So glad I waited till I had a moment to pay attention to watch this. Loved how a clearly over-worked/bored freighter pilot reacted to naming yet another random planet. Then the encounter with some strange space entity having her go from controlled panic to pure bliss as she listens to it's song. It's a shame tech has to reboot & send her back to work. one time I was below at the chart table when a pod of dolphins showed up, all the usual clicky-whistly chatter, then much much louder and sounding like it was aimed through the hull right at me, I got the "hey you whistle" WEE-oo-WEET! (you know, the opposite of the wolf whistle WEET-WEEoo) so I went up in the cockpit and the dolphins started doing this crazy lightshow in the phosphorescence, lots of wild splashy jumps, it was super-spectacular but for me the best bit was that I am absolutely sure that a dolphin deliberately invited me personally in the only human sound he could make to say "HEY! Very nice film. Brought back a memory of when I was hunting a deer all alone in the mesquite brush in south Texas. Went out way before dawn to get to my blind and got set up as I didn't want to scare anything or want any deer to see me. As I was waiting, the whole area started to come alive. I had done this many times before but this time it seemed different. Still dark, but getting a little light before dawn broke, birds were waking up and singing all over the place, saw a bobcat leisurely strolling near a fence line. There was just a little fog to make it a little more interesting. Sun was still not breaking through. Just then, a deer walked into the feeding area where I was gonna take it down. For some reason, I didn't shoot it and just watched it for the longest time. I was just enjoying the moment. After the deer left, about ~15 minutes, I just packed it up and went back to camp....happy. The sun finally broke through too.

@todd and @wladimir, I think you are missing the point. This for me was a welcome change from the current trends of “tell a complex story as fast as you can / layer upon layer of storylines / louder, better, faster”. The great thing about this is that there was no explanation of what the phenomenon was. As an example, the scariness and horror of the early “Alien” films drew on the fact that humankind had no idea where it had come from, and the story did not explain; this amplified the effect. Sadly, Ridley Scott (as great as he is) felt the need to explain the alien’s origin story in Prometheus and Covenant, which took a lot of the suspense away rather than adding anything. I hope you see my point.
@GoodForYou45042 жыл бұрын

I absolutely loved this gem of a short from DUST & Tom Saville. The only thing that would have been nice to have happen, would be if the pilot could have rotated her ship to physically have seen the anomaly rather than just seeing a sensor interpretation. With her travelling through space, it could have something that no human had ever seen before. Therefore making her journey more of a one of a kind journey, rather than just a one off trip through the stars. But in the end, I still really enjoyed it. Thank you to all involved.
