Bill Clinton's behavior is a separate issue to Pete's nomination. If what you say about Mr. Kane is true, it would make him a hypocrite. The allegations against Pete, if true, and they appear to have merit, should cause him to be unworthy of the office. If “abuse” is defined as cheating on one’s spouse, then the letter is irrelevant and language is being used that doesn’t fit with the facts. Him staying faithful to his significant other has nothing to do with his ability to lead the military. Kaine also mentioned an anonymous source and proceeded to use that as a reason to mention the Capitol riots. To top all of that off, Tim Kaine is a politician. All of these factors make it difficult for me to take anything he is saying at face value. I’m aware of the SA case that was referenced and the charge was dubious at best. There is a reason that charges were not pressed. The fact that he settled a civil case only tells me that he didn’t want to go through the hassle of a trial. The standards to be found liable in a civil case is much less than the standards required to prosecute a person. He would have been going into a trial where “he said, she said” could have easily been enough for him to be found liable. I don’t have a feeling one way or the other about Hegseth for SecDef. He may be completely wrong for the job. If he is that wrong for the job, I would definitely like to know, but based on his lack of merit for the position, not based on character attacks that are obviously being pushed because the Hegseth is Trump’s nominee or because he doesn’t fit in with the establishment. So far the only relevant thing I have heard about in regards to Hegseth is that a large number of troops came to Washington on his behalf, showing me that the people who will be most affected by the appointment feel that he is a good choice.

The Senator makes this 24-minute tirade in an empty chamber. He raises issues with documents that would not stand up in a court of law due to the fact they are second-hand hearsay. The record that is not second-hand is the noble way Pete conducted himself in his military career. His career has been stellar. He has degrees from outstanding American universities. In a court of law, defendants are afforded the benefit of the doubt. Not one person with first-hand knowledge of the Senator's laundry list of allegations has come forward and offered sworn testimony. Just one with second-hand feelings. A letter between mother and son is referenced. Parents will often overstate an issue to help guide a loved child to take corrective action. Those letters or conversations are private and should be considered confidential. Im sure his mother would have used a different tone had she known the private letter would be used in this malice way. I have listened to what was said in the hearing and these rants in an empty chamber, and my opinion is unchanged. Mr. Hegsath demonstrates military leadership, and his military records reflect his abilities.
