There is a Star Trek book says Trilane is the son of Q, who traveled back in time to hide from his parents while he played. So the father at the end was Q, if you take that book as true.

As a child, the Gorn scared the daylights out of me, but now it's my favorite episode. You should check out the video William Shatner facing the Gorn again. It's a commercial for a Star Trek video game from 2013.

Thanks for the reaction to two very classic TOS episodes. Q certainly seemed inspired by the Squire. The tale of Kirk's battle with the Gorn goes down as legend as recalled in Star Trek DS9.

The navigator in Arena, Mr. DePaul, (Sean Kinney), is the actor who played Christopher Pike in the life support chair in The Menagerie. He and Jeffrey Hunter look so much alike they could be related.

The Squire of Gothos has been referenced and parodied so many times throughout the years. Even in a cartoon called Lloyd In Space, they called them Mr. And Mrs. Throbbing Energy Source.

The Squire Of Gothos is so well written and acted that the clues about Trelayne being a child go over most peoples heads. The food has no taste, like a child's tea party. The fire has no heat, like in a doll house. Trelayne "you may hide anywhere in the forest and I shall seek you out". He literally says we'll play hide and seek. But he delivers the line in such a grandiose manner you don't realize it. I love the subtle story telling of the original Star Trek. It was realized by the producer's that Frederick Brown wrote a short story named Arena and that it was very similar to the story in the episode. Brown was kind enough to give them permission to go ahead with the episode. You can hear Brown's story here on KZbin.

Good job. You asked about Spock's haircut. Leonard Nimoy's dad was a barber in Boston and that was his signature haircut for little boys; that's where Leonard Nimoy got the inspiration.

Two great early episodes and you both enjoyed them and had good comments. The "Arena" is Vasquez Rocks State Park, about 20 miles down the road from me. Very famous and often used place for Hollywood shooting because it is just inside the 30 mile limit that separates "local" vs. "on location" designation, saving extra expenses. The characters in The Big Bang Theory made a trek there in Trek costumes in one episode. Part of Blazing Saddles was filmed there as well, a distinctive rock formation is in the background in one scene. This is a great story about Kirk and Star Fleet not just being reactionary warriors. It showcased the hope for humanity that was built in to Trek. Pigeonhole the idea of the captain building a weapon from available materials during a fight...you will run into it again as a callback to this very story. Trelane is one of my favorite characters because he is so different and complex. Powerful yet flawed, inquisitive but not effective, alternating between being gracious and pitching a hissy fit, and in the end just a child. Come to think of it, I just saw a bit of a parallel to Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean in his quirkiness. The actor will return as a different character later.

13:25 in Old England there was no jury. The judge made all the decisions. This is what Tulane is basing his cord on. You really need to know your history. I don't think your kids are taught anything a value in school anymore.

The Gorn costume was designed and sculpted by Wah Chang, a long time veteran of the film industry specializing in props. He also made the false Balok puppet and the "salt vampire". He created the Romulan ship (with the bird of prey hull markings) and he designed the iconic communicator and tricorder props. (The phasers, both the pocket sized unit and the pistol version were the work of Matt Jefferies.) There exist a few "behind the scenes" photos of the individual Gorn costume pieces. Notably, those revealing the mask/headpiece show smooth featureless eyes. I have not come across any accounts to claim one way or the other, but I wonder if the notion of adding sequins to the eyes to make them insectoid, like those of a fly, was a last minute decision to make the "monster" that much more "alien". And the voice of the Gorn? Once again, that was Ted Cassidy who you heard as the false Balok and actually saw on camera as Ruk the android.

Yeah, only idiot thinks he's a young Q. The Q make everything real. Even Q's son would never make the mistakes of fire not having heat and food not having flavor. Plus the Q don't need instrumentality to augment their power. Tulane is a child of energy beings who need to use technology to amplify their power.

Yes, "Q-Squared". Q babysits Trelaine. As I recall, Trelaine did some pretty terrible things to the Enterprise crew. He dropped one down a turbolift shaft and kept her alive. Peter David was a R-Rated writer for sure.

