The first 30 minutes of Full Metal Jacket was comedy gold. RIP to R. Lee Ermy who masterfully played Gunnery Sgt Hartman in that film. Although that was as serious a movie as it gets without it I think the psychiatric stability of recruits in the Armed Forces would have gone ignored. Especially in standard military training upon being recruited. Looking back at the Vietnam War specifically or times of War in general the way that recruits were treated probably wasnt far off from how hard Private Pile was treated. Got to keep a look out for legit trauma in recruits. Everybody has a breaking point.
@spike30826 ай бұрын
R Lee Ermey was an actual Drill Instructor in the Marine Corps in the time frame depicted in the movie and went through recruit training before the Vietnam War and has stated in interviews that his portrayal of Gunnery Sargeant Hartman was basically playing himself when he was a Drill Instructor "there really was no acting involved I was just being myself"
@bryanmahoney34346 ай бұрын
@@spike3082 I am aware of those facts for sure. But the point being is that psychiatric and emotional stability probably wasnt looked at that intently among recruits. Obviously I think examples like Private Pile are in the lower percentile of cases in basic training however I do think that emotional and psychiatric instability absolutely exists among recruits in basic training. The trauma that it all led to for that character it makes it even more challenging I am sure for Drill Instructors in the Military. Having the ability to identify on a case by case basis where someone is emotionally because being driven that hard was not meant for human beings to take for extended periods of time. That is why the slogan for the Marine Corp is The Few and the Proud. The most intense military training in the world. You almost have to be emotionless to be able to take it.

@spike30824 ай бұрын
When I went through Army basic training in 2001 the weapons were always locked in the Supply section and could only be signed out for training at the range and the Supply personnel would draw the ammunition from the Ammunition Supply Point then distribute as needed for training the only time we had our weapon was when we were in the field during the final training exercise even then we didn't get ammo until needed for either a live fire with live ammo or practice with blanks

Someone please help me, if you know the movie i'm talking about... I watched it a long time ago, didn't pay atention to all of it and certainly can't remember the title, but there was this one scene that made me spill my drink : a bunch of tough school bullies sorround this smaller guy. The leader bully steps closer for a menacing nose-to-nose staredown and says "you're nothing but shit, boy! Do you have any idea what we do to shit, here?"... The dude closes his eyes in disgust and replies "geez, judging by your breath i'd say you eat it..." Lol.

Needs more animated moments. Ice Age: “You’re an embarrassment to nature. Do you know that?” The Lion King: “I’m surrounded by idiots” Shrek: “That’s not very nice. It’s just a donkey.” Monsters Inc: “Where is it you little one-eyed creatin?” “Ok, first of all, it’s cretin. If you’re gonna threaten me, do it properly.” The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: “Bald! Bald! Bald! Bald! Bald! Bald! My Eyes!”

If you want an old old movie (it was already a really old movie when I saw it on TV) in the mix, a 1947 film noir movie "Kiss of Death" has a classic insult by actor Richard Widmark's character who spit out "I wouldn't give you the skin off a grape." My older sister and I thought that was pretty harsh and quite funny... I was probably ten years old... So I tried to say the line how he said it and my sister laughed so hard. For a week or so after, my sister would randomly ask me to say the line and we'd laugh all over again... I mean, nobody skins grapes, right? And what a paltry thing to deny someone. And he said it with such venom. I'm gonna have to rewatch that movie just to see that line.
