Glad you did this video I don’t mess with zoas or palys at all because of palytoxin

As a lazy ass reefer when im fragging zoas my ultimate tip is do the fraggiing inside a body of water....like a small container....the zoas being submerged cant squirt me and if they slime I have water in my work space or same tub to rinse slimy fingers off....grant it you still need to take precautions when pulling out to glue down but during the actual snapping of the disks or rock that zoas are on I will do it under water....then typically do have some ppe on when I start gluing

Make sure the cartridges in those masks are rated for VOCs, not just dust.

8 years ago I was cleaning my tank and I had some green polyps and I thought the slime and since I have contact lens I touched my eyes and had to rush to the hospital to get them flushed for hours!!

I am completely new to corals and all that but I’m going to soon be upgrading to a 90 gallon reef tank I’m going to set up. Might sound dumb but do I have to worry about anything when gluing corals onto rocks and stuff before putting them on and I am not even sure if I am supposed to do the gluing inside the water or outside the water 😂 Another probably more important question is how long can corals stay out of the water before it’s no good

I’m curious how often the toxins came from true zoanthus species versus palythoas. I’ve heard that both can carry the toxin, but have only dealt with true zoas in the past (which I did not frag)

I was thinking about get corals myself and start up a business, I had know idea they can be that dangerous

Thanks, Travis very informative . I stay away from zoas for that particular reason I fear exposure to palytoxin . Are there any other toxic corals in your experience that we should be careful with ?

Good PSA. I know and follow your advice, but have never been 100% abiding. Def plan on being a little more careful after your vid. Also, watch out for Arctic Ice Palys, the teal ones. Practically reef herpes that are hard to eradicate, not special to look at and are very likely to make you sick. I know 2 people, including and MD who've been palytoxed by these.

Damn. F around and find out. I guess I need a mask for my gryphon saw. Not trying to give the hospital more money.
