I recently cut a reaction video for The Shawshank Redemption that was 1 hour 20 mins (excluding the outro). I honestly don't think the volume of footage is the problem, necessarily. Most claims against videos are 'audio-visual' claims. Drop your opacity and/or remove the music and background noise and you'll be surprised how much footage you can get through.

Considering the only people in the room waiting for her return we’re those that died on the titanic sinking, I’d say it’s a strong opinion of her closure and her passing once she finally “let go” of the heart of the ocean and telling of the story. James Cameron probably left it to interpretation for the audience so there wouldn’t be anything definitive which is his style

The great thing about this movie is the CGI still holds up even almost 30 years later. There was some green screen use such as the “king of the world” scene, the engine room and the part where the stern goes vertical in the air but the whole ship was a real set that they built in a huge tank that they lowered for the sinking scenes. If you removed all the modern day scenes and just kept the 1912 scenes, the movie would be 2 hours and 40 mins. The exact time it took the ship to sink. James Cameron was pretty detailed on that. He even brought historians in to make sure the clothing, and acting/body language was on par with how it was in 1912. He’s also been to the wreck a number of times and that’s where some of the underwater scenes in the beginning were from. The old couple in bed as the ship was sinking was based on a real couple who owned the Macys Department store Isidor and Ida Straus. Ida refused to leave her husbands side and there was a deleted scene that referenced this.
@Milner629 күн бұрын
the "king of the world" scene as well as the "im flying" scene while they were shot infront of green screens they still super imposed them on the huge scale model that they built so the Titanic you see in those shots were a physical prop just a huge scale model and not truely CGI like you would expect in modern days.
@ulfberht44316 күн бұрын
Hate to be that guy but does bringing up the CGI really matter when it’s a) barely noticeable and b) not a main focus of the film’s effects and c) redundant. I feel like I am the only person who does not care or gush over the fact if a movie uses CGI or Practical Effects. Yes they are nice but can you not just watch the movie and be immersed in it? Both are just tools. You don’t idolise or worship the hammer that built the house, even if it’s a hammer made of gold studded with gems, so why CGI/ Practical Effects?

The actor that played John Jacob Astor (Eric Braeden) is in fact a real-life shipwreck survivor. In his case, he survived the sinking of the MV Wilhelm Gustloff in January 1945 at the age of 3. It holds the record for the largest loss of life in a single ship sinking (only 1,200 people survived out of the roughly 10,600 people on board (it was evacuating German refugees from war zones towards the end of World War II and was sunk as a result of a Soviet torpedo strike)).

Some notes: The wreck footage is real. James Cameron is actually a Titanic enthusiast and has went down to the wreck numerous times. Margaret “Molly” Brown was one of the real historical figures portrayed in the movie. She actually did try to convince the officer in charge of her lifeboat to go back for survivors, but was refused (though the officer irl was different from the one in the movie). She later tried to help survivors rebuild their lives and undertook numerous other charitable causes. She actually wasn’t called Molly until after her passing. The elderly couple seen in bed together during the sinking were Isidor and Ida Strauss. Isidor was the co-owner of Macy’s Department Store. Ida refused to get on a lifeboat unless Isidor could come with her, and he refused to take a spot while women and children were still on board. This was shown in a deleted scene. The band actually did keep playing until the ship went down. It wasn’t just to entertain the wealthy, but to keep the passengers calm for as long as possible. The song heard in the film during the montage was “Nearer My God To Thee”, said to be the last song they played (though there is some debate about this). All eight of them died in the sinking.

People also forget a good amount of wreck footage seen in this film is of the actual wreck. Cameron developed a unique camera capable of filming at that depth outside of the submersible to get some of the shots we see. But not all are actual footage. He did go back in 2001 and again later on I forget the year where he filmed more from the wreck site. The 2001 is a bit easier to find, the film and the companion book is called "Ghosts of the Abyss", this was being filmed way back in September 2001. The other one was live from the ocean floor and its hard to find that footage that was done.

@Milner6210 күн бұрын
Not entirely true. Yes this would be Smith`s last voyage before retirement. He how ever was not under pressure to arrive early in New York, in fact arriving early was just as bad as arriving late as all passengers would have no transportation due to the arrival on anything other than arrival day. Now the speeding up, that was normal, Sunday morning the boilers of Boiler Room 1 was brought online which would have increased her speed from her 21 knots to around 23-24 knots max. This was standard procedure of the time and wasnt anything abnormal.
@Milner6210 күн бұрын
@@rachaelhogan7850 That is also a full on myth. There is no evidence to support that it ever had happened. The only thing we have close to that is survivor reports of Ismay showing a ice warning to a group of passengers and he informed them that they were speeding up. That was Sunday and the boilers in Boiler Room 1 was brought online that morning and would be providing additional steam to the engines.
@nathieboy19879 күн бұрын
@@rachaelhogan7850 Bruce Ismay never asked (or ordered) for the speed to be increased to break a record. He did, however, mention the time of Olympic's maiden crossing in conversation, but that's pretty much the extent of it. Ismay has been dealt an unjust and crappy hand since the sinking. To me, he is a hero. He convinced one of my family members, a maid and nurse, to board lifeboat 16. She was hesitant but he said to her and her companions "You are all women now" and ensured they got on. Evelyn Marsden's fiancé even wrote to Ismay thanking him for what he did to save Eveyln.

