"Mom's" laughter in the Chinese restaurant was real. Only "Dad" knew what was going to happen in that scene. She lost it, laughing, but the director never said "cut", so she kept going. That's why she says sorry to "Dad" at one point. One of my favorite scenes because it's real.

My favorite Christmas film. Nostalgic, kind-hearted, super funny. Gives me the same feeling as the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes". Ralphie can really be a rascal. I got my tongue stuck to an ice cube, panicked, ripped it off and my tongue bled. Too stupid to just put my tongue under some running water. If anyone is wondering how they did that scene in the film.. they had a tiny hose behind that pole that was sucking in air, looked super real, right?
@scorpiouk59145 күн бұрын
@JohnVinylGen, I did almost the same thing at 8 or 9 years old on my Grandma's metal ice cube tray. Years before this movie. Have you ever seen "A Wish For Wings That Work"? It is an animated Christmas episode based on the Bloom County comic strip. It is pretty funny.

As a kid, I thought it was funny and cute, but that was the 80s, and it doesn't age all that well. It's obviously meant to make fun of Chinese people, but if you can get past that, there are some cute moments in that scene. It's such a nostalgic Christmas movie. In my top 3, for sure.

My childhood years were in the 80s. But this movie, even though it takes place in 1940, it represents how our Christmases were growing up pretty accurately. Likely difficult for you two to be able to relate exactly but I hope you enjoyed it. My favorite scene is the end where the dad, seemingly more detached from the family than the mom, was listening all along. The way he laughs like a little kid at the end, when Ralphie is opening the BB gun, gets me every time. And I've probably seen this 500 times.

The Old-Man (father), Darren McGavin, did a a groundbreaking, Horror-Comedy telefilm called "The Night Stalker" that became the highest viewed telefilm ever. Still holds up really well. It spawned a sequel, "The Night Strangler," and single-season series, "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" where he continued the character. Great stuff! The Mother, Melinda Dillon, played the mother of the abducted child in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Ralphie, Peter Billingsley, went on to produce and have a small role as the villain Stane's chief scientist in "Iron Man" and later reprised that role in "Spider-Man: Far From Home."

A lot of it was filmed in the city I live in. The house is still there. It's basically a museum now. The current owner has had some drama about it recently. The square at the beginning with the parade has a tall office building added. The store is a casino now. My mom knew the male elf who also played Mickey Mouse in the parade at the beginning. And she knew the green witch in the store scenes. So there's that 😂

Yes, they yanked him off. That is not the way you are supposed to do it. You're suppose to apply hot water until the pole warms up. As the the rats nest of an outlet, most old homes only had two outlets total per room. If you wanted to plug in more, people used an multiplug or an extension cord, either way, you were still way over taxing the 15 amp circuit. This was also a fire hazard. Most homes now have 3 or 4 outlets per room. Are you girls sure you didn't get what you wanted for Christmas. Mostly, parents would send their kids to see santa and then they'd ask, what did you ask for? Now that you are adults, you can throw your own birthday party. I did when I was 25. There was an entire keg of beer and we order a bunch of pizza and played rock music. I invited all of my friends and no family members were invited. I loved it.
