25:30 "Roy. Why'd you pick that name. You couldn't have picked another name?" He told you. Hans said "Are you just another American who watched too many movies as a child? Do you think you're John Wayne?" And Jonn said "I was always partial to Roy Rogers." John Wayne and Roy Rogers were two actors that starred in many old black-and-white cowboy movies (and a few with color, too). Roy Rogers famously sang a song in his movies that featured "Yippie ki yay" in the lyrics (something a cowboy shouts at cows to get them moving). So he picked the name because, as a kid, he liked that actor. Maybe kids today might pick Bruce, or Keanu, or Arnold or Sylvester, etc.

@mattp60895 күн бұрын
Yep early in the piece she was Holly Gennero because the company would frown on a married woman not being with her family or some such reason. But what you say is very true, by the time Gruber interrogates her about it, she is trying to avoid a link between her and John being uncovered to protect them both from being used against each other. Quick thinking, I like it.

The fact that she corrects Hans with 'Miss' doesn't make any sense. Why should Hans connect her with the troublemaker John Mclane? At that point, Hans didn't even know who he was dealing with. And more than that, she acted really unsmart later when she pointed out to this snow-nosed dude Alice that it was her cop husband John who was out there playing the cowboy. Or do i see that wrong.?

LIAR. In order to save money, the Studio filmed it at their home offices of Fox Plaza, in later November. By this time, Christmas decorations had already been put up in the building. They had no money or time to remove them, so they stayed...also...the Christmas music that was added late in production. In real life, the building was not finished, so they even added lines to Takagi: "If we ever get it finished". That's the only reason why people call this a Christmas movie. It's not:" Even the Bruce Willis, the Director, the original novelist, and Producers said "it's not a Christmas movie" But the most important reason: There's not a single mention of Christ, no cross, no crucifix , nothing, which a requirement for a Christ-mass movie. Because the it's a HOLY-day named after him.

Movie star, star of his own television series, lead singer of Roy Rogers & the Sons of the Pioneers, rodeo star attraction with his wife Dale Evans, his horse Trigger, her horse Buttercup, & their German Shepard dog Bullitt, & leading seller of merch in the 50's, i.e., every kid had a Roy Rogers or dale Evans lunch box to take to school. A common phrase in Roy Rogers movies & T.V. shows was "Yippy-ki-yea, yippy-ki-yo". Die Hard just added the "M.F."! Before DIE HARD, Bruce Willis was pretty much only known for playing a goofy/funny character on the TV series MOONLIGHTING. If "Die Hard" isn't a Christmas movie, then neither is "Home Alone." And neither is the majority of movies that people unquestionably call Christmas movies. a) There is relentless Christmas "theming" throughout. Characters are constantly referencing Christmas, bells are incorporated into the music score, etc. It has more Christmas theming than "It's a Wonderful Life." b) The plot is contingent on it being Christmas. The building is largely shut down because of the holidays, save for that one Christmas party. c) The story/themes: This is the most important thing. It's not just about terrorists. The throughline is McClane reconciling with his wife and learning to be a better husband. And also making a human connection with Al Powell. And Al being able to move on from his traumatic incident. It's basically a Hallmark movie, but with lots of blood squibs, swearing and action. Honestly, the only reason not to consider it a Christmas movie is if you have a hard and fast rule that Christmas movies can't have action in them.

Hi Cristy! I hope you had a blast watching Die Hard. This isn’t just a Christmas classic, it’s widely regarded as one of the greatest action films ever made. It’s had such a huge cultural influence even to this day. It’s amazing to think that this was actually Alan Rickman’s first major studio role. Before this he was a veteran London stage actor who was unknown to American audiences, and he gives an absolutely iconic performance as Hans Gruber, who is still considered one of the greatest villains in cinema. While it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing that role, Sam Neill who is best remembered for playing Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park films was initially considered for the role of Hans Gruber. Die Hard not only redefined the action hero with Bruce Willis as John McClane, it revitalized the genre. The 1980s was defined by muscle-bound action heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Willis on the other hand portrayed a blue-collar everyday man who was vulnerable and fallible at times. Before this, he was best remembered for comedies and dramas such as Blind Date and ABC’s Moonlighting. Willis truly made John McClane an iconic anti-hero. Other actors who were initially considered for the role were Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Burt Reynolds, and Richard Gere. (9:11) First off, these are cold-blooded criminals who have no qualms about killing. The two security guards are disposable and have no value to them. The terrorists also don’t have to waste time securing the guards somewhere or worry about them escaping or alerting anyone if they’re dead. (11:00) John couldn’t just grab his wife and leave because Holly was captured with the rest of the group. (13:40) Because it would take time and effort to break the code, and they were hoping Takagi (Not Tagami) would make it easier for them to just give up the code. Takagi was killed because he refused to cooperate and was no further use to Gruber. (14:24) Because John would be dead too and he couldn’t have known Gruber would have just killed Takagi like that. (18:10) I’m sure he did, but at that point it was John’s best chance of alerting the authorities. (25:28) If you didn’t pick up on it, McClane referenced Roy Rogers when was talking to Gruber on the radio earlier. Rogers was an actor and singer best remembered for Western films and music from the 1930s to 1970s. He became known as “The King of Cowboys.” This explains why John picked Roy as his fake name and all the cowboy references in Die Hard. For Hans Gruber’s climatic death scene, Alan Rickman was rigged to be dropped backwards onto a blue crash mat on the count of three. The stunt coordinator instead devised a plan to have Rickman dropped on the one count in order to provoke the genuine reaction of shock you see his face in the film. While directing Die Hard, John McTiernan used extra loud blanks that gave the guns a more realistic sound and feel when fired, but there was no protection for the actors' ears. During the filming of the “No more table” scene, Bruce Willis was firing the gun so close to his head he ended up suffering permanent hearing loss in his left ear. Thank you for your hilarious and lovable reactions Cristy. If you haven’t seen them I would definitely recommend Predator, Robocop, First Blood, Commando, Escape from New York, Bloodsport, The Warriors, The Abyss (special edition), Total Recall, Demolition Man, The Fugitive, Crimson Tide, Air Force One, Starship Troopers, Blade, and Dredd. Take care love! 🫶🏻

