I'll be honest I only started following women's football during the run England had at the 2015 World Cup where we finished third, but at the full time whistle I did shed a few tears. After the heartbreak and disappointment of watching the Men's national team come close in recent years but never tasting success and even further back completely capitulating at tournaments, I didn't believe I would see England win a major tournament in my lifetime. But over the past 7 years watching these women consistently being one of the best national teams in the world, reaching the Semi's of the Euro's in 2017 and the World Cup in 2019; I just knew it was written for us to finally bring it home and win our first major tournament since 66. All of these women are heroes and I am forever grateful for the Lionesses for finally bringing football home and giving me the best footballing moment of my life. I hope the boys can match this success and go all the way in Qatar

I had my heroes as a child, I had Andrea Pirlo and Gary Speed, and then I had Kelly Smith and Jill Scott. However, I too didn’t give enough attention to the women’s game until the last 5-6 years, but after this tournament it’s not about supporting the game anymore for me, it’s about not missing out on being a part of something special. As you said, it was so emotional at the end of the game, and the football they play, the personalities in the team, I want to keep watching these girls and watch the nation get better and better. Next top, tackling the USA! I’m really routing for the boys too, there’s a really good bunch across both senior set ups and the way they support each other is just brilliant.

Watching England’s run through the Euros was one of the greatest experiences I’ve had as a lifelong fan of football. The skill on display, the team spirit, the tactical nous, the goals, all of it was absolute class. It finally came home. The endless demand for football will bring woman's football on its own merits, style and class. I personally love watching women's football and find in it something exhilarating. Those who have invested early and plentifully in this sport will benefit in the future. I can see England growing and leaving a mark in this sport in generations to come. Those who didn't believe in it have lost that chance.
@stuntpeggnieve2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with everything, as Alex Scott said on the BBC, any brands/companies that don’t want to support women’s football are genuinely missing out. She’s not asking them anymore, she’s telling them that if they miss this now, they’ll miss it forever. The women’s game is a safe space, it has a uniquely joyous atmosphere and the football is so fun to watch, there’s an audience for it and it’s a fast growing audience. A big thing for me is the personalities of a lot of the players, they just seem like brilliant human beings and I want to watch them play/succeed. So many feel the same.

I’m in the US and I have a couple of questions. Why do you call it the Mexican Wave? I had never heard that before. That wave actually started in baseball games in the US back in the 70’s, maybe even before. And two, how come you guys banned it? Is it because of people throwing beer and objects? I can see that not being much fun
@deaddoll13612 жыл бұрын
@@lgarcia67 Apparently it was dubbed the Mexican Wave as it was first seen around the world during the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Cricket Australia has banned it because of crowd behaviour, stating "while the wave itself is harmless, unfortunately the associated throwing of objects is not". I'm not sure whether the UK has banned it, but having cups of beer or urine thrown over you is bound to make you in favour of a ban. As always, it's the minority spoiling it for everyone else.
@TomGB-812 жыл бұрын
I've never been a big fan of any sports but whenever I've seen a stadium do it on TV and in movies I've always thought how amazing that wave looks. Now watching this video and I saw her facial reaction I was surprised thinking why is she shaking her head? Then later explaining why the police came to stop the wave... shocking I just couldn't believe it! So I read the comments here, read Igarcia67's response, checked online - so apparently it's not considered offensive yet it seems "some" people in the stadium dislike performing it in the stadium, so because of them it's now banned. Madness..

That wave was first seen worldwide in the World Cup at Mexico 86, became popular and been known as a Mexican Wave. And it’s usually done during a boring match or a quiet period, which this wasn’t, it was a tense final, so her energy towards it was absolutely perfect. Annoyed me as well

Welcome back Nieve. All go for the next few months and what a way to start. I thought you would have done a video from what I still call the Charity Shield. I have watched England international women and the league highlights this last decade because they were real people who anyone could relate to. Some of the teams from other countries in the women's Champions League and this tournament seem to have been more cynical and I hope this does not mean money has spoiled things already. I am especially glad England won whilst it was still something they all had to go out of their way for. In a kind of perverse way the things they deserve to get for the future will make it somehow less significant too if they win it then. Not that I do not want them to win more though. P.S. I learned German at school and I watched their post match reaction videos. They are very annoyed at not getting a penalty. Not a Soviet linesman this time, but a Ukrainian referee for future dispute.

Well done to our amazing lionesses. The nation is proud of you! Next challenge - fair pay for women's England players. Some of the money that goes to pay the enormous weekly salaries for the premier league (e.g.Salah - £400,000 a week) need to go to the women as recompense for the 50 year ban imposed on them!
