John, your dad has an immense amount of knowledge of all things mechanical. I mean, a guy who can look at a bearing and rattle off a part number and be right on is amazing.This is the person you definitely want on your bug out survival team when an apocalypse hits. Because his knowledge of all things mechanical, electrical or gas or any other device is irreplaceable.
@robertfinnerty72016 сағат бұрын
Videos with your father are the best. My Dad was a mechanical/electrical engineer, and he drew me diagrams like your dad does and explained things the same way. He fixed more things that others would have thrown away. Anyone who works for your father's company will never have a problem finding work after working with/for him.

He covers's a lot of content from house repair, motorcycles, computers, muscle cars and he even loves the new EV technology. My favourite part is that he never comments or brings up religion and or politics. Smart guy!

Just some helpful info, been selling towable compressors (Airman brand) for 20 plus years, the number one thing that will cause them to over heat is end-users turning up the factory set psi on the air regulator to get more psi, these are set form the factory and when turned up will cause the engine over rev & over heat. So when you get it up and running, double check the pressure , it should be about 90 to 95 psi . Also check the air end oil levels . That Sullair unit should run for 7 to 800 plus hours trouble free. Enjoying your content. Happy New Year to you all.

The breath of knowledge your dad has makes me miss my dad. I lost his wisdom to dementia 11 years ago then he passed last June at 84. Seems like there are fewer and fewer of the men who truly knew every detail about every machine they touched. I was totally lost though a lot of the video, that is what reminded me when ever he would correct you/ teach you it was just like I was back with my dad in his shop. I always jokingly introduced myself "Bob's idiot son" He always got a kick out of that and telling people I was much smarter than him because I was a Nurse, he was just a poor old ditch digger who was not even that good at the end of a shovel. He always knew what direction he was going he could always remember every person he ever met and he could "see level" I wish I still had him around. I know it does not to be said, and your dad appears to be in fantastic health, spend as much time with him as you can. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I'm officially impressed... I'm a 40-year Electronics Design engineer, and your Dad's understanding and description of how IGBT PWM regulators/converters and even Op-Amps work - is pretty rare. My dad was a self-taught machinist and mechanical wizard, but electronic circuits was pretty much like a foreign language to him. He didn't really need to know much in that area though, most of his projects were restoring antique motorcycles... and building/rebuilding WWII airplanes... usually with FAR bigger engines than they originally had.

He was an engineer, and lived his life in those projects and details, entirely in disdain for the lazy, anti-maintenance, “why would you possibly build it this way?!” way of everything these days. SullAir was founded in Michigan City, IN, by an ex-employee of a company I worked for briefly, Joy Manufacturing, also in MCI. One of my tasks was to help a screw compressor engineer at Joy who was using computing to design his devices, and who was convinced that the SullAir guy had made off with his earlier designs. I don't know how these discussions came out, since I went back to school, but it is interesting to see that SullAir has managed to continue its existence for many decades since.

a sullair dealer can give you the info on it if you give the serial number. they never have them on the nameplate. sullair is secretive. even the dealers don't get a breakdown of the air end for rebuild purposes. they want you to exchange it for one from the factory. and they won't sell you a new air end without the old one.

I love to watch people like John Sr. read schematics. When I read schematics I'm wandering around like a blind man trying to just get a grip on what each component is, let alone does. When he reads the schematic he's doing the thinking first and talking about what the motor needs and what is supplied, and then hunts for it on the schematic. It's a real skill that I'm guessing takes time to develop, because I don't have it yet.