I've studied Titanic for 40 years and can say that no film will ever get it "right" to the degree that this one did. Yes, it captures the physical details of the ship to an exacting degree - much of which goes unnoticed unless you watch it several times, but it also captures the spirit of the event. What makes the story of Titanic so enduring? I think it has something to do with this - from the impact with the iceberg until she foundered, the ship was the stage for one of the great human dramas. For 2 hours and 40 minutes, 2,208 people had their stories played out - there was heroism, cowardice (not much, really), fear, panic, resignation, stoicism, and even occasional humor. In the end 712 managed to survive to tell the tale.

I might be wrong but the chef hanging on at the top with jack and rose is based off the chief baker Charles Joughin. He apparently accepted his fate, so he drank a crazy amount of whiskey. Due to this once in the water he couldn't feel the biting cold so he survived and eventually found safety.

Not entirely true. Yes that is Chief Baker Charles Joughin, and yes he was drinking throughout the night, but he was also throwing deck chairs over board in the water which posed a risk to anyone that jumped off the Titanic. Now his survival is in question, his story actually changed on top of him admitting to be drunk. First iteration of his survival story was that he jumped into the water when Titanic started to break up. By time he got to New York his story changed to riding Titanic`s stern down like a elevator and even taking a stroll on the starboard hull plating. The liquor is also the most damming of his story, the liquor would have in fact caused him to die from hypothermia quicker than someone that wasnt full of liquor.

Titanic, one of my favorite movies. Beautiful story, tragic reality. It made #1 of box office in history. The reign ended in 2009 when James Cameron released his amazing movie "AVATAR" when it made 2.9 billion dollars and still at #1. Both movies are great

At the end when rose says “he exists now only in my memory”, it always makes me cry. The fact that because of the time period she doesn’t have any photos or texts messages or voicemails to look back on. Only her memories of him.

I saw this movie when I was about 8 or 9, with my family. At first, I really enjoyed it and thought the movie was so fun. The dancing scene was my favorite. Then…then the intimate scene happened (which was my first exposure to that so I was traumatized), and the boat crashed, and my eight-year-old-self was in shock and horror. I was NOT warned or told of what went down in the titanic. I remember being so angry at my family for not warning me about these scenes, lmao.

The way this movie did the sinking is one of the most intense, engaging, and authentic-feeling things in any movie ever.

One of the things that Cameron did was that when people were to panic for filming he said everyone would take it to 10 and it just didnt work. What he ended up doing was he used birth month and assigned on a scale of 1 to 10 how much panic they should show this ensured that everyone didnt instantly go to full panic and it would be varied more.

There is an episode of Mythbusters where they explored the final scene of Jack and Rose in the water. James Cameron was getting emails from fans saying that Jack could have survived. So he asked the Mythbusters to settle the issue once and for all.

Fun fact; the actor who plays Cal improved that table toss, and Kate Winslet’s reaction was authentic.

Little fun fact for the scene when Rose jumps back on the ship and she and Jack reunite by the clock. They had done multiple takes of that scene that day and James Cameron was done with the scene, but Leo asked him for one more take "for the actors" and he obliged. It was during that take did Leo do a little add-in and when Kate threw her arms around him, he lifted her up off the floor and because she wasn't expecting it, it got her to really get into the emotions of that moment and it's the scene we have now. Another moment is during the scene when Jack and Rose are stuck behind the gate underwater, it was highly stressful and Kate was actually really anxious every time she had to go under because the water was just shoving them against this gate and every time they were under Leo would stroke her legs to keep her grounded so she didn't start to panic.

This was quite the movie. I have seen multiple movies and documentaries about Titanic, as well as reading several books. One of the best movies about Titanic is A Night to Remember from 1958; it is based upon the book by Walter Lord. He also wrote another book called The Night Lives On, which also about that night and the events that happened in the aftermath of the sinking. That being said, as far as the sinking of Titanic, this is the most realistic movie I have seen about it. It really captured the heartbreak and tragedy of that long night. I love the story of Jack and Rose. If you notice many of the outfits Rose wears in the movie, you see a butterfly motif and a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, which symbolizes how Rose changes over the course of the movie. Having served in the Navy, I could not help but notice some of the more technical parts of the film, especially during the iceberg scene and the sinking. Much credit to the late James Horner for his beautiful music for this movie. I also have to mention Arthur Rostron, the captain of the Carpathia, which picked up the survivors. Upon being awoken and told the Titanic was sinking, he started issuing orders and had the entire crew awoken to prepare to take on survivors. He also had the heat shut off to crew and passenger cabins to get as much speed out of the engines as possible. Even though there was no chance of Carpathia getting there before Titanic went down, he at least tried. And Fifth Officer Lowe, who was the only officer to go back and look for survivors after Titanic slipped beneath the water.

