The Dead Weight episode holds a place close to my heart. It was filmed on Balboa Island, a small island community in Southern Calfiornia. I was just a small boy living on the Island when this episode was filmed, and there was much excitement when the "Hollywood people" were coming to our small little ocean town. My parents let me skip school to watch the filming. The place where Suzanne makes the phone call to the police is the Island Ferry landing, where the little auto ferry shuttles folks across the bay to the Balboa Peninsula. Just across the sidewalk from that landing is a little grocery store, which my father owned. We all huddled in the grocery store to watch Suzanne (I think my dad had a huge crush on her at the time). But from that angle and location, all we could see of her was the flow of her hair on the wind, dark sunglasses, and a smile. In front of the grocery store we had a little ice cream stand that sold "Balboa Bars" which were vanilla ice cream on a stick, dipped in melted chocolate, and rolled in candy pieces. Suddenly, there was a break in the shooting, and I saw Suzanne relaxing alone on the little concrete barrier wall near the water. My father quickly made a Balboa Bar and, as it melted in my hand, I ran it over to Suzanne. I handed her the melting, gooey mess on a stick, and she graciously accepted it and asked me to sit next to her. It was as this moment when I realized how beautiful she was. She simply glowed in the sun, with her deep dark eyes, and her beautiful smile, and a laugh that was much bigger and louder than what you would expect her body to hold She was so kind and so gentle. The ocean breeze was really blowing at that time, and at one point she brushed the hair away from my eyes as she spoke to me. It was such a gentle and kind moment. That is how I will always remember Suzanne...this bright, stunning, kind woman who patiently spoke to me as ice cream melted all over her hand.

This is my 2nd episode from your channel & I'm blown away by your level of research. I think I have watched every Columbo episode a. minimum of 5 times in the course of my lifetime, pausing for a rerun or marathon on any platform over 50 years. It is not hyperbole to say, your labor of love gives greater meaning to what I always knew was great tv. I already knew The Who & then I already knew How Columbo figured it out & proved the Who. Loved the acting by the major stars. I would rewatch to catch the things I missed. Over 50 years, I've seen this episode at least 5 times & this is the first time I have learned more about the supporting characters. Your contribution has helped me to understand why I love this show & never tire of it. This is great tv, & what you do is highlight the people that were part of the secret sauce. I always knew that Falk had a prosthetic eye. I didn't know that it was from retinoblastoma. Well, my amazing 34 year old daughter was diagnosed with retinoblastoma as well when she was 6 months old. Long story, but we opted for radiation treatment instead of Enucleation of the eye. No right or wrong decision. Life's a trip. Oh, some additional info about Eddie Albert; three different nominations for best supporting actor in the 1973 movie The Heartbreak Kid. Winner of that nomination by the National Society of Film Critics Awards. Have you (anyone else here as well) seen that movie? Wow, what a great movie. He played Cybill Shepherd's dad. Back then the term dad wasn't used, he was her father. His portrayal of a protective, intimidating, scary, no-nonsense father was amazing. Great work on your channel. Thank you.

It reminded me of something I wanted to post about Suitable For Framing. It made me wonder if this episode had influenced John Landis; in both The Blues Brothers & Trading Places there are scenes when the same shot occurs. In The Blues Brothers: When their car falls to pieces at the end of the chase, there are shots showing the faces of statues as though they're looking and assessing the situation. In Trading Places, when the money planted on Winthorp is discovered and he's being arrested and removed from the club, there are shots of faces on the paintings in the room looking as though they're also judging Winthorp. I recently got into the Columbo cut down episodes on the Columbo KZbin channel. Before that, I also loved the Murder, She Wrote review/recaps done by PushingUpRoses on KZbin. So when I found this video I was very pleased to find somebody else doing these sorts of deep dives into my newest obsession. Six and a half hours later, I'm so glad to have stumbled across this channel. I've subscribed to Watch it for Days and I haven't even seen what else you've made. I'll be going through the Columbo content, season by season. I (and about a few hundred uncredited background actors) thank you for doing this.

Great compilation! Worth watching many times. I agree fully with your comment about the ending of 'Murder by the Book'. The way he said '...I had you going for a while', was almost childish and still bothers me whenever I watch the episode. That aside, I really enjoy learning about all the actors in the episodes. I've watched these all so many times... I put this on for background TV and I slowly started to notice she was saying things I'd never heard her say before. There's New Stuff! Now I have to sit home for the next 6 hours. It's okay. The kids know how to walk home in the dark. It's only three miles.

Absolutely wonderful channel! Thank you! I watched thru all of season 1 compilation. I'm astounded by the amount of work you do to bring us the variety of substantive information about all aspects of each episode (producing, uncredited actors, music, props and sets, trivia, angles, context etc). Your voice and pacing as you deliver the info is also easy to listen to. I really like the 'Then and Now' comparisons. Thanks again, much appreciated

Very subtle acting by Culp at 1:52:00. He "comforts" himself by almost rubbing his nose . When someone is caught in a lie or nervous, it can cause the noise to itch. Many people will rub or pinch their nose to relieve it. Fantastic acting by Culp and something Columbo would have picked up on. I wonder if it was method acting where he got into character and his nose itches naturally or if it was a conscious acting choice by Culp or if the director asked him to do it.

I just remembered Jack Cassidy also appeared in a Night Gallery segment called The Last Laurel where he also coincidentally tries to commit a murder that doesn't quite go as planned. Bullitt=best car chase ever. Most say French Connection, but I put that at #2. I heard Death Proof ranked at 1 now though. That one's pretty good as well. I'm loving the new movie clips included in these updated full season compilations. I personally liked Ransom for a Dead Man a lot better than Prescription: Murder as a pilot. It was because the clues were way too subtle in Prescription: Murder that it didn't make sense to me that Columbo really suspected Dr. Fleming to me as quickly as he did. I guess it was the difference in the luggage weights. Not sure why he would have checked the weights though in the first place, so that didn't make sense to me. And after repeated viewings, I figured Columbo probably figured out that Joan Hudson was the one disguised as Fleming's wife after seeing her in the office, but again, it was too subtle and took repeated viewings for me to realize that. It seemed to rely more on Fleming's behavior following the murder mostly and Columbo's powers of observation. So I liked Ransom better because of there being more physical evidence tying the killer to the crime.