Xmas plays a key role in the movie. Just because people aren't wearing dumb sweaters, singing xmas songs, opening presents, and sitting down for xmas dinner does not mean it is NOT a xmas movie. I would think the hostages that John saved would consider it a xmas miracle that they survived. There is plenty of xmas in it. It just doesn't slap you in the face with it.

Die Hard changed modern action films. Before, action movies involved muscle-bound guys shooting infinite ammo at an endless stream of henchmen. But Die Hard doesn't do that. John McClane is an average-looking guy who needs to keep track of how many bad guys there are and scavenge for weapons, ammo, and supplies from each one he murks. He doesn't run in guns a-blazin'. He has to think, strategize, and try to mentally outmaneuver Hans and his men. He's not a superhero, he's an everyman stuck in an extreme situation, making him much more relatable. This defiance of formula was so successful that it actually became its own formula, and subsequent action movies were written and pitched to Hollywood studios to be more like Die Hard. For example, the Keanu Reeves movie Speed was pitched as "Die Hard on a bus."

@MarcoMM15 күн бұрын
Great reaction Cristy, like always, i love this classic Xmas movie no matter what people say, i have reasons. The basic narrative situation of this movie is a man returning to his family for Christmas. His wife is called Holly. It takes place on Christmas Eve. Not Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July. It could have been set any week of the year, but wasn’t. The chief villain Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) explicitly invokes the Christmas spirit: “It’s Christmas, Theo, it’s a time for miracles.” Gruber is a classic bad capitalist villain: he’s there to steal money. Just as Old Man Potter does in It’s a Wonderful Life. There are some fun-facts about it. The scene when Alan Rickman gets dropped out of the window, they had him up above an air bag, and they said "we'll count to three and drop you," but they dropped him on "2" so that look of surprise on his face is genuine. Bruce Willis went partially deaf during filming. In an interview with in 1988, Willis told that he did a lot of his own stunts in the action film One of the stunts caused him permanent hearing loss. He said “Due to an accident on the first Die Hard, I suffer two-thirds partial hearing loss in my left ear and have a tendency to say, 'Whaaa?'" He also "nearly died". While filming the movie, Willis was married to Demi Moore. One day when she went to visit him on set, "I went to see him on set which turned out to be terrifying," she wrote in the book. "He nearly died jumping off a five-story garage, just making it onto the airbag below when he was blown off course by a scripted explosion. He laughed about it. I didn’t." During the film, a lot of glass gets destroyed by shooting it, jumping through it, pulling it out of feet. So, it only makes sense they spent a lot of money on the material during filming. How much, you might ask? A casual $130,000. The building that serves as Nakatomi Plaza in the film is actually Fox Plaza, the corporate headquarters of 20th Century Fox. The building was under construction during film, so the unoccupied 33rd and 34th floors served as a set. The role was originally meant for Frank Sinatra. Based on the Roderick Thorp novel Nothing Lasts Forever, Die Hard is in fact a sequel to Thorp's earlier novel, The Detective, which was turned into a film starring Frank Sinatra as private detective Joe Leland in 1968. 20th Century Fox was contractually obligated to offer the role of what would become John McClane to Sinatra, however, as he was in his early 70s, he declined. And while Willis eventually got the part, he was the fifth choice. Alan Rickman didn't think of Hans Gruber as a villain. Despite still being considered one of the best villains in an action film, Rickman didn't think of Hans Gruber as one. He said "I'm not playing the villain, I'm just playing somebody who wants certain things in life, has made certain choices, and goes after them." Rickman didn't like the guns. This it was Alan Rickman's first feature film. And during filming, he hated the gunfire. Director John McTiernan had to cut away from his face every time his character fires a gun, and if you look closely, you can see him wincing when Hans shoots Takagi. The terrorists aren't speaking German.This one might come as a shock if you've seen the movie plenty of times and always assumed the terrorists were speaking German. While it might've sounded like that, none of the actors spoke the language; so, in the theatrical release they spoke German-sounding gibberish, and in the home video release it was replaced with real German. But if you look carefully, their lips are off. Keep up the good work. And “Yippee Ki Yay” lol

