This is where critics missed Zack's interpretation. He wasn't glorifying the story, where Moore's was a commentary on the Comic book Industry on how silly superheroes can be in real life, Zack uses this adaptation as commentary to the whole superhero movie industry. Zack used his background of hyper film making as a spectacle to the whole concept of superhero movies. He took the idea of realism of costume vigilantism, CIA operatives and soap opera drama to the extreme which Hollywood tends to do in these types of films. Similar to how action movies are make-believe and not very realistic at the slightest. Grandiose imagery and ridiculous fighting scenes. The book renders these heroes just beating on thugs knocking them out, Zack has the thugs either being maimed or bones broken. When they fight, brick walls crumble by their bare hands even though they're just regular humans. Rorschach leaving a man to burn to death, Zack instead has Rorschach so emotionally damaged that he cleavers the man. Even Rorschach's voice was an extreme that the book makes subtle. The climax was purposely changed because the Studio didn't want to show such a horrific scene post 9/11 so what does Zack do? Makes the climax so silly it doesn't even make any sense. Why? Because these are the things that what makes Hollywood Superhero movies so ridiculous. These movies are so larger than life that the irony of the source material pales in comparison. Zack is literally mocking what Hollywood glorifies and it went over critic's heads.

Zack Snyder was never good. He has never made a good movie and he never will. He will always be nothing but a talentless hack.

I really am glad you enjoyed this version of the story. Makes me feel more confident about getting it and watching it, myself. I personally really enjoyed Zack Snyder's adaptation. I still need to fully read the comic. Your take is interesting, because I have been listening to several other reviews, and this version seems to be really divisive, just like Snyder's movie. Several people have said they think Snyder's version is better and this animated adaptation is nothing more than an unnecessary cash grab.

I hated Snyder's version since it was too flashy and overly graphic which distracted from the story and themes. I liked this show.
