This is Ali, one of my incredible students from my recent STAGE communication workshop. He's an excellent communicator, but one of his biggest challenges is his volume.
I'm sure many of you can relate to this - without volume, we lack clarity and belief in what we say. It's the lifeblood of our voice!
If you're ready to learn how to master your communication skills join me at my upcoming in-person workshop!

All my life, especially in class, I’ve struggled with speaking loud enough for people to hear me. And even when I think I’m almost screaming, people still tell me they can’t hear me. I guess I really do need to almost scream and I’ve just been afraid of sounding stupid because I tend to be shy, even if I’m confident in what I’m trying to say. So thank you so much for this. God bless you ❤

I love this video. I went to the dentist recently and the dental assistant was very soft spoken and low volume. I could barely understand her and she had an accent. Also there is a time and place for louder speaking such as public speaking events. If you are in a restaurant probably not the best place to be speaking loudly.

It’s not about loudness, it’s about pitch of one’s voice. If you have a bass or a bass-baritone timbre , your voice interferes with background noise. To overcome it, you need to increase the pitch of your voice. Getting louder is one of the ways. To know other ways you can learn singing

This is oddly similar to how it works when starting with singing. If you're not used to hearing you "singing voice" - which is different from you "normal voice" - it'll sound wierd *to you*. However, if you practice singing you'll grow more comfortable with your "singing voice" - and eventually understand that your voice is great!

The biggest tip that I found that helped me a lot with this was off of WikiHow, and this is what it said: "Make your voice bigger. Some people think of projecting their voice as pushing to make it louder, but that only causes strain to your vocal cords, exacerbating the problem. Instead, you want to make your voice larger.[10] When pushing your voice to project, you'll feel strain in your throat as you do after yelling. When making your voice bigger, you'll feel your chest doing the work.[11] Imagine that your throat and mouth are huge, as big as the room you're speaking in. This will help the muscles inside your throat pull away and relax as they do when you yawn, so a bigger voice can emerge." When I consciously do this, my voice instantly becomes louder. There is also the other tip of speaking and breathing from your diaphragm instead of your chest. You'll find many videos on how to do this, but the easiest way I found to speak from your diaphragm is to consciously contract and tense your stomach muscles when you speak like you do when you're exercising, and when you breathe in, you breathe lower into your stomach instead of into your chest. If you breathe correctly into your stomach, you'll feel your stomach rising when you inhale and not your chest.

Hi Vinh, how does your presenting voice differ from your conversational voice? Do you intentionally add in the occasional "umms" and "ahhhs" to make yourself sound more natural and not too perfect? Would appreciate a reply 🙌🙌
@marzoval9551
@marzoval9551 Жыл бұрын
Umms and ahhhs doesn't mean "natural". It's merely a habit. Just because most people do it, and it's largely harmless in conversation, doesn't mean you should force yourself to do it too. If people judge you for speaking too "perfect", that's their responsibility.
