Yeah, I might have ordered them slightly different, but I think you mostly list the right people. If you're going to list Jesus (which I will accept) then you should also mention Mohammed. Classical Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, are all based on the same Old Testament. They are 3 different flavours of what is essentially (at its beginnings) the same religion. Yeah, I know, those 3 religions don't get along today, but they all come from the same starting beliefs. Allah, Yehweh, and God the Father, they're all the same animal.

@@kurthill9070 ~ LOL. Kurt, it doesn't always go over very well. Some people, even ones who are believers, see it and accept it. Some get cranky and want to punch me. I am a cynical agnostic. I think if anybody is right, it's most likely the Atheists, but I don't know they're right any more than I know the Pope's unlisted private number. There are a few things I would accept as evidence, circumstantial, but there's nothing that comes close to 'Proof'. I would hope, if there is a 'supreme being' of some sort, it's nothing like the animal described in the bible. I'm not about to go back down that rabbit hole. I can see a logical case for a soul, which may live on after the body dies. It may not happen for everyone, but I can see a case it does happen sometimes. I can see a case one of those souls went off exploring, and had a look in a black hole, and found their way through the worm-hole, came out in a new universe. That new universe didn't just wink out again like a virtual particle, because the Observer was there to watch the fireworks display. My observer didn't create the universe, and has almost no 'power' over it. Anything she can't get her head around, it may not be able to exist. That's not the same as parting the Red Sea or killing a generation of little boys in Egypt. [aside] If you have got the power to part the Red Sea, then why didn't you teleport the Juice to their promised land, and stop the Egyptians from chasing them? Why was it necessary to kill thousands of little Egyptian boys? [end aside] Not saying I believe this ~ I'm saying it's something I could believe, with a bit of evidence. No, the King James is not evidence. It's junk mail. It's a sales brochure for a new Cadillac. It's a reason for Jim Jones to mix up some Kool-Aid.

@@Kneedragon1962lol glad we have an understanding. what I appreciate about atheism is at least one hypothetical imposition: if someone is in need of help, and there is no deity, what will you do? some folks believe that they need a deity to know morality, and it shows. atheists are world accepting and have contributed many good things to the world.
@Kneedragon19624 ай бұрын
@@kurthill9070 ~ Morning. Still sorting through this one. Some folks do feel the need to invoke a deity when the subject of morality comes up. [sigh] Yeah, some do. Some can't accept there's any reason for existence at all without a deity. I don't know if there is a deity or not. I can see one argument which is quazi-scientific, which demands the attention and comprehension (at least partly) of some kind of sentient being, for 'reality' to even exist. I'm not sure that's right, but I'm not sure it's wrong either. But the concept that morality can't exist without religion, that's just dumb. Do they say we have no conscience or sense of right and wrong without God and Koom-bah-Ya? Have Atheists contributed? Well, I do love listening to Richard Dawkins. I don't always agree completely with him, but I do enjoy listening. Rather the same as I don't always agree completely with Bernie Sanders or Robert Reich ~ but I do enjoy listening to them. I'm trying for a TLDR way to say this. There is a central question to reality and life and character and personality, which everybody has to answer constantly, and that's the balance between selfish and generous, between self interest and the good of the group. The ideal, is a reasonable compromise. [aside: I do take a very similar view of political balance ~ Left Wing v Right Wing. My personal sympathy is slightly left of centre, but the 'Right' answer is the one that works with 'this' group of people. The ideal is some fairly moderate centre position that all sane people can occupy and live in.] Somebody who is too selfish and too self centred, is not good, but somebody who is too generous and too giving, they get presented as some kind of shining example, but in real life, such people are weirdos. Now we present those people as a shining example, but they're odd. Mother Terrisa is one example. Leonard Cheshire is another. Point is, all morality is a bit like this. We want to encourage people to behave in ways that are good for the group, the society, the race, the species. We bring up our children, teach them about decency and honour. We house-train our pets, so they don't dump in the hallway. The pets know all too well about being naughty or being nice. You don't have to sit on Santa's knee to know about it, and you don't need to Know Jesus to know about it. It's conditioning, and we have these moral concepts that tie it all together in almost sensible & logical ways. None of that requires fairies at the bottom of the garden or grand holy spooks in the sky. It doesn't mean there aren't any ~ it means they're optional.

