country we have a lot of small seaside towns and villages lined with pretty pastel buildings and I love this look ^^ Really want to make an area like that ^^

Some really great ideas here, I'm trying to do a Greek Olympian sort of theme for my island and my inspiration for that was Disney's Hercules which is my favorite Disney animated film. Some of the furniture I want isn't available until later since I'm not that far ahead in the game.

I get most inspired by real life nature photos and other people. I also noticed when you trying to think of something solely from you brain and you are just starting, you can remind yourself that it can look strange until you finish, so don't be discouraged by it, just keep going and it will grow on you 💚💚

I feel like I’ve found good ways to make builds on my island! I think having the same color of a bunch of similar items helps some! I designated color areas on my beaches. For example, I have a blue area with some tropical stuff and beachy furniture, and a purple area!

I am someone who likes to make open paths on the island. I mean I really don't like narrow pathways and I don't like it when villagers block your way when you have no way of getting out of their path. I make diagonal paths with the cliffs and ground. I always make sure to make where the paths will go and they follow the pacing of where it leads too so it doesn't become so complicated to figure what where you're supposed to go. Navigation is something people don't seem to focus on. You need to put like signs to show where places are and how to get there so that way when you are doing a Tour the people who visit your island won't get lost all the time.

When you were going through your storage I saw all the little puppy plushies and it reminded me of a time on a farm that I visited that the dog gave birth to puppies. I’m doing a farm core island and I want to recreate that. It also gave me the idea that if I don’t want to go that route, I want to do a little gift shop on the farm or like stuffed toys of then animals, like dogs, maybe pandas, dinosaurs from the museum, etc. like the Christmas toys!! Another tip if you have to pick a theme, try something that is really broad! E.g. my island is Rainbowcore, and pretty much anything can be made to fit that by getting lots of colour variations and such.

tip for cottagecore - keep it natural! clutter sometimes looks great, but don’t overdo it. and try not to design ‘til a burnout, go with the flow, don’t force your inner designer!

i start with themes for my villagers houses. for example, lucky has a spooky halloween black and white theme, custom floors etc. zell has a balck and white little ranch theme ... judy and julian are neighbors with a galaxy theme. once i do those, i shape everything else around it. hope that helps!
