From the Boondocks fansite: "Uncle Ruckus's name is a reference to Uncle Remus or Uncle Tom. He is the darkest-skinned character on the show. His name is also a reference to Amos Rucker, an African-American United Confederate Veterans member, who allegedly wanted to stay a slave after the United States Civil War."

I still think that out of all of the Boondocks episodes the most emotionally beautiful episode is the Bob Ross episode. Just seeing Riley put his heart and soul into painting a picture of his dead parents which he came up with from the line "Let's paint a picture of someone you love. The Bob Ross episode highlights that Riley, underneath the anger and angst, is just a kid who dearly misses his parents. That's why he seeks an influence from anyone who seems 'gangsta', because all he really knows is that lifestyle from BET and rap music.

For those wondering, that wasn’t an image of Granddad and his wife; it was Riley and Huey’s parents. Granddad wears glasses, even in his youth. The wedding dress and makeup is more 90s than 60s-70s, and the shot frames focus on the husband (his son) and not the wife (his daughter-in-law).

The Riley/Blonde Ross episode always stuck with me for how legitimately touch it was. Granddad having such a serious emotion moment was such a break from the show's usual tone you can't help but feel a piece of what he was. And imagine how proud Riley must have felt seeing that! The Cosby stuff feels (more) recent because of the trial and how much media press it got a few years ago, but people, specifically comedians and comedy shows, were talking about his allegations for decades. I think "The Boondocks" would have been in that hotspot where the allegations started to initially take hold with the public. This episode was also made around 2005/2006 and Aaron was publicly criticizing Bill at the time for how he was portraying specific communities/the youth.

Being called articulate is one of the biggest things not to do when talking to a black person. Its pretty much saying "wow you're educated good job" There are several different types of black people you'll find in this show. Most black people that you find in the main cast represent a different level of black person you'd find. I'm more of a black person who "acts white" a Mr. Dubois. Huey, Riley, Ruckus, Robert all have different stances and these stances are common within the black community. As a black person I don't feel as if I fit in because I'm so white washed (?), or white acting. Anyways hope my point is clear these characters represent the different types of black people. But yeah. Watching you guys watch this is kinda cringy. Its surprising how much BET you didn't watch. I'd be the same if my sister wasn't blacker than me. There was this crazy show called celebrity rap battle that I loved. I use to wake up at 4AM and she'd have the remote control and I'd just watch so much BET and that show was super unhinged I recommend it. (In the art episode I'm pretty sure Huey was watching BET) Which is funny.

Now go tell that to historically illiterate ethnic folks. They're the ones who don't even understand the watermelon reference, and can't take that joke either. They ARE PRISSY, they jsut aren't articulate EITHER despite being so prissy. And US literacy rates ARE terrible, nobody is giving credit to SCHOOLS for being able to educate at least SOMEBODY. It's all on parent's who weren't deadbeats, and oh, won't you look a tthat, what are the statistics on deadbeat dads?

Ross later said " the job requires you to be s mean, tough person, and I was fed up with it. I promised myself that if I ever got away from it, it wasn't going to be that way anymore" and as funny as it is The Boondocks representation of a "Bob Ross-esque" character has always been my favorite.
