The Tasmanian Government owns a company called TT-Line Pty Ltd, and it's more well known by its trading name of: Spirit of Tasmania
TT-Line currently operates two aging Ferries between Devonport (Tasmania) and Geelong (Victoria) called:
The Spirit of Tasmania I
The Spirit of Tasmania II
Between January 2004 and August 2006 it operated a 3rd Ferry called The Spirit of Tasmania III between Devonport (Tasmania) and Sydney (New South Wales). But although I could not find the reason why, most likely due to the longer travel time and the extra costs to passengers, this service only lasted for 2 years and 8 months. The Spirit of Tasmania III was subsequently sold off.
The Spirit of Tasmania I and II Ferries are due to be replaced in 2024 by two new Ferries called Spirit of Tasmania IV and V. However just this week the media in Tasmania is reporting Cost Blow Outs and delays in their commissioning. It's still possible that one new Ferry will debut in 2024, but the second Ferry may not arrive until 2025 now.