Wow….I can’t believe Henry Ford actually said those things about women.
@Didi-v2v4 ай бұрын
Really? I am not surprised, since female workers for Ford were treated differently for further decades. There is even a movie about it... It's a british movie called "Made in Dagenham". In 1968, the Ford auto factory in Dagenham was one of the largest single private employers in the United Kingdom. In addition to the thousands of male employees, there are also 187 underpaid women machinists who primarily assemble the car seat upholstery in poor working conditions. Dissatisfied, the women, represented by the shop steward and Rita O'Grady, work with union rep Albert Passingham for a better deal. However, Rita learns that there is a larger issue in this dispute considering that women are paid an appalling fraction of the men's wages for the same work across the board on the sole basis of their sex. Refusing to tolerate this inequality any longer, O'Grady leads a strike by her fellow machinists for equal pay for equal work. What follows would test the patience of all involved in a grinding labour and political struggle that ultimately would advance the cause of women's rights around the world.

They point out the fact that Karl Marx's ideology inspired totalitarianism, and yet all the countries they mentioned were deliberately influenced by US military forces, dooming them to fail as a socialist state and in some cases becoming so anti-capitalist that they indeed became the worst places to live. I do not defend any deeds that those men did. But I find it important to look at the other side of things and see how the US plays a big part in most of the current world's problems nowadays.

Antisamitism was normal at this point of time untill we germans sadly showed the world how we dealt with it. If we wouldnt have done oure holocaust (of wich Im NOT proud of, I might ad) the jews would propably never ve gotten their own state and we would still hate the jews as we did before in all oft the wesetern (and the muslimic) cultures. Many, many years ago I saw an interview with that woman. She stated that she happy that the sick and destitute people of Kolkata, Calcutta then, could die in the arms of jesus. Of course she was talking about life long Hindus and Muslims. I was disgusted.

I don’t care about the first 19. Number one is undoubtedly Jesus Christ. No one has been more controversial, impactful and kind in all our history and writings Edit- glory to Christ the lamb that was sacrificed for the sins of the world.

@@Nola5427 I ask that you just do a quick google search of the historical evidence that he lived and died the way it’s recorded in the Bible. There’s more evidence of Christ than other historical figures like Caesar and Alexander the Great. Many have tried to prove he never existed or that his disciples lied. But they either failed and agreed he did exist or some actually came to the .faith of his resurrection

One of the main reasons for all this controversy is that we grow up with, and have trouble letting go of, the naive belief, nurtured by Disney films and such, that great leaders must always be idealistic and "nice." But it is not so. There never was a famous figure in history who did not cause harm or inconvenience of some sort, or who was not ruthless in exercising power when it was necessary to do so. Or, as Lenin himself supposedly (but probably did not actually) put it: "You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs."

I kind of feel the "Expensive gear, but can't play" sentiment. One of my bands played a local gig at a major venue in our area. The opening band looked impressive considering they had premium gear such as an EBMM JP15 guitar, one of the high-end Warwick 5 string basses, what looked to be a mapex Saturn drum kit, Axe FX II Deluxe going DI, and Gallien-Krueger bass amp... The band just played generic breakdowns the entire set and was super sloppy when they weren't playing open chord chugged riffs. Turns out they were a bunch of Weekend Warrior tweens who came from money. More than likely didn't work hard to get their gear, decided that if Asking Alexandria could do it then so could they, and it was the last I'd heard of them as a band. I hope they stuck with playing music and progressed, but man that rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

Toronto did a pretty good job with the Panamerican games, which is significantly smaller. But they were under budget and had a significant legacy. I live in a city 4 hours away and we got a grant to start a wheelchair basketball program, because of the games. It costs $2-3,000 for a basic chair. A bunch of infrastructure projects were already needed, and in the works, and the games just supercharged the timeline. They utilized the Jays stadium for opening and closing and held track at a local university. They brought in temporary stands to extend capacity. The long term low income housing was a HUGE hit. Part of the athlete housing became part of a local college, another part a university, another part lower income (assisted) housing (IE national team athletes training at nearby facilities can access that housing for cheap, if they continue to meet training targets). Listen, it wasn’t perfect. But it was an example of how games can be done. With one being multiple athlete housing areas to spread out the sports to areas that were appropriate to host.
