Having Gunny back has been important to give forward line experience. With Punky playing as the tactical sub Gunny is taking the senior role up forward and doing a great job. His ledger looks much better after today's outing. Before today he had 4 goals 12 behinds I believe....His 4 top quality goals today makes that 8 goals, 13 behinds. Much better. Lewis needs to come in with form and help out as an extra tall option. Chol is doing a great job but we need more height to challenge the big defensive sides of: Melbourne, Geelong, Carlton, Essendon, Freo and Sydney...oh, and GWS. I'm super keen on Cam McKenzie as a player. He's improving every time he plays. Newk, Worps, Daysy and Nash did well today. Didldo(Dylan Moore) is a freaking super star. Tough as nails and I loved seeing him bloodied up two weeks in a row and he reminded me of Lethal Leigh all bloodied up at Princes Park back in the day. I notice he's not getting any frees for those head knocks though. Isn't the head sacrosanct?? Weddle, Scrimshaw, Sicily, CJ, D'Ambrosio, Seamus Mitchell, Frosty and Amon and Impey did really well with their rebounding disposals today. Except, of course, for the Sicily handball straight to the Lions player for a goal. Oops!! Lots to like and look forward to.

Probably what impressed me most about the game was the the fact that we didn't really blaze away going inside 50. It's been a tendency of the club over the last few years, but Impey and Worpel, etc. were able to lower their eyes and hit leading targets almost with impunity. There is a place for the long bomb to the top of the square, but I'm glad it wasn't the only plan this week.

The hawks have a lot of ground to cover before that is possible this year. They'll need to win the majority of their remaining games, and rely on results to get there. But they are learning
@gwilkes53256 ай бұрын
Hawks could finish with a max of 16 wins 💀 but let’s just say there is a possibility, and that 12 wins is the entry mark for finals. They’d need a draw or a spare win because of their poor percentage. What that means is they could only lose 3 games from here. They play Richmond twice, north again and west coast at Optus, so 4-0 hopefully They also play the giants twice, pies, Geelong at Kardinia, Crows twice and Freo. Could definitely beat the crows, taken it up to the pies, took it up to the Giants last year and Geelong are actually vulnerable at home this year. Dockers seem to beat the Hawks no matter their form, feel like it’s an almost certain loss. I could definitely see them winning each game, but they probably won’t tie them all together. Hopeful for a 11+ wins

Once again Sam Mitchell proves his 'automatic lead defense game plan' doesn't work. 8 mins left in the 2nd quarter, he shifts into defensive mode, Hawks up by 30pts....but we were heading to the main break only 18pts up due to three late goals kicked by Bris because the attacking plan was thrown out the window. Our late consolation goal was pure luck. Then we see it, Mitchell's silly defensive mindset, in all its glory, all out defensive play for the first 25 mins of the third quarter and Brisbane took full advantage. Sicily after the match said "we didn't want to play that 'full defense style' and went back to our running, attacking brand...and we got the win!". The Long Sleeved Captain doesn't like that defensive mindset crap, the members and supporters don't like it. Why does Sam Mitchell believe he knows best and heads to it so often? Last week it cost us a win. This week the on field leaders Sicily et al didn't follow that script and, "Hey Presto!" we have another four points. In 2010, sitting low on the ladder with a 1-6 record, Hodge, Sewell, Burgoyne and Lewis(maybe Birch as well) went to Al Clarkson and told him they weren't going to play the 'Cluster' anymore. Every other team had it worked out and we were getting flogged. At the time I knew we were better than that record and the TAB had us at 15-1 to make the finals. I put a lazy $100 on us making the eight and was laughed out of the place....they remembered my face when I came to collect at regular seasons end. The point is, senior players can tell the coach that their style of coaching isn't suiting the team and their talents. Sam Mitchell has cost us games over the last two years by going defensive waaaaay too early in games. He needs to let the on field leaders dictate the play. I know he's our senior coach but he's inexperienced. Time will tell if he can deliver a winning record. So far I see what he's done and scratch my head. Nick Watson, a 168cm small forward taken at pick 5?!? We need talls down back and up forward. We are a work in progress but our coach isn't helping by recruiting midgets. I'll be happy if Watson becomes a player akin to Poppy, Cyril or Punky but I just don't see that spark of skill or talent in him. Early days, I know but the three fellas I mention are three of the best small forwards ever to play in the league let alone the Brown and Gold. Glad for the win. Keep up the attacking style' of play and we may rise further up the ladder this year and kick some big scores. BTW: When is Mitchell Lewis going to turn up and play a full season?
