Unofficial request/petition to have Byron’s mom come onto the podcast as a guest. It’s always interesting to hear her viewpoint compared to Byron’s and has some of the most fascinating perspectives when it comes to talking about theme park rides

That would be so sweet. I’d love to see it. I think that would be great for days when it’s only the two of them. They could bring her or Ryan’s brother to get some extra perspective.

I havent written before cause im never sure if people actually see comments on here but i just needed to say that this podcast - and all of the Watcher videos and podcasts - are so engaging and truly fun and refreshing - a lot of that has to do with Ryan who is absolutely peerless in the energy, honesty and unpretentious charm he brings to all of them - but also to Byron with his shaggy dog enthusiasm and Shane, the epitome of laconic irony. I am a theatre director and filmmaker, but most important, a total Disney theme park nerd, passionate foodie and lover of all things ghost and bigfoot related and watching and sharing time with all of you really makes my day so much brighter and more enjoyable. So even if you dont see this, thanks so much for all you do to make KZbin a happier and less plastic place.

My wife and I came back from Disneyland last night and while we were in line for Rise, the ride broke down. We received free lighting lane passes and decided to use it on either Rise or Indy. As much as we love Rise, we ultimately chose Indy and didn't regret our decision after we rode it. We've ridden Indy numerous times, and yet no matter how many times we've been on it, it's always a blast! Yes, it breaks down a lot but that's part of the experience for Indy lol. It's nearly 30 years old and yet one of the best rides in the resort. For me, Rise really depends on surprises and big reveals and after awhile, it doesn't have that same magic or same amazement you get the first time you rode it, imo. Dont get me wrong, it's still one of the best rides of all time. But so is Indy.

This passion project sparks so much joy and is a wonderful, essential contribution to the coasterhead community. I really hope that this podcast gets the long lifetime that it deserves. I look forward to an episode on Tower of Terror. I'm a massive 20,000 Leagues fan and would be thrilled if you covered Les Mystères du Nautilus one day; maybe there could be a special episode going over some walk-through attractions? Big love to Ryan, Byron, Sophia, and Matt

For the falling ice effect, I think I remember hearing someone saying that it is to get a smoking debris effect you would see if you broke a chunk of stone and have it fall apart. I think it was supposed to be dry ice, and not water ice to get the desired effect, but the temperature draws in moisture out of the air which created the conditions to cause rust.

On my last trip to Disneyland Indy broke down right in front of the last scene and we had to be evacuated. When I rode the next day the ride had to be stopped because a foolish guest dropped their giant hat on the tracks (I know since it was the car in front of us), though they let us go through twice more in a row to compensate. Did I still queue up again even after all that? You bet!

@@kyannareevesIt was about the misrepresentation of Archaeology/ Archaeologists in media. I was supposed to write about the Films but I wrote about the ride instead. I got to look into the cultural inspiration for the ride like the inspiration of Mara and the structure of the temple. Also the ride lore taking place after the events of Temple of Doom (cause it’s set in India) It’s a class on debunking Pseudoscience it’s a lot of fun.

Pilot here: When airplanes are certified for commercial passenger use they are required to be able to evacuate everyone within 90 seconds as the likelihood of higher death tolls increase after that amount of time on a burning plane. So all these requirements around takeoff and landing about not leaning back, unplugging your phones, and having tray table are all to ensure that nothing will impede people’s ability to evacuate because seconds count! Basically everything in the flight attendants preflight announcements/ video have to do with saving lives so make sure to pay attention! Hope that helps!

So back in 2019 my friends and I went on this ride and the ride broke down near the boulder and it was pitch black and the music and sound went out as well. We were sitting like this for a couple of minutes and I knew we were close to the boulder but couldn’t tell how close we were to the drop. Turns out we we right at the drop because the lights were still off but the music kicked in and we just dropped into the darkness which is way more scarier than seeing a boulder coming at you 😂

Love the ride. It was awesome riding it as a teenager in the 90s. You did miss a bad though - Painted Plywood in the Dart Room! It always looks so cheap compared to the rest of the ride. The DisneySEA version has sculpted relief faces seen earlier in the queue that blow compressed air at you before the giant skull smoke ring. I always hope they could replace the plywood at Disneyland for a stone-like wall with sculpted elements.

My family had carried an annual Disneyland trip tradition since I was born. When I was old enough to ride Indiana Jones it became a regular tradition to start our trip with Indy, and end it with Indy. That’s right. From rope drop, until the very last minute that we’re able to get on any ride it was always Indy. My parents aren’t together and our annual traditions ended as well. But when my own daughter is of age, I hope to carry that tradition. I will always love the sounds, smells, visuals and rough and ragged terrain of that wonderful ride. I’ll recite Sala’s instructions and words of caution to a T, I truly feel at home when I ride that ride!!!

My favorite Indiana Jones ride memory is Grad Nite, I'm in the front row and behind me sits my classmate who has an amazing, operatic voice. He starts singing along with the choir sections of the soundtrack and gave us basically a live accompaniment to the ride. I didn't realize it was him singing at first since he melded in with the actual soundtrack so well.

Man how cool would it be if they employed some sort of eye tracking tech at the beginning of the ride so that if everyone in your vehicle actually didn’t look into the eyes or Mara, you’d get a different (but equally cool) ride experience in some way. I could just imagine families coming off the ride being like, “dang it, we all decided we weren’t going to look into the eyes of Mara this time, which one of you did it?!” and some stinker little brother just keeps looking into the eyes and messing it up for everyone else every time they ride lmao

This ride so perfectly captured what I wanted out of a ride as a kid-- Indiana Jones, ancient temple, wild effects, giant snakes, secret codes to decipher, amazing retro tomb rob-- er, archeological aesthetic. I was obsessed with the movies as a kid and convinced I'd never get to see it, but I got the chance to visit last year and that thing managed to live up to almost a decade and a half of hype. I've only been on it three times (because I immediately hopped on again and made us go back later) but honestly I'm with Ryan, probably my favorite ride ever.

That is so weird that they'd get John Rhys-Davies's likeness and not his voice, especially considering I'm pretty sure they got him for a promo for the attraction that aired on the Disney Channel around the time the attraction came out. As a DL attractions cast member regarding wait times, depending on how much of the queue is being used and/or how many vehicles are in use, that means a certain wait. Also wait times might not be inflated, theres just a consistent flow into the queue and there's not that many guests in the lightning lane so you can really move the standby lane! If its really busy and the lightning lane is looking too long (Indiana Jones LL is over the pirate bridge & holiday mansion LL is in critter country) the standby wait will definitely be inflated!

The bamboo pole is still there, and the ceiling still moves down when activated. The system just needs to reset itself, which takes about 5 minutes. And since the lines move pretty fast once inside the building, chances are someone already pulled it. I was there yesterday and was able to activate the pool.

So my first Disneyland trip was in 2018, when I was 23, for a day with my mom as a stop on a larger road trip. We’d been to WDW when I was a child, but never Disneyland, so this was new. We saw the “rough ride” signage and warnings in the spiel but the ride was ROUGH. We were being slung around and shaken and it was the harshest ride ever. I’ve been back half a dozen times since but I think either our car that day was on the verge of a breakdown or they’d sped up the ride to churn through the crowd right after a breakdown because it was NEVER that bad again

I've been to the SEA version! I'll never forget it, because while standing outside a small child looked up at my towering gaijin self and started to cry.
