Well done you did a fine job and treated that old Tissot with proper respect. These old timepieces have to be serviced on their own terms so 30 seconds per day is an excellent result. Besides, there is no-one left alive who worked on them when they were new!

Nice work. Not a week ago I just finished a teardown of a Tissot "Antimagnetique" myself although it has a center seconds sweep hand (27-2T) instead of the sub second your project featured. Serial Number puts it at 1948. The balance shaft needed replacing, as did the mainspring but all in all it came out gorgeous.

I am also a craftsman, but I am a mason/bricklayer, these little engines have always fascinated me, I love watches and clocks.

@Watcheyes
@Watcheyes 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Walther, nice to have you here. Broken screws can be very hard to extract, I got lucky on this one, but put some oil on it first, let say Moebius 9010, let it sink, then try a broken stake or something that fits so it can "fill" the broken part of the screw, hope it goes better next time =). Thank you for the kind comment Walther, have a good day.

ah yes the classic when a part pings off from tweezer... when I saw you send the broken screw to fly I immediately had flash back of my pain, I was trying to hold the sweep pinion with my tweezer and oil it before putting it back to the movement but ping, ok stay calm dont get panic, I spend 2 hours after searching for it but nope. It went to a different dimension. Atleast I was able to order replacement part...
@Watcheyes
@Watcheyes 3 жыл бұрын
Haha yes this is pain. I actually needed to measure the size of this broken screw but I couldn't find it. Had to test a couple of screws in the hole to find a replacement. Someday we will have the right touch in the tweezer :D

@lottaleijon6654 2 жыл бұрын
Its really helps if you shape your tweezers correctly if you want to avoid that. Don’t know how to describe, but you might be able to google it. Otherwise ask a watchmaker. And a robot vacuum cleaner with magnetic strip underneath is perfect when you lost a screw :)

Hello Cris, thank you very much. I dont know if it's the same watch then. This dial has some value in its history I think. So if it's going to look like new you scrape it to bare metall and repaint it I guess. But it's possible to do in other ways also I guess. I'm not expert on this :)

I have exactly the same watch by design and look of the dial, hands and the casing, event the shape of letters engraved on the back are identical. I use it occasionally. The only difference is that the name is 'Athos' - it was my first wristwatch I got from my parents back in 1972. I wonder whether they first manufactured Tissots and when the tools wore down a bit they still produced identically looking but lower class product?
@Watcheyes
@Watcheyes 3 жыл бұрын
What a great story Grzegorz, thank you for sharing it! Maybe there was some rebranding of Tissot, some watches back in the days could be ordered in catalogues (post order), maybe this was something like that. It is a Tissot but another brand who's selling it. But that's just a guess. Lovely watch, cool that you've had it for that long, great story.

oh boy, these movements have given me so much grief! I worked on like three of those, and all of them had problems: the plates/bridges are alumnium, so the steel screws get absolutely stuck in them over the years, the cap jewel plate screws were broken in the same way as yours on two out of three, and the hairsprings are so fragile that they sometimes get bent at the regulator arm by just removing the balance as usual. also, I'm honestly surprised the mainspring in yours was the modern S-shape - all of mine had the blue "kanelbullar".
@_f355
@_f355 2 жыл бұрын
I've also thought how good it would be to dip the aluminium plates in the (very) dilute hydrochloric acid to remove all the staining, but our nanny state does not allow regular people to buy "dangerous chemicals"...

Hello Sir, thank you for watching my video and I'm very happy that you found it entertaining. First of every part is cleaned with tooth picks, rodico, brush with some gasoline (chemical clean). Then the parts is dipped into gasoline, for maybe 1 h, depends on amount of dirt. Later on every part is double dipped in 2 separate bath of IPA (new IPA), not the balance and the pallet fork. After each cleaning step every part needs to be blown dry. Later inspect all parts, jewels needs to be shiny like a mirror, inspect with atleast 30x microscope, prefer 45x+. A rough explanation :).

You want an ultrasonic cleaner? Oh, and also I noticed one of the wheels has been repaired in the past.

No thank you, thats fine :), kind of you to ask. Aha! Which wheel? That is interesting to hear. If I remember correctly I think one wheel might have changed before, a totaly different wheel but it "works".

Great work. Can you tell me the manufacturer of your mainspring winder?

Good day Rusty, this is not branded so I don't now what manufacturer it is from. It's a old vintage tool, have seen it sometimes on eBay. Have a good day.

I'm curious, what made the watch anti magnetic?

I tried to see if anyone asked in the comments already with no joy, so please tell me what the main spring winding tool with that plate you used. I have looked for one like that online but can't find it. Only thing I find it the individual winders... Love your video, beautiful watch and restoration.

Hello Robert, Glad you liked my video, thank you very much! The winder is an old one, no brand. But sometimes I have seen it on ebay, it's not that expensive. I inherited it so.
One day.. 🙌