*I love how this movie is essentially Romeo & Juliet set on an ill-fated ocean liner.* *_Rest in peace to the 1,500 people who lost their lives aboard the real Titanic in 1912._*

Third-class passengers were not kept below decks during the sinking. No floor to ceiling gates existed in passenger areas in Third Class. Gates no higher than at the waist, existed to separate classes, but these were opened by 12:30am and would have been easy to get through, so much so that a passenger broke the lock on it going up to the next deck. The only floor to ceiling gates that existed on the ship were in storage spaces for the kitchens along Scotland Road and surrounding the cargo holds in the forward part of the ship.
@Milner629 күн бұрын
There were floor to ceiling gates in 3rd glass areas. On E-Deck you had three Bostwick gates in third class areas, two of them are at frame 71 and frame 77 port. Frame 71 is a bostwick gate blocking access to the hoist that goes from the orlop deck up to D-deck. This is a third class area as its right across from the 3rd class womens/mens lavatory. The third Bostwick gate was located at frame 106 starboard that blocks a double stairwell that goes from C-Deck 3rd class open space down to G-Deck. Another hinderance would have been the emergency door situated at frame 33 port side, this door would have been locked at all times outside of when in port. This door would connect 3rd class and crew spaces of Scotland Road to 1st class spaces the E-Deck landing of the forward grand staircase. Another door that would have been locked is at frame 83 starboard next to the Masters at Arms, this connects 1st class hallway to 3rd class. So there were hindrances that would have prevented 3rd class from moving into 2nd class and 1st class areas that were more than simple waist height garden gates. There would have been emergency doors that would have been locked to keep the classes separated for health reasons. Now the question is if those emergency doors were ever opened. doubtful the one on E-Deck was as it would have been a direct link for 3rd class to get to the boat deck from scotland road.
@gokulgopan43974 күн бұрын
@@Milner62none of them mattered as the steerage could access both well decks and the waist high gates were the hindrance.

I cry whenever I watch this movie. I'm 41. I watched it when I was a teenager. Now I'm 41, I cry harder. As we advance in life, we learn what's really important and what's not. And guys, love! That's what a middle aged man who's lived a good amount of time can say to you. Love your family, love your pet, love your hobbies, love your talents, love your knowledge. Love! Just love! That's it. You're welcome.

5:53 "I see you". An interesting fact about that line: James had the story and script for _Avatar_ written out before he made _Titanic._ But in the mid 90s the CGI technology wasn't quite good enough yet for his vision. He decided to make _Titanic_ first and put off _Avatar_ until CGI tech got good enough for his liking. By the late 00s CGI and motion capture had matured enough for him, and _Avatar_ was made. But he had had the story and the script since before _Titanic._ And therefore, while making _Titanic,_ that use of that phrase, "I see you" would have been in his head. And lo and behold he put it here in _Titanic._

On the 100th anniversary in 2012, there were countless posts from people saying things like "wait Titanic is real? I thought it was just a movie" "Titanic was a real ship?" Etc lol

Yep, but people got a second chance as the movie came back to theaters in April for the 100th anniversary. I ended up going to Titanic 3D 5 times in April as I saw it in theaters originally but it wasnt 3D and the 3D was the best 3D Ive seen to date. Im used to the two color 3D glasses but this was using tow different polarized lens glasses that doesnt introduce a weird color shift in the movie when watching.

I always start crying when, at the very beginning, Rose looks at the sunken doors, she remembers that very day.) I like to think that it touches me to watch this story every time, because I, like Rose, return to the Titanic, to Jack. I like to think that Jack "drowned" already when he first met her gaze, because if Rose had not been there, Jack with his resourcefulness would have definitely stayed alive. I like to think that Rose had great courage to leave her life and family and stay with the man her heart followed. I like to think that Cal is a good guy who wanted Rose to survive, who lied to get Rose on the lifeboat - and Cal, Rose, and Jack all knew it.) I like that Rose throws the necklace into the ocean at the end because it's been weighing heavily on her shoulders all this time - a reminder of all the actions that led her there, the pain of losing not only her dead Jack but her living mother, the rejection of familiar, ordinary faces in her days, the courage to start something new with this weight in her heart. And finally the opportunity to let it all go. I love Titanic. It's as if my memories once sank with it.

You only see those that died in the sinking in the grand staircase in that scene. Cal didnt die, he survived and would blow his brains out after the stock market crash that resulted in the great depression.
