Autism diagnosis age 61, this explains so much, and yes had a few appointments discussing risks and benefits. Has greatly improved my quality of life. I have learned to ask for accommodations. And not everything was MDD, TRD, but MDD with autistic “burnout”. And another physical condition that was lost in the noise of the grief and losses was unveiled during the life review for the autism assessment. Yes I am an information seeker and I find lack of information more damaging than too much. I have seen first hand with myself and friends and family where it is assumed you can not handle the truth leading to loss of control in choices and quality of life and trust in the system. Recently diagnosed with ASD at 38 I felt for the first I understood myself. Even if there isn’t really a ‘treatment’ (not sure I would want it if there was) Having an explanation allowed me to be kinder to myself, explain where anxiety comes from and generally made my life better just by knowing.

No. Doctors should have to give me ALL of my information unless I am under the guardianship of someone else. So, if I am demented and my children are my caregivers, then I wouldn’t expect my dr to give me that info. Other than that, I should have all the information about myself no matter what that information is.

A doctor that knows the truth but doesn't tell their patients the truth is lying to their patient, and unless the patient explicitly states they don't want to know the truth, that's malpractice. It gets morally murky where they're not certain of the truth, as to how much they tell their patient. I'd say if they believe at least a 50% chance they've got it right, they should at least inform their patient they suspect there is that issue. Note: the percentage may vary based on the nature of the situation.
