Honestly makes me so thankful Dark got to finish it's story. :( Baran and Jantje have a deal with Netflix to make another show as far as I remember. I wonder how enthusiastic they are about that now and what their plans are.

I absolutely adore Aneurin Barnard, who plays Daniel. He's been one that I've watched since the White Queen and I'm so happy he was part of this show so more people were introduced to him. I just wish we'd gotten to see the story continued.

RIP to what could've been...I feel like most people gave up on it because it is a slow paced show but because I watched Dark and knew what to expect, I was fully into the story-telling and pacing because it added to the mystery. I'm so tired of Netflix continuously cancelling shows after ONE season. Also happy to see you uploading again! Missed your commentary :)

Agree, i think it's important to watch dark first to understand their creative process because then you get used to the pacing and how the information is given. I had no problem with any of it because i knew they would make it make sense in the end but now I'll never know the ending

Yes! Ben Frost also did the Soundtrack / Score for "DARK" ! btw. DARK is my favorite Show,too and i`m so pissed that Netflix canceld "1899" 😵 I think 1899 was on a good way to become as good as Dark...

Right now, Netflix has a documentary on the making of 1899. Is really worth watching. The sound stage uses a giant screen called The Volume. The green beetle resembles a green June bug beetle. We use to catch them during the summer as children, but over time they disappeared. Probably due to residential development. The black growing crystals represent the simulation program being corrupt.

Great reaction. I too was gutted. Like Dark, I thought the performance of the boy who plays Eliot was superb. In a way, it reminded me of DARK and how well Ellie was portrayed. Great to see the marvellous Andreas again. Love the guy.

Many thought this was painfully slow. People have no attention span these days. They'd rather watch an action movie with no story so they can scroll their phone at the same time.

1899 gave me vibes of every single big piece of film or TV that has questioned reality. Inception included obviously. I think they referenced all of them, and yet I have no clue which one is the most similar/correct. With 2 more seasons intended there's no way the simulation reveal is anywhere near the endpoint, like how from the end of Dark season 1 there was no way to predict season 2's finale, and from season 2 no prediction of season 3. And once they said reality isn't what you think it is, we'd never trust any reality they would present.

Nic , am still recovering from the journey of managing to find proper subtitles for this epic show. But the stress was SO WORTH the revelations .... Episode 7 is still the most wonderful of the lot - for how it rewards you - I have never researched a subject like PLATOS CAVE so much - to know it has parallels with Cube , the Truman Show , Dark City and Baudrillard - MIND COMPLETELY BLOWN. I completely LOVED it

The one thing I love about the show apart from the story is the visuals. The fact it’s all shot on this “realistic green screen” it’s so stunning. Curse you netflix for not giving us another season.

The cancellation of this show still has me incredibly mad and confused. I can't believe I'll never know what this show would've become, specially after knowing what they did with dark. Also you're so right about Daniel and Olek, my favorites by far

Bo and Jantje are so good in giving every viewer (who pays a bit of attention) those "What the F did i say! I called it!" moments. How can a streaming service not trust their vision, after having been delivered "Dark"? One hand doesn't seem to know what the other is doing at Netflix. The show only really makes sense after the full three seasons, before that, it's something for the viewer to figure out (which is lots of fun). Of course such a format puts some people off and you probably won't see the best numbers at first, like a lot of people may stop watching because they think it's too confusing or whatever... but a Bo and Jantje series demands to be completed! You have other shows that bring in big numbers, and you have to support shows like this as well. As a streaming service, if you make the viewing stats your one and only indicator for keeping a show or cancelling it, you're doing yourself a disservice. It's like a restaurant, you have 400 orders a month for meat, but only 40 for fish. Clearly it's not worthwhile to keep fish on the menu, so you cancel it. At some point your menu will only have variations of the same stuff and you will have no chance of expanding your customer base anymore. Dark and 1899 are some of the most intricate and delecious content they have on the whole service. Now they got more budget left to put into the next season of Stranger Things, i guess. A couple episodes of that could've paid for the other two seasons of 1899...

I really like Emily Beecham (watch "Daphne"), and Pietschmann was great, too. Once the big reveal came, I was definitely more invested in the series. But I still wanted to fast forward or some of the characters as their story lines were of no real interest to me. I don't recall ever wanting to do that with "Dark". Also, this idea of people volunteering or intentionally seeking out a way to forget their past or some great pain in their life already used more successfully in another series and in movies.

I don't know if they were offered a smaller budget for season 2 and 3. It seems that they should at least have the chance to make a lower budget show since if the huge budget of season 1 was the reason for Netflix canceling the show. Has anyone heard of a monetary offer that was refused?

Terrible decision of Netflix on cancelling season 2 of this show. I felt the same anger when Netflix cancelled the 3rd season of the O.A.

I will literally never forgive Netflix for cancelling 1899. I think they realized that they couldn't capitalize on product placements like with other shows. The characters would look pretty silly promoting the newest designer handbag, or ordering a McBaguette for lunch. However, you'd think they make enough from the shows they DO have relentless product placements on to be able to afford to keep a show like 1899 for at least ONE more season so we can have a conclusion of sorts.

The character development and interactions were much better in Dark. Also, 1899 should have been called "Dark" because most scenes were literally too dark to see. To me the entire series was like the battle of Winterfell episode in GOT.

They cancel so many good shows. Supposedly they give a show a few days for the numbers to shake out before they cancel. Which sucks because I’m not investing in a show that is going to be canceled by netflix after a week. But this is why I’m looking to cancel Netflix this year

I didn't find it slow, honestly, like some people said, until the second last episode. i think an hour could have been dropped and the story hold intact. But I loved it. I found everything interesting, a complex puzzle. Was so disappointed they cancelled it. Few shows out there with this imagination. And they cancelled the OA without it finishing the story too. Aaaaaggghhh.

Dark is one of my favourite shows of all time and I enjoyed 1899. I think it did quite good on Netflix, but not good enough in relation to the immense production costs. The competition with other streaming services is tough and they're really focusing on the money more than ever. I just hope Baran and Jantje didn't sell all the rights to Netflix so they can maybe find another money source to get seasons 2 and 3 made.

I watched 1899 and it's sad Netflix cancelled 1899. What were they thinking? Perhaps they thought 1899 will be binged in one weekend. But 1899 is not the type of series you should binge. You should consume it slowly. Netflix is using this lame 28 day viewership as a reason to give it a go or no go. Also gut feeling and metric. That said, streaming competition is also tough. And I think Netflix is done. #save1899

The problem is that streaming platforms just make full seasons and sink millions of dollars into these shows instead of just filming a pilot episode and seeing how audiences respond to it. Cause when a show doesn't do good enough to compensate for the money and time spent on it, or it's decided that even though it's good the public response won't make up for the lost resources they cancel it anyway

I was interested in this sine "Dark' was brilliant and just knocked me out, as convoluted as it was with the timelines and characters, but "1899" was disappointing. To hold out that long on what was actually going on is asking a lot of the viewer. I'm much more patient than most people I know, from listening to them criticise movies & series for being 'too slow'/draggy/poorly paced, etc., but the approach taken in the writing didn't work well for me. Also, the kid not talking for so long was annoying.

As a horror/suspense/thriller/mystery lover, Dark was one of those series that was always on my to-watch list, but I unfortunately still haven’t gotten to (college student things 🥹). When I saw the trailer for 1899 and it released, I was IMMEDIATELY sucked in and in awe at just how good the storytelling, acting, the visuals were. Everyone in this cast was amazing, hell even all the crew who worked hard to create these episodes did great! Dark has definitely been bumped up on my list 😁
