big 🥺 energy when he spoke about taking the food to school and trying to cover the smell it reminded me of something a friend of mine once said. they are from southeast asia and never used utensils growing up, just used their hands to eat. they had a traumatic memory shortly after moving to the UK, going to an english school for the first time and using their hands to eat which prompted other kids to stare and make fun of them, and after that they only ever used utensils in public, even now. it makes me sad that my friend, Steven, and others are made to feel ashamed of their cultures when in other countries and feel like they have to hide it. BUT it made me so happy to see him so proud cooking these dishes, using chopsticks/hands to eat, and just generally celebrating their food and culture, they looked so comfortable and happy :) i love this show because it’s so wholesome and i’m always learning about different foods and cultures, Stephen’s love of Asian food is contagious and it makes this very white english gal want to try making them too!! I learnt very quickly that I had to taste as I go, and so, you end up with the "sense" and "feeling" of when it is right. Rely on the power of your ancestors.....

Watching Steven and his parents interact brought a tear to my eye. If all parents have the same relationship with their kids as this family the world would be a different place.

I straight up cried watching this - sooooo very precious. Also was shocked to realize Steven is a lefty! I can’t believe it took me so long to notice. What a lovely way to honor your parents and your heritage!

Clicked like even before finishing watching the whole thing because I know I'm gonna like it. Steven cooking the nasi lemak and rendang made me realize, that yes, Malaysian cooking is labor intensive. His kitchen looks like how my kitchen usually look like when I cook rendang. My mom taught me to just blend the stuff though because she ain't got no time for all the hassle haha.

It’s episodes like this that brought me to subscribe to Watcher and I just love how much heart and soul this man puts into his episodes-he is making the world a better place one episode at a time ❤️🩹

Wow I love how embracing and showing of love his parents are! Idk if all Malaysian parents are more like this, but it stands out in much of Asian communities….in a great way. They seem so lovely! ❤️❤️

This is my first time watching Dish Granted, and I never expected to tear up at the pure sincerity and wholesomeness of it all. But don't think I didn't notice that, when they were eating, the same music as Believe Me Maizie from the Hotdaga was playing in the background. I am cursed to recognise it always

16:13 Oh Adam Liaw! He's a celebrity chef here in Australia (he won MasterChef) and he's just such a genuinely nice guy. He really matches the vibe of Dish Granted, and it’s the little details like that that really make this show!

His parents are my favorite guests of all time. There's that familial love and sweetness, yeah, but they're also more charismatic and funny than any of his other guests. This is the episode I keep coming back to.
