We had heard the stories, we had been warned, and yet we went anyways! Such is the need to see it for yourself! Immediately as we walked into the Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali, we were welcomed in by the moans of the tourist before us who had been bit by the adorable monkey.... 😨 You what now?!!! As we entered the monkey's territory, it become even more clear that they had no fear or respect for their human guests. We watched people get bit one right after the other by the adorable fanged creatures. Some of the monkey bites were warranted but most were not. We gingerly made our way through the sea of monkeys and tourists inside the monkey forest, trying to get close enough to take a picture (we weren't leaving without a souvenir proving our bravery) but far enough away that we would not be seen as a threat... or food source.
The monkeys of the monkey forest in Ubud, Bali really were incredible though, as they swung from vines, cuddled their babies, and tussled around with each other. We couldn't help but smile at each one as it passed. They are such interesting creatures and you could tell that they were so intelligent.
We also were surprised by how big of an area the Monkey Forest was inside Ubud, Bali. There were 100's of monkeys and also 100's of tourists and it never really felt that crowded because of how big the Monkey Forest is.
We finished our day at the Monkey Forest with dinner in Ubud and a terrifying run home in the dark on a narrow scooter path... not the smartest move ever.
The next day we found a delicious, NOT authentic, restaurant named WAM. Other than our time cooking with Katut, we had not been very impressed with the food in Bali. Perhaps different spices, cooking styles? What ever the reason, we were pleased, and a bit guilty, to gorge ourselves on some good ol' fashion western breakfast.
We walked around Ubud some more and watched a girl get hit by a scooter. we felt so bad for her as she was already bandaged up from another accident that happened earlier to her. Poor thing! We felt so blessed that we stopped when we did otherwise that would have been us in the path of that bike... thank you God!! We made sure that she was okay before continuing on but were reminded that you can't assume you are safe when traveling in a new place.
Ubud has certainly been an exciting part of Bali, we can't wait to share the next leg of our journey with you!