I've read them all and I'll say the books - though "non-canonical" are better stories and more organic than the woke nonsense of the latest shows. Ironically, several of the tv show writers also wrote novels for Star Trek, including some of the actors (Armin Shimmerman and Andrew J. Robinson, and John DeLance all wrote novels ( obviously so too did Shatner with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens who wrote for the series "Enterprise"). D.C. Fontana also contributed at least one novel. So did Jeri Taylor. Also Kirstin Beyer's, a producer for Picard, is almost single handedly continuing the Voyager stories through the novels. My point is, some people claim they are not canonical yet people involved with the TV shows and movies are also involved in the novels which blurs the lines of what is and is not canonical. Dogmatism about science fiction canon is misplaced.

I wrote a Star Trek Voyager movie quite a few years ago called 'Redemption' dealing with the fall out from the destruction of the Borg Transwarp Hub and the alteration of the timeline and the disastrous consequences caused by its destruction. In my biased opinion it would have been the best Trek movie ever. Anyway, you learn what the power of the Q is - Subatomics, it is the same power as used by the Squire of Gothos and the Metrons.

Great reactions. Yes, two great episodes in the first episode. Yes, you’re right. Truly is member of the Q. We don’t find out too much later and it’s not even it’s confirmed in a book Star Trek novel. When the last Q born in the continuum, his parents are friends with Q and Q is Tray‘s godfather, cause his cure of problems and and all kinds of galaxies problems and actually the other with the go, yes he’d rather slow moving, but if we find out from future episodes future series, the new show strange new worlds, which is a which is a prequel series, which is before the crooks box time Actually with the enterprise of the community of captain Pike and Mr. Barker is on there going or a species we saw in the original series. Here is an adult one an older one, but when they’re young, they’re much more agile. They’re like alien Lagoon. Basically the new they infect humans. Other aliens with their salival. When they bite them they put their eggs inside the body and they and the aliens just inside the body and when they’re when they’re ready to give birth, rip out of the aliens chess And they like little dinosaurs and they grow up and become that slow moving thing they’re very terrifying who would’ve thought the old version we seen original series is so slow and the new version is so so terrified. Thanks for the fun until next time. Oh by the way, don’t you but there are two other good movies since you’ve been watching the old classic New Zealand inspired Star Trek Battle beyond the stars Roger Corman movie. He’s King of bee movies, but this one is much better and it’s has the first job of a guy named James Cameron his first job before Titanic before terminator way before avatar. You better be on the stars with Roger Corman and then black hole is done by Disney for a good movie. Since you’re seeing all these old space movies. Also Battlestar Galactica original 1978. Version is a short live series only 24 episodes great series. The new one is nice that I don’t think the original is excellent. You see that one of these days if you have time or want to know what to say on the channel The reason that lasted the only ones season is because it cost too much money to make. Plus it was problem with some toy lines. A kid choked on a plastic missile and George Lucas sued over a Star Wars. Cylon’s were too much like storm troopers, which I disagree. I think it was plenty different enough to not bother Star Wars me. Yes there’s there’s places were similar but but Galactica is nowhere. I’ll be confused as a Star Wars cologne, I don’t care what they say. That’s why finally years later. George Lucas lost his lawsuit and that’s why they were able to do the new Battlestar Galactica show. Not as good as the first one. I don’t think so. It’s also been off the original 78 series, 1980 even shorter than the original series. That’s also good to see but I just say because you love space things and you’re so good at those things. Thanks for the fun until next time. I’m here for whatever you have to watch. That’s all for now.

That was not a piano train was playing, at least it did not sound anything like one... It sounded exactly like a harpsichord... They are like a piano in the way that they are played except that it does not matter how hard you hit the keys they make the same sound, and it plucks a string rather than hits a string with a hammer.

But now that you have decided to double up on episodes, you are failing, in my humble view, to give the required time to each episode.
