This cover of the Wailers that Eric did brought Bob Marley to the attention of a lot more people around the world. Jamaica was a previous British colony with ties to England so Reggae reached England and Eric covered this and the world took notice.

This is true, there’s an interview with Marley where he says that because of Eric he became famous overnight. Eric brought not only the blues but reggae to the light to people who never heard it.

I totally agree. The bass was excellent. This is one of the best Clapton performances I've seen, guitar and vocally. As many drugs as Clapton did in his younger days, it's a wonder that his career has been so long and so excellent.

I do feel lucky to have been turned on to Clapton at an early age, which of course turned me on to Marley, JJ Cale and numerous blues greats. After all these years i still listen to all of it. Great music easily stands the test of time.

I was 13 in 1970 and have very diverse taste, including blues! I saw Clapton in 78? Slow Hand Tour. Been to many concerts. Live music is my oxygen lol I've seen Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat and Stanley Clarke to name a few.. .. I'm more of a rock chick too Just love great music ❤

Killer guitar solo! Eric Clapton scored a hit with "I Shot The Sheriff" in 1974. I remember one of my older cousins goofing around singing the chorus one summer back then. We had no idea at the time who Bob Marley was much less that reggae music existed. We were kids afterall. That was before The Police, but after Paul Simon and Led Zeppelin infused reggae into a couple of their songs and Johnny Nash took "I Can See Clearly Now" to number one. I figured out who Bob Marley was by the time Blondie took "Tide Is High" to number one half a decade or so later.

I Shot the Sheriff" by Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley and released in 1973. Clapton loved it so much he recorded it in 1974, and it became a #1 hit. Clapton's international fame helped bring reggae to a wide (white) world audience. Bob Marley and The Wailers sold millions of albums (I Know, I have them all), with "Live' and 'Babylon By Bus' (also a live album) at the top of my list. Clapton loved all types of world music and styles. Thanks as always, Big Soul Biz.

I got to see him during a blues tour in '94 in Indy. Jimmie Vaughn opened. It was great! May I recommend the "greatest guitarist you've never heard of," Roy Buchanan. Try his version of Hey Joe from '76. It'll knock your socks off. He died young.

Can never forget seeing Bob Marley play this in his London Rainbow set so to be honest, nothings going to come close to that. This EC version has definitely got soul and gospel running through it's veins, staying true to the original. Thanks for the playing this.

Clapton, Marley and Cale all kinda merged into my life at once. I'd heard Bob b4 this became popular. My sis was a travel agent way back in 80s and she took her 1st cruise, stopping in Jamaica, she fell in love with Reggae and the culture, she went just to the island 3 different times in 80s, immersed herself, so I learned from her, Jimmy Cliff, Bunny Wailer and Bob. When Eric came out with this...😯 And then the entire "After Midnight" album, my ears nourishment. Saw him 3 different times...incredible!! ❤🔥🥳