"Die Hard": Officer John McClane finds this song on the plane, flying from NYC to California: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYqrnZh8e82ffM0 Bruce Willis' "John McClane" isn't like any other 1980's Action movie hero. He isn't a muscle-bound Rambo clone, he sits in the FRONT seat of Argyle's limousine, has moments of Fear/Uncertainty/Introspection, takes damage, and is "dead man walking" by the last quarter of the movie. These character traits garner admiration from men and women. Memes: "Christmas doesn't begin until Hans Gruber falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building." For "Firefly" fans: Every time a viewer falls in love with "Firefly," a Fox TV executive falls off the Nakatomi Plaze building. Cultural: Gene Belcher: Why is no one singing? Why is no one dancing? Actually some taller Buildings do have more than one car in an elevator shaft. Such cases tend to divide the shafts in sections and you have to transfer to go farther. Also such buildings tend to have express elevators that have only a few stops to get you to such sections. With a taller building such dividing can make it more efficient than stopping at each floor and reduce the length of cables and ware for such systems.

Cristy, you were talking about the amount of money being a lot in the 1980’s, with inflation until this year, that money would now be worth $1,706,809,129. As someone who weighs 255lbs, Bruce Willis doesn’t weigh anywhere near 230lbs. I’d say he weighs somewhere between 185-195lbs.

Completely wrong take. It is for sure a Christmas movie. It's not the traditional Christmas movie you expect but it has Christmas music throughout, not just a couple songs. It actually has more that some well known Christmas movies. It takes place on Christmas Eve at a Christmas party, much Christmas dialogue is used. References to Santa Claus. John's wife is "Holly", a name associated with Christmas. The movie is a story of a broken family and redemption at the end which is very Christmas-like. The worst Christmas is said 18 times in the script. One of the most defining things about it being a Christmas movie is when Christmas comes and you feel nostalgic and want to watch it again and again. It's basically home alone. A guy by himself against the terrorists. Also during the holidays die hard is the 12th most watched Christmas movie in the United states.
@milesisediting5 күн бұрын
Christmas is only the setting. That doesnt make it a christmas movie. If christmas is an important part of the story, THATS a christmas movie. Die Hard would work just as well in summer when Nakatomi is celebrating any other party
@troyrizzi27135 күн бұрын
@themiIes well its not in the summer and you are missing a lot of info by just minimalizing that and ignoring other things. It's like saying Home Alone isn't a Christmas movie because they could have been robbed on a summer vacation.
@Logan_Baron5 күн бұрын
And Miracle on 34th street could be changed to st patricks day and make it a question of whether Leprechauns are real. So it's not a christmas movie either. Also simply switching to another party also doesn't work. The whole point is that he flew home to see his family for the holidays. Not something someone does for the annual company arbor day party. The family theme is an important part of the story, an important Christmas element (same with Home Alone). Christmas in integral to the plot with the flying home to the family for Christmas, The Christmas party with the office otherwise being closed (what other holidays do offices close for a company party? What do you replace with the santa hat and "Ho ho ho" the gun taped on with holiday stickers, what would the falling paper representing snow be replaced with to work "just as well"?

John and Holly realize how much more important family is than everything else. Also, Holly has to get rid of the Rolex in order to get Hans off of her (the moral being Christmas is not about materialism). Die Hard has a Christmas message = Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

This film was the switch to the everyman hero film. until this point you'd had the Steroid fueled era of Stallone and Schwarzenegger and as much as I loved those films the average guy couldn't relate to them as people. This film had Bruce Willis as the average guy, he wasn't jacked, he wasn't perfect, he wasn't a one man army, he got his arse kicked multiple times and got hurt but through perseverance managed to win the day.

41:16 “You let me in right now, or I’ll call the INS.” “😧“ “This is the last time these kids are gonna have to speak to their parents.” “What? That is so illegal.” Getting your way by threatening to have someone deported? I legitimately don’t know. I readily agree that it _should_ be, but there are a lot of things that _should_ be illegal in the US that _aren’t._ There are also a lot of things that should be legally _mandated_ that aren’t. Personally, I am of a mind that we need federal laws in place requiring that everyone who goes to _elementary_ school, in the US be taught how to _swim_ and everyone who goes to _high_ school in the US be brought to full _Spanish_ fluency by the time they _graduate,_ because it doesn’t make sense that we should continue to remain unable to talk to the people with whom we share a _border._

They drop more F-bombs that you can shake a stick at. Including a little girl. 4. He better have a place to crash.😍😍 5. The dead body that fell was full of bullets Dumbass😏🤬 6. YES, a Christmas movie. It takes place at a Christmas party. For those who say it could have taken place anywhere. It didn't. 7. Missing you Bruce.😰

it's not a Christmas movie. in order to save money, the Studio filmed it at their home offices of Fox Plaza, in later November.
